Sabres head coach Lindy -- joining us here on WG on the play New Jersey tomorrow night and -- Lindy with -- right now good morning -- how -- I'm good thanks ever come and -- let us appreciate it. I'm gonna have I'm gonna try and ask you about Tyler -- and see how many questions right get the -- looking for you ready to play along. I -- we -- I'm not asking about starting goalie right I mean this is right so. So is that. It. Yeah we try and freshen things up really need just to keep you entertained here but so is Tyler Myers staying this season with the sabres.
But but. -- that there would be my first question. You know looks. Still in the process of we're gonna take a period. Before -- let me. On the city -- but very well force.
If Tyler buyers -- and Palin I am not sure to do about Halloween Saturday when I'd be in town are not what would you --
It says that they are you gonna play a New Jersey.
All right now we talk for that I thought hypothetically how bad would have to be in New Jersey like we're talking minus ten. I mean.
Well we haven't he doesn't just seeing the devil -- so little item one the mourners.
Hi this is art right now -- roll the sleeves here okay so Tyler comes to you and says -- get lots of fan mail. Should I have that keep coming to the arena or don't need to have afforded to Cologne.
I would I would tell him to wait a couple days before it said that there has not. Lived and which are starting goalie tomorrow night. Ryan Miller okay now -- gonna quit right there I had ads often lead to far behind it should give right there sick.
Okay now all kidding aside I mean. Odyssey Tyler Marshall played very well and and you've heard about a lot from the media why why wouldn't you guys to say. You know what we're really impressed with -- and yes -- did you know. Since it pretty easy decision he's in this.
Well at first and foremost we were committed to the process of making sure that. It -- it took at last farmers who could evaluate and he has played very well. -- right down to media and to the nitty gritty of I I don't think. When you look at the situation noted it's a bad thing for him it's the motivation saying it. You know their desire to stay. Obviously it is is is great and and we wanted to know what.
But he do you almost wish the you have this opportunity with other players along the way and at and I mean and seriously that. You do have a very very big motivating factor for such a young guy.
I think there's -- motivation and Arab and and I just didn't I think they have little in this case. You know we know we thought we had you know good young defensemen and we didn't know Hollywood handle. A lot of the situations obviously settled. Some situations real well. We really haven't got into the meat of the schedule. We wanted to see him and in fact the backdating them and look at -- those situations. Do you wish you had a shorter leash on some players I think they're shorter leash motivate player -- long term. Contracts and sometimes be a bit -- When you know they've got a decision that has been made within ten games -- it should motivate poor.
Now admires him particularly neighboring an interesting point I mean I hadn't really thought about a -- them point. If you guys decide that yes he's going to stay he's not gonna go back to juniors do you worry about him do in the hall.
I think there hasn't a little bit error on the shoulder. Do we know we don't we don't know that answer. And lots of crossed that bridge when it comes but. From what we've seen so far and it's practiced tablets and worked out but you know he's got a great amounted. Is it -- that loves playing the game I wouldn't think that would give all.
Always stocking up on Hamilton was talking to Hendrick to -- yesterday -- love to get your thoughts on this as well. -- in terms of that working relationship. How much an uneven -- out of it put an exact percentage on it or not but how much is to linger helping Myers. How much says miers and help -- to linger.
I really think that. It is a very good for both of what. I think when. Tyler can play with a guy that has as good as mobility is is convert. Does. That -- really set up each other. I like right now what there would the fact that we have you know left and right handed defensemen because when when you hinge. But when you move the talk to each other. Very you're options when Floyd uses cross site seeing that you need your option. When that ego needed be when the other team has brought pressure pressure -- a lock me -- themselves. If he's your past pick there off the wall you know can look at -- the -- that never made Florida. Over two. Attire on the bullish for -- You know just that bad chemistry -- the fact that there were there was a lot candidate that's unfortunate off the wall that's a lot easier course.
Did you teach -- the shootout both.
Nobody I've watched it in and practiced in the war gonna get my assistant coaches that -- they're the ones that said. So let's go with Tyler and we discussed -- for a brief second and I and and I made the call but I'm gonna have to give media it's -- go to the credit but I want.
When you know we have other players that talk about the legend of Bob Myers continues -- gonna talk to -- yesterday about practice yesterday want to get your side of of the story how practice and was at the end of practice where you had a full ice look a little like the I shot. -- shooter from his own goal line and even makes it in the net and practice is over if he misses everyone has to skate they won't know what the terms and now what happened.
Other terms word it exactly as you stated -- he missed the empty net. What we have to do. Sure it probable that lecture format itself. Approximately ten days ago we had parachute in and missed the net so. The players. All had the -- We have escape planned for yesterday in an open question -- well I really think we should give Trotter a second chance. And we throw some parks in the way of pickets saying that -- should -- you know between the other hand them. So he made it in the the state was often. Listen a little song. And only one other players are have a lot of flooding. It. You know put the smallest -- is safe when -- when UCL harder work -- yesterday's practice and and what we got out of it then and it's in -- the players have a lot of fun whether.
