Mike talks about Andre Reed and buyer's remorse

    jake scott found at 12:28

discovered pretty early on in the process of collecting MVPs. Is that Jake Scott . Who was the MVP of Super Bowl 74. Miami he is not an especially. -- difficult signature. I was told the beginning that he was he didn't do very many shows but guess there's there's. And a thought that he isn't as much around the Miami reunions in the does 72 Dalton. Type stuff that -- out there that he may be more difficult on that front but it seems to -- Jake Scott . Does plenty of shows. And that's all you need for -- these retired guys. Is for them to do card shows and then. Their autographs obviously with that are out there another possible misconception. Is that the old guys are tougher. I was asked recently about my collection and and I was asked will you seem to have all the old guys but not so much newer guys and that's that's exactly right. The newer guys who were still playing the Manning's Brady Aaron Rodgers . These guys don't to as many shows. And if if they do wedding. And done with that their autographs or tougher usually

Hi everybody good morning it is Saturday January 14 I'm Mike show this is the hobby on WGR. I'm glad to have some baseball news two to play away. Here don't mean this this hour a insure anybody. Here up top knows. This exists so I'm pretty sure I could contrive a baseball topic by cared to and I might have when it gets cold. And across past you know the beloved bowl season. I get I get ready I'm ready for baseball February 19 for pitchers and catchers met you collar the producer of the show lined up. A professional baseball pitcher for today's show and a car collector a guy Matt knows about through a mutual friend. His name is Ryan to going pitches for Syracuse in the Washington organization. And the way I'm told is what I'm told is that he is a collector and also is someone that. Likes to try to get other people into it and that's all I that was one of the reasons for doing this a few years ago was to hopefully. And convince people that I know and mostly people but I don't just happen to be the station that collecting is still very much alive and and well. It's different than it used to be and I've. You know I think I've illustrated that almost every week through a phone call or some other thing. That I've been here since I labor day of 2008. Was our first our first show of the hobby but one thing I saw this week that was really exciting and also baffling to me. And I I'd encourage anybody who. Is in the collecting all the I don't most of our callers are are not people who. Are avid collectors now it's it may be half as around with that but people who collected along time ago wanna know what to do with things either way I would love to talk to. From people might it might have noticed this and have an opinion about it I'd be very curious to hear what you have to say. If if you track sales of cards. And you happen to track sales of the Michael Jordan. 1986. We your rookie one of the biggest cards. Of last. I don't know forty years mean certainly one of the biggest if not the biggest of the 1980s Jordan rookie. In a grade of PSA eight which common sense scale of one to 108 close to but not quite That card has sold for around 600 dollars. And I I looked up sales of this card that sold on eBay and auctions. And I happen to actually I bought two but I didn't mean to buy two which is. Happened and I sold one quickly away so say I've bought one of these cards either way it was around 600 dollars that I spent. And is something that I had thought about buying for a long time and I've I've had just sold some things I had the money needed to play with. And I bought the Jordan Carter and felt good about it all the other people like I've talked to the collect like the idea that card and why why wouldn't you. As an investment I mean it's an iconic. Sports card from the eighties and what I've noticed in the last. Two or three weeks. Is that sales of that card have shot up. It's all about 45%. In a month. And that's not just because one or two cards sold for 700 or slower 800 dollars but about a dozen of them. Mostly if not all of them on eBay. And that is a big jump for a card that I don't know it's a big card but why would that happen now. Any ideas I I don't really know are are the Charlotte Bobcats good or something. I'm kidding me that doesn't even matter. Com. What are these PSA eight Jordan sold for 999 dollars that's about a 625 dollar card that shot up like that. In in like no time at all. So. I I see something like this aren't eager to mention it because. The hobby. It's kinda like I don't need this it's like buffalo though and certain ways you know it it's a lot of a lot of a lot about the past. And how it used to be and with with collecting. As. Sure a lot of you know. Up until the mid eighties. Well in the mid eighties in the late eighties mass production started. And everybody got wind of the the notion that you could get rich through baseball cards and in turn started buying them. So pretty much by 19911992. Everybody had everything. And what happens in you know what happens in the economy to it is something. Like that it just the the bottom falls out and that's what we know that's what explains. A very simple level why. Cards from those years are all but worthless not all of the Marta got an example for you today as well. Of what kinds of cards aren't which I think might Tom be useful to many of but. We know that late eighties or early ninety's you know you've got almost nothing there. But prior to that there's still a lot of lot of money and a lot certainly. And a lot of fun to have and I think this card which is not an old card for this 1986. For a jump like that that I myself really can't explain. I'd love to tell you about it because what it what it. Also says among other things may be about Jordan or whatever. That collecting is still alive and well. And and people are throwing money like that at at at a card like this. And what what I also has happened from from this surge in the sales of Mac card is that now. You see people who do pay close attention to what things are selling for. You know dealers probably that have this card immediately go listing them on eBay for 800. Or 850 or 900 dollars because they've noticed that discard a shot up and I think that obviously they think that you'll you'll jump on that but you never knew your smarter than that. And I would think come they'll just end up sitting these cars sitting on eBay like a lot of stuff does. Without without being sold. 8030550. Is the phone number if you have a comment on that everything else related to collecting the Michael Jordan rookie has taken a big jump. A friend of mine told me that the Gretzky rookie also has I haven't noticed that and I didn't see that. And on a website that I used it to track prices I didn't see a jump in the in the Gretzky but maybe it happened a little bit earlier. Maybe you've noticed that yourself the Gretzky rookie is is a hole in my collection for sure I've never had a really nice one. Tops peachy peachy is a much bigger card than the tops card if ever. You become upon somebody who's got both. Audio PG cart is is much more words that. Lines are open for if you wanna chat I have a guest as mentioned coming up in the middle to show for a natural mention the time but. That the pitcher right to telescope beyond in the in the second segment today at around 83825. Every thirty. I I alluded to. A card from the dark days of collecting the the early ninety's that Tom has some value in this might be interesting to you. Because many many people. You have have these collections these big amounts of cards from those years and they always wanna know what to do with them. And I give them the quick bad news which is. It is very little value in it and you you probably. And you probably could do well to donate them or give them to have a youngster who might like that really not a lot of money to be made. One. Exception to that is if you have a rookie card of hall of Famer that's perfect. Bad grammar all famers and perfect the hardest. If if you have a perfect. Example. Of hall of Famer 1989199091. You know those years. You still have you have a little bit of money there now here's the trick though. To to considerate perfect. You probably need the degrade on it which means sending in a card that otherwise. You know might be worth fifty cents if that. You know spending five to ten dollars on getting a grade for that and then hoping that you get a ten. And you end