Often running for this week's edition a kick stand up here on WGR Sports Radio 550 on the -- I joined once again by fly boy and Steve cantor from the law firm Kenner got ruined your personal injury in motorcycle attorneys. And this week. Just the three of us were to focus on. Insurance and know what -- law firm has been involved in a in the biker community and and helping people out who've been in serious accidents and to kind of get -- going on that Steve. Last week with a tremendous response to Jeff Wald -- an old friend fly boys who if you don't remember last week you're gonna check about it that the audio all the WGR 550 dot com please do so all the shows are they're just click on the kick stand up. -- Jeff was in a terrible accident two years ago April. Lost his leg was saved on the road really literally by by a marine who was just home from Iraq Iraq Libya combat medic. Bomb mean holy cow talk about fortunate but something we never got around -- really talking about with Jeff Steve was some. These charts situation and what what he had and really more importantly I think what he didn't have. As far as insurance goes when that terrible incident happened yeah I mean nobody plans on getting an accidental when it happens. The first thing that you can look at is what kind of insurance coverages are out there. And you know our our -- Kerry got when did not represent Jeff but he in talking to him. There was not sufficient coverage to properly compensate him for his injuries and what the motorcycle community can do is to make sure the you are properly insured. There is no no fault insurance. Of that applies to motorcycle accidents so what happens is is it when you're in an accident. You're not automatically compensated for your medical bills for your lost wages you have to have different types of coverage in order to protect yourself with and you the first thing is. Is that. Your medical bills as I said are are not covered through no fault so it's gonna go to your own medical insurance. So. If if you're insured by independent -- -- blue cross they're gonna pay your medical bills but at the end of the case they're gonna wanna be reimbursed and that's what happening Jeffs case he had such. Large medical bills because of the dramatic nature of -- amputation injury that basically all the money went to pay back their health care providers. So we ended up with the with Britain next enough and at the end of the day yeah he really didn't end up with march that the vehicle that he had him had minimal insurance coverage themselves. And Jeff had some under insured motorist coverage in in what that means is basically. You are covering yourself. Should the person that hits you not have sufficient coverage. And if believe me if you as a general public are out there relying on the person who hits you and violates -- a proper coverage you're doing the wrong things so you need to max out. Your own under insurance or under insured coverage. Because and that way at least you know that you have the proper coverage it is very very inexpensive. How -- to how much coverage can one get I mean how much. 250000. Of coverage. For yourself or 500 per incident so let's he had another -- on the bike with you you can max out of 500 for both of you in the the way it works is if -- if the vehicle that hits you let's say has 25000. In you have 225000. You'll be able to their 250000. You'll be able to go to your own company for the difference which is -- 225000. Com and -- you know I'd recommend you do that the other thing I recommend everybody do is do they get private disability insurance so that if they're off work. Then there wages are gonna be covered by the private disability insurance so. -- two recommendations for anybody right now they're make sure you max out on your uninsured underinsured motorist coverage. In -- yourself some disability insurance. You know which the disability church would apply if you're hurting any type of incident access to motorcycle accident even if it was. An accident around the house. And that's fairly low cost to if you want you to put a waiting period on it so that maybe you don't get paid right away but you know if you're not catastrophic accident. You can have a six month waiting period her three month waiting period you know cost even. It's you can also like I do from -- south and -- friend of mine was killed less liberty did. Is put an umbrella and yourself which I put over a one million dollar embroil it cost me -- 117 dollars for the year that mean it's not even ten dollars a month. And that and an -- but the embroil it just doesn't cover motorcycle coverage your car your home also. But if there is a series sex and have a passenger Ambac said I am killed a passenger survives in his severe injuries. At least there's some money and opportunity for them to be taking care of you know might never be allowed compared to -- not gonna get up walk again. But it's also covering yourself and your family you know if you have your family there envelope and I thought about putting an umbrella over your microphone but that's -- now. We'll fly boy -- you can put these little umbrellas in my drink and understand again you don't start reusable umbrella uterine tonic guy but we amid Alabama. Flight four year old. Hussein and even -- in the long time that's what -- really aren't they wanted to come on let's it was a little walker they gave the way they -- -- -- -- say you're damn all the zealot even write a long time how how how many bikers annual percentage -- if you've ever thought about this do you think have them do not have the proper church. I you know what and I'm gonna really go hide a city eighty probably 90%. