John Clayton of ESPN who is always a great -- I don't know John you don't have to admit it are you tired of the devastating hit debate. Really because some -- it's it's good because it's it's football hockey and right answer although I think it will mean more Chordiant adult side because. You don't as a little hypocrisy is going on right now or you have players complaining about the idea going to eighteen days because of the physical abuse. Yeah he's up players -- you know get this concussion and -- his brain for the rest of his life. Followed a critical but it's too good debate. What more do you think. All the confusion is about -- I. I I think Greg hit what the league is trying to do an animal that. Really what they're sending out is is that confusing. In my misguided in thinking that could it seems pretty straight forward stopping guys in the head with your head. Yeah. Confusion comes down under during the off season this is all the NFL talked about. Was trying to police and make sure that the helmet hits and if they use the idea of the defenseless wide receiver and the example but it -- Didn't do it would only didn't do is carry through and get it to other type of place you seem like. Work kicking off on the defenseless receiver the dirt area last six not a -- -- that they were going to beat. Like for example PGC toward the safety from the Cleveland Browns a couple weeks ago. Not Jordan Shipley on it and it's cheap shot. It was pretty close to being as -- as Brandon meriwether as well he got 151000 dollar fine. No complaint about the site of that but you know 151000 dollars for a two week injury that could. Still Kerry for the person prolonged period of time it didn't seem to be -- -- he just didn't seem to be. As in full as I think the league at all concerned all the sudden you get the week's six. And they're going out with shots that were just vicious and so what are what was a wake up call -- you're going in the right direction now because something needed to be done. -- terror -- The F Pittsburg game you know two players from Cleveland knocked out -- on a legal hit one on Ali's illegal. And you know you look around a licking your shots shots it would just incredibly bad at. Yeah it was really something my experience watching football on Sunday. Mostly was just watching the highlight show at 7 o'clock and it stood out to meet. Like to start how many how many shots to guys getting carted off the field and head shots -- my -- it was a rather like half a dozen of them the Sunday alone. Ten points in real time to get some time. You need to remind visually what goes on in this okay. Couple of one that was very very successful ought to complaining pickup by the year so ability to decide stoked were -- -- -- out of the kick -- return. Richmond where you're early with a game here are -- all the sudden. They come back initial video and I saw at least twelve plays on the video where a guy suffered a neck injury that's gonna carry pro life. Career ending injury a broken bone here broken -- And so now you look at the impact this year go to play on Sunday -- and Cleveland Pittsburgh game would be called the third guy in the west edge. And -- was reminded me how successful that won't change once I mean you can buy. Without that technique adding to three -- -- there aren't together and then just obliterate. Why human being and still a good return game the physical played and all that stuff so and I think that if people are just they're technique. -- you can be just physical can be a little bit safer. John clay -- Estrada got two questions that are kinda related about this speaking asking about the the league's history on this front. It seems to me in this came to light I think during the Mike Webster case that the -- it was almost. Trying to make the point that these head injuries were not as serious as. Other people even doctors were cleaning I just wonder if there's a parallel between. The NFL with head injuries in baseball steroids a little bit where the league was in denial for a long time for whatever reason Justin wanted to address it. Yeah a fair question and I agree with it because a lot of times which she's been doing realized. Player leaves the team he's usually going to greet the team for an injury and of course it's very costly for a payment. You know most players do have a lot of injuries when they leave a -- and are able to do and so I think from the protect them. Legal standpoint they were in denial because -- -- they come back and say oh yeah had a concussion problems for real. To settle for a higher numbers one player depart when he injured I think Dallas has the tactical thank. Also tonight but I think I like about Roger Goodell and this administration is I think they're very proactive in recognizing the importance of football. In relations to colleges high school Peewee you name. You can see -- concussions and it's still under steady pace and were still finding out there's more to do with concussions than people realize. Now starting to become a little bit more in the forefront of addressing the concussion problem that's why it was important that they addressed that this week because they realized. Piercing shops like Britain meriwether somebody high school somebody in college is going to get a similar shot -- that needs to get away it can't happen so. -- Recognize that I would agree to a certain degree to probably more of denial. The second thing along those lines is knowing that you've covered those those steeler teams that have been in locker rooms for so many years. Now that you necessarily want to war could just offer specific examples but I'm guessing you've seen players. Who. You were able to detect. Had suffered a pretty you know it might have suffered anyway -- you weren't there are examining them but. A pretty serious head injury in that the culture of the league cultural players and this is really still true. Doesn't allow for. These players to sit down