up turning that into I don't know thirty boxer so the example and thinking of which I should have told you first. Is a pro set football card of John It might be 1990 I don't even know which right around there. And this John rainbow card was selling on eBay. The auction was over and I sought for 47 dollars in PSA ten. Now those pros sent cards are everywhere. But the the tough part with a great in mind is that the corners are colored. They're not port in the corners I'm sorry the borders the edges. They're not white. Bordered cards and white border cards are going to be in better condition generally. Then ones with you know that are different colors because the the caller can chip. So you have orange and purple on these different colors of those pro stick cars getting a PSA ten is no sure thing. Because of this this chipping the can happen and of course always other factors like corners and and so on so this John card was selling pretty well now what do you do if you've got a lot of these cards from those years I don't know maybe you seldom. To somebody who wants to take that chance for you and you know the they get the rewards in that case. But. That I just wanted to pass along that there is the potential. That certain cards from those years. Will do well and you know there are going to be hall of famers in in those years Brett Favre is from. From those years and I think maybe what does it action packed or some. That's and sharp what's the Favre. Rookie and who my asking what they're they're all kinds of different variations in my mind disputes modeled by all of them but you've got. And that and Randall McDaniel is another one. Marshall fall. It is another one of these guys are all from those years in the role in the football in their baseball guys to. And you know if you find those cards in great. Perfect condition than you might have something otherwise you know you you still don't unfortunately. Paul has called an and is on WGR Paul. I don't today. Yeah I got a brother mine east large collector I kinda got into it over the last few years what have. Happen here it always is my brother goal and searching grabbed and dub I think. Keep it not a ball thirty Michael Jordan. You know rookie. Cards and like that industry artificially inflate to. Also guided sit not a bunch of bombs those other people that are not a bunch of them keep Michael by its lack three like you said 950. Dollars. It artificially inflate itself. The next thing you know the industry standard that night. So it's really just a few people manipulating at all. Not being in the stock market interest and yeah I guess that makes sense. I hadn't thought that there were people with them much to be able to do that but if it's if it's ten or twelve Jordan's these are all being traded among the same people you're suggesting. Or like it'll play a vibrant I've 1516. And I got a chance that you grabbed three more those. And you know I mean all the nice goal and 3950 am talking to a dealer down in Denver. He should not oblige all the side we've manipulated the market. The sixteen that I had a fifteen and I had previous combined might lack streak at an artificially inflated inflated price. I'm get you know I'm getting the goods on fifteen an ready. makes cents or races in your brother has about thirty of them. Dirty regret that bad. Yet. The thing right and don't do I don't put the Wayne Gretzky rookie card to might spoke to when I was when abdicated on my fight I wish I didn't. Yeah I guess. Yeah I think the thing about that Jordan sat Paul is that it's those that your recent set. There's plenty of it out there but you know a lot of people didn't take basketball cards seriously at the time they did the or years were they weren't made. And so I think I think with that that the leaders that a lot of it's hidden in a few people's hands. Fluid you know that may actually think it occurred. Just just one more point this is gonna sound really trade your listeners but my Brothers already starting to grab cricket cards. From Pakistan and you see emerging populations come and into North America. From Pakistan from India. You watch it's gonna sound absurd but in one year cricket cards will be huge big and I like it you have you know thinking thinking about that the distribution among the population ethnically. did are you to thank you Paul. Soccer cricket. Well that is that's a long term vision right there I I think the Jordan point he makes you might be right. Don't just assume it's right it's not my nature to do that but I think makes sense. And I have not figured out any other better explanation for there there are there are enough people who have. Enough of those cards. That can the and they can make that kind of difference. In the prices. Interest in our 8030550. Is the number that's. To some places up for the time being is an explanation for that. Last night after the hockey game. I was just flipping around figure to be awake for another little while so I as I often do I go right to MLB network what are they doing. And at 10 o'clock last night for another half an hour was one of there twenty greatest games shows Bob Costas to number Gucci they're on them. And it was about the Kirk Gibson game. Dodgers and days and Gibson was the only guest player who was on and he was you know just. He was somewhere else like maybe with Diamondbacks or something they were interviewing him electronically. And playing. You know the ninth inning of that game talking to give senate caught a just right just the right time. Talking to him that he was talking about his day you know he woke up that morning in 1988. How we felt bad how bad he felt physically. How sure he was he wouldn't play you know Sat in the clubhouse through that game game one of the 88 World Series Dodgers a news. Listening to Vin Scully and NBC. Repeatedly say how Gibson was on available that night and Gibson. Said Howard started to burn him he is started to get mad listening to that and even though he knew he was in no shape to do it physically. He started to get warm up to the idea. Of of getting in the in the game pinch hitting at some point. So he was talking about that and Gibson I was never as a kid a Gibson fan but. Men now listening to him talk and him and tell that that story that day. He could not agree with what I like about sports any more than he does it was it was great. Watching him relive that day and he said something that. After I thought about it I I decided it was my favorite tree in an athlete. They're showing. Gibson home to bat. For that in 1988 and he's talking about. The experience. And he says that you know a lot of people ask me if I was nervous or just what I was feeling at this moment walking up to the plate. That night and and Gibson went on to say I was nervous I was so excited there's just nothing better. Then being in this this spot it's what you live for. We also thinking like what what does the guy say who did feel that way but struck out. In in that kind of a situation and how it later in life he comes to think about the the pressure of all that I wonder if it would be different but I. I shouldn't even said that that's not that's not my point the focus is on. What Gibson set about pressure he just said there's no there's no being nervous. This is what this is why you do it. There's this clip I think about NFL films from a long time ago ourselves and this is why we run all those laps. And I just I just loved it I think one thing about athletes that just is so. Awesome. Is how they in pressure like that respond to when they respond to a well and I think. For me and all I AM and I think a lot of fans are the same way this is something that sets them apart from us because. Most of us would get really nervous and not be able to function as highly as we need to. But athletes who don't and look at it that way I think that's beautiful I think that the it's it's one of the few common traits maybe not it's a common trait that the greats have. Is that they they love the pressure I think they really do I don't think it's phony I think you know they they have a it on attitude about it and Gibson. Came across that way to me and I just I just loved him for it. I decided that's my single favorite tree in an athlete is to hear that that kind of things said. And by the way his on his since this is his rookie cars are super cheap not a hall of Famer Bob what a great place in baseball history he has. 1981. Tops with a little hats. There's a Gibson cards get a jacket on the tigers and super cheap caution offering. All right. Ryan to