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Now because when you talk to let -- lakers you know everybody get it do and that people have the same coverage for the car nearly 2550 did not understand the insurance and never been explained to on. I got the 255 not just -- motorcycle. But I my other vehicles also you know could you just don't know out there who's driving -- people when you see that old car with -- all the rest not a believe me they're drive -- -- ability they have no collision they have nothing else they've got them minimum that the state lets them have to put a plate and it and means you're gonna do not okay. And -- people have to understand and it seems like. No disrespect anybody out there but it definitely seems like those -- the ones and those kids everybody okay. So hope you know it's. You know you you both you guys Stanley guys you've got to worry about that you know and I. One of the things that we will do it can't during got went. If you wanna call us and not talk about your policy will tell you if if you need more coverage if you wanna just stopping and were 15100 main street in ways they'll. You can just stop in and say hey we take a look at my bike policy until you buy you more assurance. You know we will let you know you can obviously -- insurance agent but Karen -- No cost for you charge stop in CS and we will be happy you also. You know you I know Stephen I would not mind coming out your organization. So if you're you know eight or hog organization and -- the eagle writers -- and it didn't have a meeting. And you want us to come to that mean you know get on FaceBook get a hold of us set up an employment walk out and talk to -- it mean. -- -- attorney here I only play one on the radio okay but it's -- will come out and talk to you about the insurance to make sure we're not insurance were at their attorneys. But the bottom line is you know will be able to discuss that and you'll find out what we're where and why you're not covered correctly. Getting back to Jeff just to wrap this part up you know he did a great job he kept -- real positive focused. In and that's really important. You know when you get an accident like this it's also part of the lawyer's job to kinda. Motivate you -- to take it day by day com but you know I can't say this in front of a jury but I can see it on the radio. I'm a lot of times what we want the jurors to do is to put yourself in he shoes and you know we can't say getting courtroom but. People that -- on juries sometimes you sitting there you're trying to judge and what what are Jeff go through you know in in what does that worthwhile you know no amount of money is gonna be worth losing your leg like Jeff did. But he have to kinda. Think about eight months of his rehab and all the time how bad that is in what what's appropriate so I ask all the potential jurors out there when you sit on cases. Put yourself in that person's -- And not in really think about it and it's not just about money but that's what our system is. And you know if there's a waiting given back his leg obviously we would but we can't. And has lost wages to correct and and so mean you gotta think about -- Gary Mann whose family man and he had -- you got all they can stuff out there that's why you wanna make sure you know -- covered prop. We're up against our first time out on this week's addition to kick stand up we come back. It's nice that we've got Steve here we've yet to really pick his brain. This year on the show. About all of the accidents and all the activity that's been gone I mean what most of the stories you hear about in it and it's coming through on the show so far this year. Here we are 45 weeks into this this year's run of kick stand up and we've talked almost exclusively about. The accidents that have been taken place. And sadly. On too many deaths we're gonna talk with Steve about why should make sure and lawyer up and preferably called -- dot win. You're personal -- motorcycle attorneys women if the unfortunate does take place and take time out Steve -- fly boy tumble blog -- back for more on -- ends up right after this. Back for more on this week's edition a kick stands up thanks for joining -- -- the Bulldog fly boys and Steve cantor from cantor Godwin. Your personal injury and motorcycle attorneys. Here in studio on this Sunday morning and Steve. Accidents are gonna happen we spent a lot of this year's show was already talking about. The the number of accidents the number of fatalities. What can riders do -- you know we would talk about insurance which we already have. And in the first segment this week's show no one else can motorcyclists due to protect themselves before they end up in and. In a situation. While nobody plans to get in accidents so what you have to do is you have to be prepared in every one that rides should assume that they could in fact when they be in an accident. And think about what to do so you don't wanna think about it for the first time. When it happens. The first thing you need to do is it everybody rides a motorcycle should really take one of the motorcycle -- rider courses out there and there's two in the area that they were unfamiliar with the ride with pride. Courses in UN I've taken nose -- also -- at and TC they offer the -- street rider course. And now those are great I know that people think that well I've had my license for awhile I know what I'm doing. You don't know what you're doing you should go out there and you're gonna learn something from it on an and you should athlete take a safety course that's the first thing you. That we spent some time mom last year and and this year already talking with Rohrabacher from ride with pride. And I know a big point of emphasis with hurt. It is usually directing -- -- -- boy disease you know it's a tough guys been -- like forty years you know you're you're you're never too experienced for experienced riders course. That's what they say in I have a feeling that she's gonna drag -- guys out together embarrassed -- enemy. I am I'm embarrassed and no way I know -- -- for this like. Do I do I do you do a radio show during the week I am used to be you know it happens almost naturally. Yet what that's a great idea and yet you're right Steve you and I did both go through the the beginner course which. You know if you're not familiar with that you can -- you end up with your license rather than. Distorted -- -- going to take a road test you go through the course learn how to do it right and safely and then if you if you pass the course and up with your motorcycle. License in the next thing if you need to do is you need to make sure you have proper safety gear