with those injuries. -- It's still. A high degree number play resist the upper and and we saw a couple weeks ago. It was a knowledge and Jeremy Shockey my attitude in Boston and go to another tie it and there was so we does -- -- to get on the field this country and -- -- the player that did that still going to be tapped out just like. Of this seventy's were every bit. Worse the what you're seeing now and the other difference is a player there eighty to ninety pounds lighter than they -- back there. But I still remember those steeler games against the Oakland Raiders and steeler games against the Houston Oilers. It was just unbelievable and -- older games against the Steelers were every bit as bad as far as the injuries because it. These sometimes beats the eight to ten players carted off the field. And going Glock -- -- the players and not. -- wouldn't even know where they work under and then all of a sudden you know which is coming over saying hey get away he's got a concussion it was. It is and you see the damage is. Think the players now who can retire for five or six years just starting to recognize. How bad some of those hits are like you can protect them to a certain degree it's important. So John I mean what word is the league. How popular is Cheney -- -- going to be with the league office after what I saw some comments from him today and Mike brought him up earlier to. I'm gonna keep using my helmet that fight has sometimes I get. I blacked out a little bit and I'm I'm all good I'm gonna keep trying to knock people out basically uses messenger DB helmet on and keep getting people. Well -- -- -- -- all he -- put himself up for a steep fines and I think to a certain degree James heiress and although we was no proof of this. It's getting bigger lineman Brandon Meriweather for comments that he made and somebody hit cities made in the past you know you look at the fact that. And whether to -- went which you saw him do. On one hit. Where he basically just took. I keep in my head shot that you see all it was probably is out. -- out. It was a ridiculous. It is now I think the court -- -- to -- world but the current enforcement. Would be suspended immediately adds that while the. It was not -- in my opinion particularly want mom likes because a lot of weight and he was reaching out -- -- -- and almost a brace themselves and an element to meet. Was borderline and. He 5000 dollars and you addiction you're saying -- like cheap knock people why I think you have to respect the idea that people get knocked out well you know. I think if you top too much cheaper park on yourself and party can cost a lot of money and maybe some games. True John Clayton with -- us John I'm going on a limb here have been wrong on this question a lot with the U. I'm guessing you're not going to the bills game this week. I am not going to be at the -- game not to schools to be in Baltimore in. -- -- -- to at night he did stadium to get too but now I am not going to be attacking. You think you'll see any bills games this year. Not on TV yeah and so on and on I'll be what computer I'll be watching tape did you realize that everyone of their games when the schedule came out was for Sunday at one. I got I -- that's a -- that's a statement a little bit and yes and I think that. Not all going east and they were going to be as bad as they warm and I certainly. Anticipated that from what I saw and training camp but you know he's still always hope that. Teams can turn around and you make the right mood in get a little bit better but yes unfortunately -- underway -- an iPod only a little bit. Or is this how it goes and you and me I'm sure you do this and lots city's John this is we've been. Sort of talking a lot this summer and this season as it's unfolding and I'm sure we will continue to about you know bottoming out finally being bad enough to get the high draft pick. Once you get -- real look at that -- might start to feel it week to week. I don't know -- I was ready for because it it doesn't even feel to me like there's a game on Sunday -- -- it just feels like I it feels like January. Clinton then I understand because I mean listen in -- -- follow that in so many different cities to. You know it's -- it is obvious for what I saw and what I thought would -- and I'll also be honest about the possibilities of turnaround and try to at least. Don't -- a light at the end of the tunnel and I keep you don't three at least three examples of you know proteins that are doing better. Quicker than -- This -- for. It Willis was at the bottom of the barrel -- they when you look at them last year there were one to fifteen and they deserve to be one at fifteen even one how to get the one. And you look at the stack that. They were up you know -- young coach in Steve Spagnuolo we really liked. -- the building on the offensive line and boom they get Sampras for our right so -- get three and three right now at 500 team. Protest a pistol for five -- team but you can see. Where -- quarterback. You can move. But but they clearly bottom of the barrel. They were 31 last year based on Josh Freeman beneath -- high pick used toward the middle of the round. -- this Millwood from the young guy at the wide receiver he started to build franchise get three into I just talk if you go to Scott left handed Detroit Lions. They'll take at least part of it this way as bad as it looks from the bills' roster. I can guarantee you it's never been as bad it -- on Detroit's roster wouldn't sixteen and the talent reflected it now. There be one -- five. You can see the -- going into last week led the National Football League in scoring. And really are probably one -- away from turning things around so I offered hope and of course you know what that means big thing once quarterback. Now that's a good job John thank you. You really I -- that I asked the question the way I did are bringing up the way I do because I I know old. I'm not the only person that