telescope coming up a pitcher for the Washington Nationals and their organization. Was with Syracuse. Last year AAA card collector will talk to him all talked about a few things. What it's like to be a collector and a ball player at the same time they'll be plenty of time to for calls for your opinions or questions 8030550. Is the number I might show opened this is hobby on WGR. OK here is Ryan to telescope the morning Ryan nice to talk to you have my name's Mike show. Are good morning drab and you're welcome where were you these days I am. I am on the back end of it doesn't get out our driver and now Miami this in Indiana which arm problem right out side you know. We're just a sightseeing trip I know I'm my girlfriend parents live data is good so I'll while Iowa is kind of shut it down after planting a bomb and We're visiting her apparent now that I'm going to start ramping up my off season training or. During training arm and back to Indianapolis to train now with the pitching coach in America where where. Okay clear in the the nationals organization and just becoming. Familiar with you this week since Matthew got in touch with you about coming on here while Venezuela what was that like. It will a lot of fun you know it really. Prepared me you know middle and I can expect open this year I get a chance in the big you know it. And just. And you know extreme and there are so many people well it can mean weird aren't 2030000. People are you know on some night and cheering him into it there's trillion make between eight European soccer matches that. And a good college football rivalry and that was just. The band Mercury hit band were intent and the coaches the players you know. top notch I was able to play. Look such names you know are pretty good cockroach and brawn no I got. Henry go. And Carlos Gonzales so I mean you know Derek and there are a lot of big games down their Israeli and let. Very nice for you well of course the reason we're in touch with the used to talk about your collecting it says on Twitter for people who want to follow Ryan. Ryan to telescope of course would be that the handle there it says aspiring baseball card. Autograph collector how how did you what what what got you started. Congress started literally my dead you know it it was the thing that kinda bonded him and I totally I totally yeah you know Monty discussion or nearly 2% should say to Becky you know from Earth Day and of course immediately I would bet there are room in you know looked at baseball cards is that gone up and iron got about you know I baseball players and every. Every couple monsters so my dad let me Italian baseball show that would be around the be about it. Our guys I'm you know when I was younger we go to the card does look around we we couldn't afford it. Maybe I would try to bank and you know in and get to guard. Didn't have so I really. Really got into it and. I kind of stopped collecting. All college and. Does this year. Was very. Indeed indeed mean first Bowman cars so I kind of sparked my interest. What did it right away and and Cindy need gated me or how it very fortunate to deal autographs and baseball card though. You have really been able don't want them the cards and get out to my family and strand. Want to know mechanic got me back in the look like there's so to speak in credit running out of these cards like you know and not black Very nice trying to go with me here on the hobby on WGR. So what are some of your your best things are best autographs. On my best autograph. I think they have right now. Is to doubt today. World Series Jersey from the they gallery the Longoria the autocrat that got a World Series patch on it. It's. Authenticated PS DNA in it even got Adam Longoria has hologram on that I was able to work on that. Com through trade and I would give my best baseball card would be. A graded Nolan Ryan rookie card Nolan Ryan probably the one person and I collect. Just as he did. I love watching them play on TV and I was is the one purse I want to emulate whenever on the mound and though he was kind of a one card that I always try to collect it now that I collect it start ramp a little bit ease kind of the one that around. And try to come first a question back up again. That is a great card Ryan as you would know of course. Want out of his era he's to me he's the top guy for collectors mean Ryan. Obviously also had a great career needless to say but there's something extra about him he also pitched for so long so a lot. Lot of kids at different at different times along the way it would have been exposed and you know in a 22 year career something so maybe longer. So I'm really and that's the one painted I'm getting back into collecting been able to talk to some of these side and on super collectors just. Listening to you know their hundred people showed me pictures of their collection just being able. shared make new friends over you know just one player you know in kind of see what they have just talking about getting back in two in the being. Right how how well how good is your rookie card. Integrate. A good grade eight. Right now I'm you know it really good but it is currently the one that or depressed elaborate. We'll check back at an eight Ryan rookies very nice. Okay right to just go with me I'm Mike show opened this is the hobby on WGR. Ryan what kind of interest have you found that there is among baseball players in collecting. You know it kind of hit it in Ahmad. I'm not quite sure I know that. He checked. It probably super collector in the terms of you know the player world I think some people do extra actually with their own cards you know when they get released. You know sometimes the companies will give if you your own but obviously don't you go out autograph and or maybe that are the special hologram or things like that were more on the market as well you know looking because the card companies just don't. Kinda the promotional because that would take away you know from the around so we're on the market look at as well you know especially are aliens and com you know one sound usually. And outlooks or or things like that but. I think in terms just kind of collect and our players are really not quite sure but I know I know he's check is it he had that in the cart like. I've heard that too and also a couple of guys I've had on the show Dmitri Young with a famously great. Hall of fame rookie card collection. Why one of the best in existence Brad Ziegler from the days ago these on the really yeah Ziegler Diamondbacks may be. Arm he he's been on with me he is a big collector. Craig Rabach is another one although I think he might be out of baseball a player. So I'd like to find out about these guys that that are into it and of course you know. The access you have. Is so is so excellent here you are in the Washington organization what better. Organization would there be to be in for four you know if you're a collector right with Strasburg and Bryce Harper. Oh absolutely I mean you know there as soon as their cards are coming out there are being carved out by by people that they got out there. Tomorrow must you know I've played cards so bad and being able to watch them play on the field and also watching the value you know what their cars street. And what are your prospects this year Ryan you said you're open to make the big club. you know obviously that every cut every baseball player stream are much you're in the year and AAA. Eric New York with an affiliate and I'm very fortunate that the national that I did and they'll like that it kind of work on things and situations so. I think in the I'm I'm partly gonna start again as Eric Houston. Oakley at the scene and go to the I want I hope that you know the national TV champ and The nationals look better than ever right. You know what they're they're just getting better you know hopefully that. We can work got to deal copper Prince Fielder at being you know bring in that lineup would be. You know incredible and just bolster really strong. irritation and I think you know with the addition amount GO Gonzales starting look at national. You know there at that rotation going to be deadly you know and that they're able to that big bat that they wanted. and actually going to be a team to be reckoned. And I agree with that Orion maybe if if you're and you're going to be in Syracuse are spending more time there meet we will meet it's about two hours from here. And of course lots of games with buffalo and Rochester that the Syracuse. Plays every hour. And relish that not just about