out there and you know since I've been writing the last five years I really pay attention to watch fellow motorcyclists are wearing I can't tell you. How. Many times -- see somebody wearing sneakers wearing flip flops wearing inappropriate footwear. Wearing helmets that appear to have stickers on and that -- that -- Make them the appropriate DOT but they're really not. And yeah I just signed at the case last week in in the New York area where a writer got ejected in from forty feet in the year landed on his head. It only had a minor heading jury is opposed to major one because he had one of the safest full face helmets out there and so. They're called brain bucket for a reason people and and you should really be wearing proper safety equipment. Before -- go. By proper safety equipment -- -- -- closing too like being caught in a torrential downpour almost a hurricane force winds of just seventy sure Obama got to blaster and on the American Red Cross turns out to mean he should anticipate. I thought he had anticipated to be prepared yet know whether to change that you should be prepared at a bad dummy. A good idea I was there with you sell out we experience it together you headgear on though I I was the only -- with a teacher done. But but at a minimum okay and another -- for you got have a proper helmet you gotta have some type of jacket. That's gonna offer you some protection if you go -- prevent you from some road rash you gotta have boots. The other thing is you gotta let the family members know god forbid I'm ever in an accident. We want to call these people I want to call -- and got. You know a lot of times people get in accidents and they think what I'm gonna wait I'm gonna see how -- days in I gotta tell you don't wanna wait because -- -- many aspects. All the personal injury case involves a motorcycle. -- if you wait you're gonna let the evidence it spoiled you may get the wrong medical help in and that's where somebody who knows. Where the mines are can take you through the minefield and that's really what happens when you're in an accident it's like you're at the beginning of a minefield you've got to get to the end which is a recovery. And that is something that your your farm mean personal injury and motorcycle. Attorneys you guys you specialize in that you ride so you have your of the base of knowledge to know. Well you know what steps to take and and how to direct people and and make sure that they are as provided for is they can be absolutely and I can't say I -- a motorcycle accidents before I wrote. But writing gave me an entirely new perspective. In and I believe it it actually showed up in the results that we got because I really actually knew what I was talking about as opposed to pretending I knew what I was talking about. But before I wrote and now so you know. I think that that's one of the qualities that taking it turned -- and brings to the table. When there's a motorcycle accident but. When you're involved an accident the very first thing you wanna do is get medical attention a lot of times they'll be people there that wanna teach statements in talk to you. You were just in a traumatic incident and even if you're kind of prepared in your mind set to talk to want you wanna go get medical attention first -- he had a chance to come down you have a chance to think about what happened in the accident in how to I wanna present this because. You may. Quickly throw out there it may get perceived wrong by the person who's hearing it. In you may wanna be able to talk to someone either in your family and an attorney or someone just to make sure that your presenting the facts properly. Right because the last thing you. You really wanna do and and you tell me if I'm out of bounds here. You know the present one side of the story are one version of the story in and have a change. And you know you're you're going to be in a pretty that would leave any lawyer and a pretty tough spot your statements shot at the scene of the accident then a month later it's all it sounds like a different story. Absolutely and it just to step back get the medical treatment and give yourself a little perspective I mean a lot of times. People -- accidents even when it's not their fault they feel like oh I was in an -- so I must have some fall like feel guilty in all of a sudden that comes -- misstatement but that's not really what happened. So you know when you get the medical treatment have a chance to come down. And -- and then that way you can present to keep that the facts as they actually happen. And what happens is that when you get that first statement the entire case is gonna flow from the air and you may say later on why I didn't mean it that way I wanna explain it but. Once. It's out of the box at the way it is. I'm curious for your perspective on. Whatever biases there may be up there from car drivers to it to motorcyclists and -- who it would be accidents that that have taken place. About whether you would agree with this that that that. Mountain people who do not ride our predispose the notion that while the motorcycle probably did something wrong. It probably some motorcycle said at no mufflers on his bike into some loud obnoxious dude who probably was drawn to. And we're you know it had to be that guy's fault because he looks like he'd be the guide it would be -- or -- that would the ball. Sure I think that there's certain stereotypes that are pervasive it in unfortunately some of the bad apples -- do ride on safely. Out their -- for everyone so that the thought is is all I was in action with a motorcyclist the motorcyclist must've done something wrong when the statistics bear out that Italy 75% of the time it's the sole fault of the driver all of the car -- park. Cell you know I I think that daddy is a you know a stereotype that we have to try and overcome through education of the public. Another good reason to have a lawyer who rides and understand the culture in the perspective of the writer. As opposed to someone who would not have that expertise absolutely the other thing it happens is is that sometimes. You get an accident and it's like got I'm just happy to be a life and an even the