feels that way you know. So that that's that's nice. At -- on the positive side to Alex. Not a big because the 314%. Of the -- at a non backed before Christmas. You know yes and it's so let's go out and look at that for three personality looks like -- -- could be critical of the overall team talent. Some very high on not only amended the secondary and at depth of that secondary. It's young it's great young players it's coming to. It is because these secondary analytic are right so now. If things go positive in the front -- and there are good players in the front seven I think I'll Williams can do better for three and 34. Marcus Stroud connect to start to perform a little bit now. He looked up all -- you know he's a good linebacker -- and 3443. Up you can get this summit. -- type the defense it was here -- picture on -- to bring up the picture on name but there was some positive things there. And with the quarterback some positive things in the running game some building on the offensive line. And it starts to look a look experiment it's not. It's not a one and fifteen defense for talent and might as in my opinion -- three -- but it's like not an forestry. Your quick quarter to one Baltimore job I've went into the season reading and expected them to be elite are they elite. Absolutely needs to stop port teams in the conference right now -- a record four and two. Tough schedule I think they're still adjusting. To their personality and I think that -- now. We recognized one of the problems I think they can because you would make the what the fix it. The coaching staff to conserve the but he indicated both on offense and defense and like. -- is so bad in close up part of the that they have a young quarterback but they agree young quarterback Joe Flacco. In my opinion and that's been ripped all throughout the country. He's totally quarterbacks is he's a rookie mini me another quarterback in his first two years as 13 playoff road games Joe Flacco has -- -- defense. And it got three very good receivers right now on a good offensive line -- running games and Italy team. Our chiefs. Although was getting was something else there -- and holes and thin and then made a point about the chiefs -- fifth John by chiefs need to get to five intuitive Jacksonville in the bills' home the next two. Do it seems to get to supply its team -- -- now. And the in -- -- is that he recognized word art sometimes you get seemed to oversell themselves and their dirty fuel pump. For example a couple weeks ago Tampa Bay you know undertaken on Pittsburg so what you know we we former first couple games we can beat Pittsburgh put up come on -- not that's up. You can see the city once I was they're basically the mentality. That they were at 620. So it gets some breaks which they've received in San Diego being flat with special teams and they they've won a couple of games that they surprised. Oh couldn't be predicted that means they've played Houston in -- hard on the road almost got those victories but played three very well. The team that's definitely on the -- they don't it's a great quarterback of the quarterback. They're getting better on the offensive line and figuring out on defense and the one thing to think you -- -- With great coaching. And they've got three really good coaches are really as a good young coach to great coordinated and Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis they're going in the right direction. Yet not only did they play Houston are -- and they got they got job doesn't. My dad interference call was a joke to -- that that that that long pass to Johnson should come back as he pushed off but what -- On bad calls happen in the league. Where all my love this part of the show. Miami for Pittsburgh and Miami where you don't Sunday. Be Chicago. And I eat eat light in the Chicago to see Washington and Chicago so. You know I'll probably see if you concussions in definitely a lot of bad offensive line. That's a terrible choices is about easy flights is that yeah. -- -- -- It -- it was about where the cameras were and what pushing for the silly Tennessee game. Did not win on one. Expert in Miami was one that would have been a nice settlement but it's a long flight. So in the in the compromise laws to go to Chicago and Washington. What my third. You gotta take a lot of things into account we're -- it can't be forced to -- and that's usually one or two Cameron -- -- want either 8:45 eastern. And then another and a one on 1105 and so. It's a lot easier to go where the camera is because not totally studio like traffic to get their so. That's where I'm going in -- Watching baseball. I'm not one minute although I think and could be good want to come about baseball like it's too low scoring right now too much pitching. All on board were not friends and I'm here to go to rescue bear could apply across the country to watch the Redskins bears and criticized baseball for being alone -- already earlier to eject tie this phone numbers -- my phone I don't have your phone number in my opponent I -- John I'd be deleting them. -- -- -- -- -- My -- I'll pick the blamed for it and you are right because all you know. Is that I was. -- things some things in what seems to indicate that one room. My wife was in the other room and she was screaming applause and thank you watching the giant game last night. So it's like Abu -- here and it's not you it's not my life it's me. Yeah well I ever spent -- your dedication to the craft though you're you're watching football highlights you're doing you're doing the job. And that's what we love about -- so. And you'll be -- breakdowns on what teams are doing with their -- come on this big kick out seeing all the insides like guys and now it's changed in the game. Excellent we'll look forward to reading about that. You report that well I don't know I'm opened -- opened the enjoying it. Thank you John as always we'll talk next week thank you John Clayton Thursdays at five.