military is trying to plan now. On the I've enjoyed meeting you volley on Twitter hopefully my listeners will too and good luck this year. Appreciate their grammar or you're welcome to Tesco Washington. Nationals and I just abruptly cut them off without meaning to who was looking for the hold button and I hit the seal later but there sorry about that. I should apologize that was abrupt not on the air but you know behind the scenes here. very interesting baseball trade last night. Love it for the Yankees. The Yankees traded. Jesus Montero big catching prospect who did spend some time with them last year and did all right. To the Mariners for Michael Pineda there was more to the deal but neither is just I mean fears this guy right handed pitcher what do great pickup for the Yankees. I I won't I'm not on the inside when it's on the giving anything you can't get anywhere else by a lot of people. Love this trade for the Yankees to needed just huge upside for a four for him. And Montero was you know a good prospect but not like a sure thing in most minds any thoughts on this Matthew. Well the biggest thing is Montero is that he can't catch so he was probably gonna end up being DH. Which the Yankees don't really need one they have a couple players who need that DH spot give Jeter days off giving Iran days off. And they really need to fix up the rotation the sky 67260. Amazing first half. Right second half he fell off a little bit but that happens with some young pitchers when they. Throw Major League sells huge talent. Yeah yeah I think I think overall. You're getting back something better than you giving away there because there's no guarantee if if Montero becomes a catcher. And he can hit thirty home runs that's big value but he's a first baseman DH you can find those all over the place guys thirty home run. Very sneaky good move by Cashman just an NC north saw coming. A great trade for the yanks. All right some final thoughts here including one on some typing on eBay coming up call me feel like 8030550. I'm show and this is the hobby on WGR. Ryan to telescope Washington Nationals organization pitcher against him for being on. Double things I wanna get to in the last few minutes but feel free to erupts and supersede me because I'm always. I always want that eagle 30550. Is the phone number beyond this is the hobby on WGR every Saturday morning from eight to nine. Today run to the NFL playoffs start starts rather. And both teams will be on WB yen as we have the sabres tonight at the islanders pre game it's six. Saints at niners. Near record high temperatures for San Francisco on this possible mid sixties. And there's whether there are also perfect day the game tonight that I had a chance to go to I talked a little bit about it. Broncos patriots of looking at wind chills in the single digits little bit like our weather or a lot like it. Tonight for a new England and then pretty warm tomorrow the Green Bay game decent for the Baltimore game to you know mid thirties but. Nothing wacky that I read would be would be happening there. I got some last night. It's not as jargon that is losing. In in a bidding war on eBay at the last second. I've talked about my. Collecting Super Bowl MVP signed mini helmets and the right Aaron Rodgers helmet. Was sitting their last night in would be expensive. I decided with. Five seconds to go to bid eighty dollars above the leading and I got beat. I got the bid in Bristol got beat snipes are hard to. Hard to deal with. And I guess that means I should. Be one of those guys that you know you you set. A bid to go automatically right before the auction is over those are different programs you can use for that. And I don't know like maybe that's not why I lost like I did the same thing always I was watching the auction. But it's frustrating to lose that way you don't know that people are sitting by their computers bidding at the last second like you are and if you're like me feel like you know. Your superior to those people who just set a program to do their dirty work for them I was didn't like losing that Rogers it was a 200 dollar helmet a big ticket item and it had the inscription on it had the JS a certificate. I'm I'm I'm very particular about these not gonna. You know by any fakes. And I thought I had that I was bummed out here is bill on WG RI bill. out when I was younger I used you know collect cards and collect them you know every year or not put him in a shoe box and I'd like I have before choice. You know my house my little brother would always get and myself. But over the course of the years you know you're not collect them and put them up there and and I got older you know you did you really care about collecting cards anymore and I just you know let them up there and course and I want it to the army and went stationed in Korea you know about how truthful because. Home. And and just being given thought it really didn't care so that it at all anymore sibling you know. Get my card and probably up hit fairly well before choice in the attic. Yeah I was just wondering that they'd be where They sure. I'm in Korea we're talking you know these these are about a half century old these cards. There probably aren't they are very collect probably what they when we could walk up to the store and you know they won't like a nickel package and like so that checklist that check everything off tonight rubber band of not put them in. You know like old shoe boxes vitamin a poor choice so that my brother couldn't find them like a just forgot probably 62 through. Probably 68. On yeah that's that's a can be big money. if there in rubber bands. They know there are probably there's probably some damage. Older definitely damage confirming we we're always going to rule on trade numbers hold my friend because we are welcome we all had our favorite teams. let me say that and the derby there probably be some money and it if there's big money. The condition would be that the the key factor there. Like all they're not in good condition they wouldn't be worked very much them. It would be worth less but just how much less really it's it's just totally about what kind of shape the rim and yeah it's proportional so what are we get into this house. I don't know but the the request of the kind of wait for it to go up for sale but you know. For the flip rhetoric around the corner from it you might still visit it'll be old neighbors. From time to time and early mentioned that anybody else. This of this of this is puzzle a puzzle are here and whether another and it's it's it's it's definitely not your property anymore. Exactly know that the legally they're not the president not mine because you know obviously they. They're part of politics though. But if you knew with the people who live there. And you said to them look I I think there's something valuable in there that I I know where it is and you don't let's make a deal. Think about it that. What do you think about that. While maybe I'll just try that. I'll tell you all all all tell you where this is and show you how to get that it and will split the it will split the cause or the profits 5050. Maybe some like work let's interstate and let me know this plays out bill okay. All right thank you. Thought that's out what do think about that meant you better approach. I don't think he's in back. Known. I think it would be really weird if someone came to me and said hey there's Mike crap in your house from a 4050 years ago and I. Paul your floorboards and I dig in there and you know but it's just it's an alluring prospect these things sitting in there and wondering if they're still there and how much they might be worth super cool. That guy wants to write me so I can follow along in the store be thinking about them like what exact what I wanna do in that situation what would you what would you do it's a good one. Well I mean if the cut was picking up the potential cut then maybe it eleventh there the if it's my house and someone says that's a whole other matter. Minutes are what are you gonna pay for the damage. That's done that you'd pay for the repairs. Very interest in the to go lot of different ways that one. And only has Ricky bones cars. If he's got. Mean if he's got 62 in mint condition he's got big money no mint condition that's a but still there's potential there interest thing. I like that one I'll be asking my friends this weekend. What they would do in that situation hey Ryan gets left four assists last night don't get your hopes up. Have a great weekend I'm Mike show this is the hobby on WGR.