doctors in the medical personnel kind of have to this guy that I just talked about earlier got thrown forty feet. I mean you know he walked away with a mile danger had a injury and a broken wrist and separated shoulder. But he may have other injuries that got missed at the hospital because they're just like dude you shouldn't even be walking and yeah and you know soak city you're alive you should be happy and they didn't necessarily do as thorough as I would have liked to check up on this guy. And you know that's one of the things -- -- -- got -- does and we make sure that followed up -- -- -- something else that can. God when dozens were up against another break is promote lots of events in the area and in in in the past few weeks provided we've covered all the bases he wanted to cover on this. I think in the next segment we should talk more extensively about a few events that you guys are involved in weekly. And and and some just specific events to did this weekend in the future of the summer. That are coming up at that school you guys let's take a vote during the break and see if we wanna let Paul talk. I know this has been this has been the Steve -- which is which is where it's post debate no offense on notice about caring guy winning and he knows a lot more about him we we we miss you guy fly boy -- Steve -- from -- got -- humbled like time out back for more after the -- stands. Back to put the lid on this week's edition a kick stand up here and WGR Sports Radio 550 thanks for opportunity and I haven't already -- go to the website WGR 550 dot com and click on the -- stands up. I kind you can hear any. Of these shows -- this one obviously included. In the audio -- if you are just tuning in now and missed the proceeding twenty minutes or so and any of the previous shows. In news in the very near future some announcements regarding our our Blake of the year contest and Blake that we can one now wants week if some legal stuff. Steve to iron out as far as the the rules of the continental we have to do -- up forward and is talking about the events that week to week you guys kindergarten and are involved in sponsoring. Is -- some events coming up. This weekend or even today. Steve view we had a couple things you want to squeeze in about the importance and the value of having a lawyer on the scene very early on if you are in an accident. One of the biggest things about getting an experienced motorcycle accident tourney like the people can't -- got involved right away. Is because accident scenes change over time. Our cars it where they -- it moved trees you cut back channels change from time to time so if you're an accident this bringing you think well I'll wait and see how I do. And then somebody goes out there in the fall. The the the shadows -- gonna change and wrote sometimes change sometimes he make repairs. To the roads sometimes we have -- to cause accidents and you know. Maybe repair we may not know what it was because it's not there anymore so. A lot of times we will hire an accident reconstruction and sometimes. Not -- got one but other firms have had reconstruction is thrown out of court not. -- be allowed to testify because they did there. Reconstruction too remote in time from when the accident occurred so. It's well worth consulting with a with -- experienced attorneys like in Oregon went -- sooners an accident happened so we can go watch it take a look at the scene. It's really really important. All right good to know that. Fly boy. What's going on there's something going on today -- we wanna talk about and then you know -- from some weekly event that can I went yeah and that and yes guys I am here today. Dead this that this show is great and and and Steve needed to be in here and really talk about the the issues of lawyering up and making sure the take care of your issues when you do have an accident. On one thing I think people need to know out there is that caring guy when over the quite -- sense though -- will -- last. Has been a big part of the motorcycle community. They have sponsored many charitable organizations many runs that support charity organizations. So everybody should know the name -- in doubt after night you know the logo with the buffalo on the motorcycle. In fact we even have an event coming up a week from today and the eighteenth of July. It's in Rochester new York and it's it's really put -- by Rochester Harley owners group the -- group up their and this airport Daniels Hoggan grosses dice run. And it benefits the Mary -- oh children's center up their. And these people work with -- very specialized children and and and it's one heck of a school. And the school's been around since 1968. And it's it's just a great great events -- you know I hear a lot of people including my old hog -- -- -- saying we want replaced a right to ride destination we'll hear ego. -- right direct sister do the right take a ride home you put a couple hundred miles on and you know what. Net and then -- happy about it but just -- some of the events that that Steve has been a proud sponsor of you know and -- and god went. Israel Hollywood happening we've been down there for quite a few years okay you know we do though hog farm you know right there with -- in the -- you know spots in the swap meet. And also while we take care about the -- we got one coming up in July here okay. That we're going to be part of our -- also matter falls hard -- major blessing which mixture of either 25 year doing it. Along with the -- front which supports canine helpers -- -- A couple other charities out there also in September with Wyoming county -- -- Iran. Which raises money to support the kids in Wyoming county to make sure they have a proper and fun Christmas so think about that folks when you look at for the attorney I know there's a great -- couple commercials up there has a couple of firms we can't mention on the air here. But there's only one firm that I know of and and one for -- you need to go to when your personal injury is Kantor and god all right. Thank you very much boys Steve scanner fly boy from -- got wind humble blog we'll back with you again next week. Here -- kick stand up enforcement.