Have -- up Paul said that it was a giant celebration on the ice is the team -- the -- and they saying the ole LA sung many said. It was it was nice to see you and I think it's what we've talked about throughout the entire season you know Paul told us the kinder gentler Lindy -- for whatever was that he said. When -- when when the teams winning it's probably much easier treated for you to be that way right.
Well that's. They have what's called talking about -- treating him.
A veteran and he's a good mood -- cell.
Five I bring here is food on the play in the in the you know make sure you have the pillow and I'll. That's -- service. I think that's what he's referring to kinder gentler.
Okay but haven't announced not to read too much into that yesterday because I know one of the things you do have to do is you know you have to make sure guys are having fun it can't be drudgery all the time. But when is I mean how much do you put into the whole idea of the bonding in the togetherness and you know maybe guys just enjoying. Being a part of the team in the whole camaraderie thing it. If we get too carried away with -- but when Paula tell me that story yesterday and he's done about you smiling. Stay stand back away as the guys are celebrating and I thought is this part of the whole trying get a team closer together together this type of thing.
Earlier. I bought into that I think that. You're here on the bench. You know -- and -- may -- goes on the ice and and scored the big goal forests. No idea what they're the Kennedy -- forward or Greer played Tampa Bay. You hear the voices on the bench and and obviously when things are going well. It's. The other players -- violent and there are a lot more upbeat than. And when you're winning you can you can build a real good atmosphere and and I think if we can just keep keep our feet on the ground not get too excited. But put the work and that. We have in these first eight games. Even at work we've put in yesterday's practice just sit practice was it was a very demanding practice and you know where -- you have a -- one right after a day off. And I of this counter another the players put everything they had into it and I think that I can only make it better.
But -- this year -- W just they -- the -- tomorrow -- wanted to talk -- about your -- about Ryan Miller. No one -- I think was the Red -- game was the one on versus the guys were talking a lot about their conversations with Miller. And how he had talked about. You wanted to become an elite level goaltender. Can you just talk obvious these numbers are tremendous he's picking up where he left off last season which was a solid season. You know he blanked Tampa the other night it in the shoot out just talk a little bit about how he has matured over time and and what kind of drive. And work ethic do you see from him because serious talking about wanted to be elite goalie when he had been a very good numbers last season in a non playoff --
Prefer flawed and that of a lot of other personality. You know you can have good numbers you want they have great numbers and -- and he can be a good goaltender in the bigger or he could choose to be a great goaltender. You know conversations we had in the last season you know he wanted to be he wanted to improve his numbers she wanted. He wanted to know exactly where he debate biggest improvement. And in what was hurting the -- in the most in the game and I think she approached. The off season with the where where he. Desired. Become better in some areas. And -- chase he'll lead goaltenders in the in the -- and the elite goaltenders in the past that I think. That's the makeup of Ryan Miller who is intense the year peace studies the game. Not a player from the first -- stepped on the -- sort of down in Rochester where. In a word game -- that -- at that -- there as a young goaltender and work that now it's a maturing process the process of but not overplaying situations it's a process of of remaining calm even in the air. Toughest situations. They start and you know I think he's reached maturity level where. You really feel that it can be somewhat of the best goaltenders. In the fleet.
When he -- you about you know where -- where -- where could he improve the most what did you tell.
But look at some players have talked about some of that what we're reading the game was not overplaying some situations. You know -- It's almost that term we use. With the goaltender is just trying to read the play but not don't commit to the sugar. -- settlement because sometimes there are situations where. Even through traffic he committed there would be a backdoor play worry what enabled her to make the save wasn't their for the says. I think we've seen lots of situations -- sure work. Orion has has read the plays have been there on a backdoor plays he's been there are cross placing place. And hasn't committed they got it almost looks like he's gonna shoot and all the big shot and killed across and you know those areas that have been approved I think gives what we saw in the shootout. Again. Is its focus and -- intensity that I think -- is focused on becoming better.
But your -- the here on WGR for the GO Lindy a couple of non hockey things into briefly. I'm I don't know if you're at Monday night raw the wrestling event at HSB serial -- that I'm guessing now. That we -- talking about all three of us at some point growing up were into professional wrestling now again you grew up in western Canada I have no idea even. Got professional wrestling out -- pride and a television. On did did you follow wrestling at all growing up.

thanks odds are met here thank you got me get do you remember any of the wrestler Steve memory of the guys are resting at Simon year old watch and.

Right now a Hager -- like that one had a -- a good way to get the hacks are dug in -- Jim nice it's just organized it's just it goes to the it goes to the start of all of us at one point you know whether you knew it was entertainment are you really got into it everybody followed roughly at some point.

Favorite cautioned. You know I'm gonna hit the -- that if there's no I don't even remember what I dressed up you can just just as it and his -- hockey player did you. I know I didn't go the occupier.