Card collecting hats you used to do it when you were a kid then. Then you -- way to college and mom through all your cards a way I heard that one before -- that was then and this is now card collecting his big business now card to your heroes that your mom -- are still out there and sometimes they fixed six figures you can spend hundreds of some new products and -- make a profit how does it all -- these days well. Welcome to dot hobby WG yards and -- to keep collectors up to speed on the latest trends and let everyone else knows just how bad. Fast in the lucrative collecting -- convenient -- WG yards most avid collector. Mike showed.

Hi everybody I'm might show listening live on. Saturday morning here August 7 I guesses. Thanks for being with me today this is the hobby. You can't give me called between now and 9 o'clock if you've got a question or comment. About cards about memorabilia collecting 8030550. Is the number it's a big week. Every week this week in the in collecting because it's national week. The national carton convention or a collector's convention rather in Baltimore. What this year it's in Baltimore is under way. And the biggest story at the nationals this year. Is that once again. The FBI is there. Which I think many collectors. Know who are up right and aren't trying to achieve other people. The distinction unfortunately in this hobby you have to make -- that's not. Everybody. I think most collectors might have mixed feelings about that and I do -- talk about that little bit. Our old friend read cause Oka who is. Down in Baltimore will join mean. And we will have a conversation with them not so much about about the the investigation the FBI. Looking into. The hobby for examples of whether it's forgeries -- hard alterations different things Michael O'Keefe who's been on the show for the New York Daily News has an article. About it that would that ran the other day. And he explains he's. Super knowledgeable bottled stuff and explains how this year's investigation is different than other years and it's not it's a little bit reminiscent of the that the at that time where we were just. Bombarded with updates on the Mitchell report Mitchell investigation in baseball to seem like baseball couldn't get out of its own way. With regard to steroid allegations in drugs in -- it was just a long time it really of course isn't done. But it was a long time were the dominant story in that sport was drug use. And in in collecting. And like I know that we have listeners. And even callers who. Very tremendously. In terms of there. Their involvement in collecting met most of the calls we get are from people who are not collectors anymore but. Either still have something that they wanna know about or. Know something or their dad has something like it's not usually from people who are really into I haven't. A guest on a great job of of getting much of a conversation going among collectors who Lawrence's new products or have opinions about Bobby. But I do I do also say. I guess in my own defense and I also think that there's aren't a lot of people who are in that category there are enough to to do this and when I say before that the you have different. Different levels of involvement among people in the audience you know you have people who are just not into it but they wanna know about something. And we have people who who are into it that the call a lot but a lot of email I get is. Thanks for doing it. I I am so glad to have a show or I can licences and talk about with my friends different issues that you bring up and it's it's really. It's really -- thankful tone. And I I think. When you talk about this this investigation. Type stuff that's going on now and it's happened before mass stroll auctions which went -- her. It it brings it brings up. A necessary. Conversation about collecting just that especially when you're talking about autographed items but. As this latest development brings to light not only. Autograph pieces -- alteration great. I I've tried to -- to find for myself. Not for the purposes of this show but just from my own personal satisfaction I've tried to find for myself. Sort of a cubby hole in in collecting where I can protect myself from anything like that I don't wanna have to. Not only -- not wanna have to worry about. -- pieces of mine -- tampered with have been tampered with -- authentic things like that. Not only do I not -- have to worry about that I wouldn't like to think about it. And that's a dilemma I face on the show like I like to think about this this Fed's business. The idea of of the national this week which I mean it's a lot of different types of types of -- scenes that this national it's it's bedlam on the floor of this convention center went last year to Cleveland. Four and you -- you see everything. All kinds of all the wax you can imagine all the metal rookies in and just big stop everything in between everything that the -- is seems to. Show up at this at the national. But then you also see a lot of quirky stop assist if it's this crazy scene. And the idea of the the this investigation playing out amidst that scene is just it's a little weird and it permeates. Troubling. Obviously because I don't want the hobby to be. You know to be like that but. It is like that. It's it's I think totally. Mean who might say but I think it's totally reasonable. That there would be these investigations. And honestly and I might. I might regret not handling this kind of thing differently. Down the road but. I hear stuff because of access that I get from the show. I hear things from people in in the hobby that I don't wanna know I don't wanna know about. Whether cards can be. Taken out of of -- holders and and altered altered -- tampered with and improved in the re graded. I mean that's not to say that. I should act like the existence of that isn't isn't a real. But I just have a tough time figuring out what to do about that and Michael O'Keefe to me and not not everybody in in the hobby is a big fan but I think -- he's doing an important job. Four for those of us who are not. Crooked for those of us who just wanna be able to put sets together and not. Concern ourselves too much with. You know what's been -- or -- what's what's. Legit and what's counterfeit different things like that and and I I should say that. You don't half to. Collect in a way that subject yourself to these kinds of things you can. You can put sets together of cards and they're not yet if you're not necessarily worried about how they greed kind of condition everything's in -- you're not just. Super intense about that. Then you -- their story about anything if you're not collecting autographed pieces of big names in the hobby you shouldn't have to worry about anything. But if you are -- night. I'm open to that I like the idea of of by dabbling in some in in the high rent district if you will once in awhile. And and -- that you can -- we always have to question which you know you do but -- to the to the extent that there are FBI investigations that card shows. That it that it could be that. Crooked mean the FBI. I've got I think is not bothering. With any kind of mean. -- there are crimes where you're gonna see five cop cars there are crimes when you know somebody's pick -- just does nothing that the police are gonna be able to do. I would think that the FBI has enough to concern itself -- That for it to be at the national. And to be investigating sports memorabilia. I mean needless to say thirties to be some pretty good money being. You know you legitimately. Earned it is there's gotta be a reason for the FBI to be there it's got to earn the FBI detention. And again that's that's pretty obvious and this is the third FBI investigation in the card collecting in like three years. So come on here. I've got a friend who does a lot of collecting and even for all the money he spends. He says he will not buy anything autograph it unless he has seen. The the -- put to the paper. And you know its its all well and good for people to buy autograph pieces that have. Certificates of authenticity. Often say just rolls off the top. Make sure you have a certificate of authenticity if you wanted to sell an autograph peace another question -- lot how to sell this. 1969 New York Mets ball. Well to be able to sell it online you'll need to prove that they -- via autographs are authentic but how do you do that. So you have Joe -- cards. From Dubuque Iowa. Supply a piece of paper that says they were witness to the signatures. To -- PSA. The leader in the industries and the PSA. For. That authentication. And do you know. That you mean you can't really know we have the president of the company on the show you can you really know of course now. So well on you have to have a certain. I guess you have to be kind of just realistic about what this all is and -- to be very careful. If it matters to you legitimacy of what -- buying -- and might I suggest please. Do not cuts do not settle. For some thing autograph lies that just seems too good to be true. I mean there are people in Western New York. That are notorious. For forging autographs. A couple of them were who have been in the business in in dealing. And I mean if you if you have this. Mohammed Ali. Autograph. Boxing glove that someone wants 200 dollars for. It's not real like just try to do a little homework. And and try to figure out as best you can just -- what what you're buying and what you're dealing with who you're dealing with especially. So it got up it puts a damper on things in in the hobby but it also it's necessary I support. And anything. Anything. Whether it's the investigation itself whether it's newspaper coverage of it any attention brought to it anything. That can clean all this up. Because it's a reason why I got out collecting twenty years ago. It just. There was just too much garbage too many lies. And you know it's it's not it's not something if this is not an industry that. We we need that to change is I guess all it all mean to say it could be could be just a lot better too or morally legitimate. But that the the other side and started rhetoric beginning middle that'll shut up about this. The other side of it is if it ends up that a lot of the big hitters in in the industry. Our. One way or another cheating you. Then the whole thing dies I think so we've got to be careful about that hopefully there are enough reputable dealer tonight I wanna say that there are. That some that we can make it through but. Get get rid of these these shill bidders get rid of this call this card alteration alteration nonsense get rid of these. These these jokers who really part of a black guy bring a black -- hobby. 8030550. Is that number right there's my sermon we got Hall of Fame induction weekend in football it's tonight I believe. Emmett Smith and Jerry Rice to of seven going and we'll talk about their rookie cards a little bit. -- costs Oka as I said in will be about ten minutes from now. Talking about the national some of the fun things that are going on down there things that do not pertain to. The FBI. Here is Brian on the -- morning Brian.

I'm excited like that -- I actually want to national ballpark figures for our -- our first I'm not going to likely -- part of -- stereo. What a little smaller and are actually Steelers know having. I know you've been any tax -- you aren't the sort. Started Archie to get through most it will one day actually it was used and difficult to get there it is Steelers. Actually it's English and he showed notable show. Are you a bit more red -- story starts errands don't buy it obviously -- I think the YE a table -- our. -- out was greatly most this is actually tomorrow it's very Strasbourg sang them. And I think most of the pops -- That was -- our borrowers column I don't -- go to known and don't do it well. Oral say it's safe thing though is that you know stay with mr. Burton stopped mr. all right so.

Yeah I bet a lot too Brian but done. I don't know like that that's what they say about all the guys the release. Shoot way up on the charts that they would've said that about LeBron they would've said that about Sidney Crosby I imagine too so sometimes sometimes. To -- if it seems to buy it it might might seem that way but they're still there's still some growth potential.

Well definitely there are stressed are your news there that failed it's seen. I think the Kurdish held heavy tactical people now it'll al-Qaeda first eight years it's art they convention. Our own. At the Cleveland -- Tuesday. Night's late treat RD circuit and then Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday. But our this year export this and I didn't -- out there they wanted to party dealers saying what this is not a bad. Our parking is expensive it's very tight area right well -- are -- smart. Column. Actually he immediately to have Charlie and it actually use difference you don't need to get an -- And Canada Kabul heroes for the man he actually did that it was -- and -- surprised. Pocket perfectly when you see the Oscars were people aren't open you know -- formation. And at that.

Just so I don't end up -- my my shoulder just can you tell me something quickly that was really interesting to use some item you saw.

Only so she refused personal Blackberry and picked -- This is horrible mental. And it apparently interject here through. On all the shuttle is our street -- six. Because that -- surgeon -- actually tables and even a little more than in the past I think it was very much I don't wanna trade aren't prepared for cash and it occurred of this show from the dealer I was a little. More growth I personally believe -- get an extra money NYT bandit.

Okay thank you Brian I just -- I didn't mean to be short the just thinking that not not too many listeners right now are planning a trip to go. And that's why one of the sort of limit how much we be talking about where you can park. But Tom you know that the national is these. Show all of the year comic books to. Now they're probably I don't know comic books are probably other bigger comic book god conventions does in the one. Comic con or something is that right -- you know yet it has had in San Diego again say India is that's all we gotta do it discovered. National it's been out there and joking but it out to San Diego Baltimore Cleveland. You know right ask yourself would LeBron play there. And and if you say yes that you want your card convention there that's what I that's I would do it. -- costs -- coming up we'll have time for more phone calls later on 8030550. Is the number and what you can do. Rookie card wise for the pro football hall of famers to be as induction night is tonight -- the latest on that. Couple of them most of them I would say out of the group pretty cheap. 8030550. The number I might show this is the hobby on WGR. I might -- welcome back Dave Buchanan producing today. And of Dave. Might have a theme going with the music choices -- maybe a lot of dealers at the national or uptight because the feds are there. And see if you haven't been running your business honestly good luck to you hopefully have been you don't have to worry about it. That's pretty much kind of a way to live by a word salute by what you think. Read -- from baseball card exchange formally David Adams we've had read on many times it's been awhile though Reid is in Baltimore have them on in just a moment. Let's get Tim on for his question quickly first attempt.

Yeah I'm orient the stroke court. I -- so I pulled and old Bible sort sought. Ultimate parent skirt on number one -- 25. And it's dot com Hispanic -- over Perot ought -- On market size like operate this scarcity. It would just wandered off. But let's look like that's work.

Who was just wondering. Are being. Or your son -- okay yes thank you I missed I missed that part. Are you know just I I couldn't give you number which -- gonna do with a card like that. Is look for even though the early 25 of them it's enough that you might see one once in awhile. You might wanna look on and on eBay to see if if there's a sale you know you you're looking to autograph maybe. Thirty or forty dollars for those two players probably too much more. But. That's just that's just an approximation by me condition matters and I don't I don't know the card so well to Italy with the market exactly is. -- Let's bring -- read. From Baltimore -- the national is well under way read UV got. He got enough energy left for another day or two down there.

Yeah table book first -- you know a couple of iron. -- sorry to drag on it'll make it.

You think what's nice to talk to get -- things with a baseball card exchange.

They can get -- few months I've been all over the country already. And I'm definitely enjoyed it you'll still be on the road Biden collection all the plays -- out of the core from hole so even better.

Good for you -- will tell me what to your observations are. Of the national so far this year in Baltimore.

Well it's part of Baltimore city in the location of everything so the restaurant with an entire electorate is that it could -- yet. The walker for. You know for a hot sticky but you know Baltimore got a good job -- welcoming us. And might have a ballpark where our strategy so there's a lot institute. As -- showgirls. There have been. What I wanted -- a pretty good for a location. You know first allocation. People that work so that convicted the travel. You know. Letting his pocket -- public Massachusetts and coming from the neighboring states. Coming -- or what and all the quiet about it because you know. You bylaws stock -- and Obama. So. I'd say. Having an awkward -- sure. Many people from chocolate and rational one big show here you're gonna go wherever it. You know that's enough about uplifting dead and I'm from the US they're quite. You know Stewart said that it would be okay we've been doing pretty well well on the -- so -- so. I expected but it's a pretty good national so far.

Good baseball card exchange is the leading site in my opinion at least in the sure how much debate there is about this leading site on the Internet for. Buying on open vintage wax and that is right in -- wheel house here is you may know if you heard him on the show with me. Last couple years read it forward askew who is the national. Four among collectors like who was it really right for I guess you might say someone could say. It's for everybody I mean they'll they'll be so much variety of what's on on this site really it it it's for everybody and collecting but. Specifically. I might think it's best suited for collectors with a lot of money. That wanna be able to pick and choose between. Metal rookies or pick and choose between really deal -- cards which you would you agree that you see it that way.

Yes if saw -- your notebook hard for a few particular cards. It nicely -- whose title I which useful because you don't know what's shown. All aspects will cause some people of course what's so confusing and you'll be able just spectacle impartial chocolate do you learn more about -- shot -- several years in my -- want that benefit you not only for what you expected on the card but for prices well. Oh yeah greater EPA has been for our industry and -- awkward questions. About their places in -- But got -- cards in question.

Right and that that the rest of that point for me is having -- to last year's show and the show the hockey show in Toronto a few times. Going around the country a little bit and really it's not that I'm traveling more but it's -- hit a card store too when I am traveling. What I what I realize more and more is how the Internet. Has normalized all the prices you don't get a deal. On buffalo cards when you're in LA or vice Versa the Internet makes it so if they wanna sell Jim Kelly or Manny Ramirez or anybody. The prices are are all the same everywhere and they're all the same at that show too but if you. If you're you're talking about cards that just don't come around that often. That's a place the nationals a place where you're going to see where you might see multiple copies of them and that's when you're in business because. I mean read for a card I mean again I'll use the example of the 52 mantle. Like every vote is going to have 52 mantle's but you're you're gonna have the chance at being able to compare it played better examples car this little less rare. You'll be able to compare copies of them and and that's really what the national is best for I think.

I very you know you're gonna write about you and you're about how -- it is mr. market must -- was. We're playing you talk about what we've aren't really aren't that well defined and you have several sources Jews. What the national. Yeah credit you last year in the local area local shall you might find 5% copies. And dealers do a good job. Quote unquote cheating at cards of the national. And if you if you have a nice card if you think you're gonna be able to find a lot of perspective buyers. What I do a little premium cable my car or use or you have that we -- national. And put additional forces or reported that the way forward. That yeah you could talk it away that you articulate it well it's nice thing to have your group. To chew up people to write and so it's not usual -- to Cedar Key cards specifically. -- and absolutely no. All of the fires -- are somewhat.

Yeah and and then you're talking about a situation -- card could go over ball commit that certainly will happen. But it's I shouldn't limit the the you know of the ways in which this this convention is interesting just to that I mean its interest thing for anybody. That collect anything or that's never collected baseball cards what you see there is not just cards received. Bats and all kinds of different memorabilia jerseys everything anything you can think of is pretty much there I don't know if you if you anymore read our. If you probably are you have the youthful enthusiasm about all this. If you are really taken with new things that you come across at these shows are anywhere. Are are there any is there anything like that that comes to mind today thinking about this this week.

Well you know because Stephen strasburg didn't demand right now. Baseball. You know positive it's -- where they were putting together now. Strasbourg charge throughout the show up here -- And it's me just national and if you look probable preakness post comments on people's so horrible -- public effort. Walking around the corporate well a lot of boots from all the manufacturers some of -- big we tellers. Some we smart especially companies would -- can -- because forward to over aphorisms or you -- apocalypse war. I'd open up after the boots and they'll give you additional bonus cards to go with you caucus helped support the plan. Product just. Hopefuls sweep of the Yankees throughout the week try starting a national other good setup. Or occasion will have an unexpected guest saw the different -- And so that a lot of things because if you don't have children twelve and under -- all week. So there are a variety just -- card but there's a variety of activities for all levels of collectors always report.

Read -- baseball card exchange BBC exchange dot com with me he's in Baltimore for the national. Read two questions if I might free you won. This this FBI investigation I'm not looking good pitching any trouble or anything inside stuff you might have heard down there about what's going on. But -- just like a couple of of general opinions from you on. This now third FBI in investigation in recent years of of our hobby. One is just can you give me and and our listeners some. Idea from your perspective. How widespread. Of a problem we have fear now that this investigation is according to the New York Daily News report Michael O'Keefe. Less focused on underground for jurors than things like card alterations in shill bidding mean are we the place still. And in 2010 where the hobby as you see it as tremendous. Credibility issues.

Well the reason why try to build a lot. I guess well I just -- twenty years because of the area and be a lot of these deals with people review of the caucus site and -- And that's what the reason why aren't creating an -- dedication. Has taken off because you need that extra level of security and actual level of assurance. To conduct deals -- from a distance. And so what you're court the first -- yeah investigations. One into outlook autograph as forgeries. You know this one. Is it Arkansas and it's a bit you know hand up indictments. The very few people know exactly what is going on and but what that seemed to know are really willing to -- the upper and so it actually comes out so they're they're probably -- appeared in the all the investigations. But doesn't sound like if it comes out do you know faltering heart because. You know better good article on our cart and official body art which. You know everyone suspect has been going on since -- that one of the former Internet options it's just. If possible or these very difficult to prove because. It's it's all settlement of all thought that I anonymously it's now like while sitting in -- world floppies. And holding up a bit of right. So. I wish we knew more. Until. -- and so and so that makes. If court records for it would you're you're doing news Spielberg -- were all kind of dark so we read the same things. --

okay and and I've also. Actually on FaceBook I read a comment you made about being there it being time for a dealer association you. Are you willing to explain a little bit like what what needs to happen to help clean this thing up.

Fortunate that -- actually look at it and what what their kids. Several dealers got together at the request of -- one of the largest. What a lot collector of sports memorabilia. It in the country. And he requested -- Probably about 45 people around outlook did you know because of the of this crisis. And she expressed the concern that there's no. National voice for history. And it's been tried before. And it's literally caught on but you're minus. -- association. Industry. What -- collectibles. And manufacturing what we're -- me. We don't have a -- and in order to properly. I guess the centenary history. When you voice sweets some sort of group. That. Jet pooled their resources together perhaps someone. You know express. Our opinions on -- story that well and you know kind of this kind of what some of the best that people sick. It will be very stereotypical -- all of baseball our viewers what you think about the people you know it's a snippet from lawyers or you know she's cute as you can go on and on. We don't back -- reputation. And he -- she was just about trying to start something you. -- about or some sort of association so it's been talked about this week another meeting -- bytes to discuss with you further if you look you know the ground. And you know what your goals this isn't good ideas and then they're -- because. Frankly have there's very Columbia.

Well I just hope on behalf of all collectors that just wanna. Play it straight here and enjoy all this. That A this investigation and ones like it don't end up. Just exploding the hobby or imploding it so that all all of these dealers who haven't been playing it straight go away and we really lose a lot of momentum. And V that we can just proceed as collectors without having to keep our heads in the sand mean you wanna be able to it. Indulgent greeting cards and and different aspects of the hobby. Without worrying about it or trying to figure out what you heard about this or that is legit it's just it's just not healthy so I am. I support all this weeding out of whatever nonsense is going on and in the hobby because it just it needs to go away. Thanks thanks -- okay.

Better you know you're you're -- what your problem. The purchase decision you're gonna.

Right that's true every nice to talk to -- again enjoy your weekend down there. Thank you -- baseball card exchange great exciting wax. Boxes to think about dream about on BBC exchange. Dot com on open. All right final thoughts from -- lines are open 8030515. That's what I'm looking at next time Mike show this is the hobby. On WGR. I Mike showed welcome back to the hobby no Dan -- game today. Small problem -- in cave but are now looking at -- as a problem actually bad choice of words Dave Buchanan is in for Dan and Dave not only. Dan. Noses sports but he knows cards a little bit so. And having a might have -- girlfriend here. Not you know be indiscreet but -- the first things you said to me was scored big points. Was as we're talking about. This show a little bit now wanted to mention something about the Hall of Fame induction tonight Jerry Rice on the list and you said you volunteered even. A comment about rice's cards that you have one.

Yes not his rookie card is -- in your cart 87 tops. That set as. Little bit of personal meaning for meek says like the first packet cards they're -- 87 top football and that 49ers carrot is top -- all pro and it's him. Like you said it looks like he's thrown a -- back to passable or he's ran across popular something as -- vikings player on the ground. On the dirty candlestick. Just I I have that carried out his rookie card though is as you. Point out off sorry 8086 tops as a rookie -- right you're.

Your your second year entry there. Well you know that the way you describe the picture. It's like he's looking to throw on a reverse or something yeah. I I could just spend. This is going to be embarrassing probably I could spend hours. Reminiscing about the pictures on certain cards in the name of dying. I'm not gonna know most of them but. Name the guy the year rookie cards that are more famous like we could just sit around and remember the pictures of those cards together in any collectors really fun for me to do that.

At saint Celek Kelly's rookie clarity know how many of these -- Mittal on the sidelines where and the white wagers in an 87 yet. Right and that's his first NFL card yet. Who -- dog -- first NFL currently does that set for Chicago. I think -- Cunningham he was in the I think he had a bears -- 86 sitting.

This is a bears -- seven I'm thinking ought to look that up. But rice and Emmitt Smith the two big headliners tonight the race card now you're dealing with most of these guys now. Who get in in football tries to get in as many people as they can. Most of these guys now are. From the late eighties or later. When card collecting changed. And with that you have rookie cards that are just pretty cheap Emmitt Smith rookie cards a couple of dollars a few dollars for a nice one. You know you're not gonna spend big money on that you can spend big money on rice. If you get into the nine and certainly the ten area PSA ten that's a four figure card but. You don't need to you go into a -- store and see decent Jerry Rice repeat probably around fifty dollars. Which you know is expensive for cards of those years also going in tonight. -- missing one name. Russ Grimm yup and Ricky Jackson both 84 tops. Ricky Jackson went their -- back cheap Garcia. Saints what business to these guys having. Have being in the pro football.

Ricky Jackson now I don't know you. You -- Dick LeBeau Floyd little and John Randle Floyd little as the name I didn't have -- Floyd little and Dick.

The bowl ever rookie cards from the sixties the ball might be. 65. Philadelphia -- on one of those years. And Floyd -- going to be mid to late sixties tops AFL. Or even 689 when it was the whole -- immature but. And John Randall we -- looking at ninety years so in there 909192. Early nine in the cheap card. Floyd little. Underrated player here Denver Broncos AFL great running back from the AFL so the Hall of Fame. Is just like it is for these men in their personal lives and as. As corporate entities if you will like these guys it becomes. Another career for them when they get in the Pro Football Hall of Fame not for right -- mean those guys are already. Legends and I don't know much more of a of a bomb -- get but a player like. Just like Ricky Jackson. Becomes a commodity now because a lot of people just collect all the famers. And -- up in in the case of a player like that and I would say -- alarm earlier in in buffalo is a player like this. Big they'll be. Bill B. Called for the occasional. Card show in buffalo or in New Orleans and -- Jackson's case. Hey it's an anniversary season we have players from the 1987 saying to the 1973 bills. On hand and and -- one of those guys and you know in terms of what they might be able to command for their autograph. Yuma -- looking at ten or fifteen dollars. Once they become hall of famers. It's way different. They don't turn into Jerry Rice automatically. Or John Elway. But it's just like. That the interest in them from collectors goes way up there are people who just collect hall of famers it's a neat way to do it I've often said on the show. I think teams are really fun to explore for collecting. Dmitri Young. Longtime. Baseball player Dmitri Young. Who has been on the show to talking about his world class. Graded vintage car collection. He -- He I I read that at the national he's selling off his that is cards. But his baseball collection he's got. An autographed ball everybody in the 500 home run club 45 guys -- the guy saw me that's gonna be Babe Ruth and and -- lot and that's some big names to say the least. Where that I start that the hole there the FEMA idea 500 home runs. Thousand yard rushers for team I don't know it depends how much you wanna do. But I think there are some really really cool ideas there. And hall of famers is the simplest one you can think I mean this these are going to be great players there's a pretty good number you talk about a couple hundred guys and in -- sport. And on the -- you can just go about and make request of collecting something from each of these guys so all favorites -- big deal in collecting. When these announcements come out about who's going in and tonight is not that of course tonight is induction night. In the NFL. -- the pro football thing to be specific to be right. We we talked about the FBI investigation. At the at the national what's going on a hobby right now. Let me just plug the best place to go. Four. News about about this sort of thing in news in collecting these sports collectors daily I would say is probably the best site for that certainly a good one. And if you wanted to read about what's going on collecting missile linked the New York Daily News article that Michael O'Keefe wrote. And other different reports from the national reports on on the hobby you wanna go to sports collectors daily for that. The golf guy's head Jim Huber an hour ago little bit more than an hour ago Jim Huber from TNT. I forgot to ask Brian cozy old as he left if if he even knows he might know. What else does a guy like that do. He does interviews for TNT. At golf tournaments. TNT covers may -- golf tournaments. British Open PGA. Their own TV made Grand Slam of golf thing. Like a much work is that. So I'd be curious than on short of look at up what else he does but because got four Emmys or something like he's. Accomplished. But. In a university of her so -- insurance I don't know I was wondering that listening to it was a very it was very cordial conversation. Between him and and Brian and and mark backer mark pacer in your political show but. Which is curious thinking listening Jim Huber Dave like what what else does this guy do you know that most of the the sports guys you see them. Covering different sport to see them all the time is enough. Even Johnny Miller. Like you see there's enough. Coverage NBC does enough golf coverage you'd see him you know quite quite a lot but.

Seems like he doesn't -- Maybe some rating on the -- or something not so much TNT real quick make myself feel old John Randall's rookie card 91 pro set by the way. Processor rookie and -- hall of Famer.

Yeah you know what did you mention that because on last thing here for all the times I say. People call up and they they -- they say what do I do about 9091. These. These early nineties years and I say you know start a fire with them they're just totally worthless. They don't have to be I do say this a lot go through play who play with them with their kids or something crystal Fonda have and to look at. Doesn't have to be worth a lot to justify their existence but which you can also do is pick out. Great players and once a guy gets in the whole thing of all -- rookie guard Randall McDaniel last year. Is his rookie guard or want the one card it's considered to be his top rookie card is a pro set card so. Those sets everybody's got a great photography. A a new design I mean really neat looking but. Totally worthless just incredible mass. Supply of these cars mass production just plus the bills -- from those years right right Super Bowl pictures. Can -- picture Norwood with his head down on that one pro -- card you might be able to. So. John -- somebody that as a rookie card in those sets and Emmitt Smith to score supplemental might be the best. And that rookie from whatever it is 92 may be any one -- two. Thanks for listening everybody I'll be back next Saturday with -- another addition of the hobby I might show here on WGR have a great weekend.
