Welcome everybody our second edition of our NFL draft podcast here on WGR 550 dot com. Rankles deal with -- and as always our draft guru here at the station. -- -- as we get to set for the draft which is getting closer and closer yes it is now march. And that means April. Is among the way and we know late April means the draft is going to be right there we're looking forward to that NFL labor talks unfortunately right now. Drawing the most headlines surrounding league wide news. As most of you draft junkies that are guessing -- listening here right now on our podcast would love to hear more draft and lasts about. All the labor stuff that's going on but we hope that there is good news to report soon on that but -- to talk draft but. Joe one thing I know my best to in the air and maybe for those that haven't hear that the labor front. And draft preparations. Do they get in the way each other at all other -- coverage. As far as teams are they more worried about the lockout right now or they are more worried about getting ready for the dry. It does affect the draft a little bit first and foremost I mean we're not gonna see free agency before the draft and as long as everything holds that is as it is right now warning that we're not -- free agency for the draft for the first time. And that I can never remember. And and so teams will have to identify their needs through the draft and then -- filled in once once the CB the new CBA is in place. That is going to be affected you know late trading there's going to be no trades of players allowed only trades of picks allowed that is going to affect it. The pretty well and of course the guys at the end of the draft to. Are you know on the cusp of maybe not even getting drafted those undrafted free agents will be out of work out so it's a tough situation forever on. I know our last drop draft podcast we spent a lot of time talking about Cam Newton and the quarterbacks and obviously the bills are in that discussion. I think it it's very interesting because of what you just said there are teams whose drafts are definitely affected or their plan could definitely be steered in a different direction. Because. Of what you -- that there can't -- player movement for instance let's look at it seemed that could be just in Kevin -- they wanna make a deal for him. Well you can't necessarily if you think you know what. I've got a high number two were alone number one or whatever it's gonna take all of a high two and three Euro a low one or whatever it's gonna take to get Cobb. I -- give that up. And that in place I'm gonna spend my next -- on defense well. Now you're saying I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to get -- and I don't have that answer come before the draft night. Now maybe with that thirtieth pick in the draft whoever it is I'm taking Jake Locker from Washington instead of what would have been a trade for Kevin -- I look at Cincinnati. There are possible trying to move. Who right now is extremely unhappy Carson Palmer and -- signal for that matter and the vandals have of what the fourth overall pick right behind buffalo. That could be a spot or Cam Newton could gulp that can be a -- -- -- could -- And if the bagels are able to move him pre draft and it's okay we're moving on from the Carson Palmer -- -- here we go let's take plane diverted for listing candidate for. That all surrounds it and it's gonna I think that is got a nice little intriguing side story -- some of these scenes -- what they're gonna do. Brian by far in my mind this is the most important NFL draft I've ever seen. Moved it to be honest I mean. You could see a lot more guys rise into the first -- you could see a whole lot more trade activity this time around because it's gonna be the stress on. Getting -- guy at the position you watt is higher than ever this year because of no free agency. I mean you alluded to you know Kevin -- Might we see a scenario where -- two teams are talking although not actually talking in terms of the NFL allowing the double talk. Maybe you know they're sick -- take the sky with this pick and and -- set it up for the set up for a trade later with Kevin copy and that's pure speculation but. -- everything is on the table at this draft and that's why I think the this this whole new element to the lock out and no trades -- free agency assistance soul soul life interesting to set. Our draft -- draft podcast thanks for being with us here on WGR. 550 dot com -- deal with their draft expert -- -- -- Be sure to read Joe's articles previews mock drafts. I know Joe very well he studies and nose and just lives and loves this draft. And he'll give you very good opinions. On anything that you need to know about players -- who needs water who's gonna go where all that sort of stuff so make sure you read more on line besides I was into our podcast today. -- we start to look at. Possibly the draft itself and the bills and the come by and you just got back from the common a couple of weeks ago. Give me a player or to not only that may be the bills may be looking at beyond. Cam Newton beyond the quarterback that we discussed a lot at length in our last podcast -- Give me a couple players that you really said wow that Tom -- really really impressed me in terms of what was my first impression dominant. If you want for the first round pick and I'll give you want for the second epic first round pick -- -- Alabama defensive tackle. He was thoroughly impressive I mean he waited 63319. And and he only ran the forty yard dash. Point 06 seconds. Slower than nick fairly who he outweighs by 28 pounds so that's that's a pretty good way and not only that. He beats nick fairly in the ten yard split with so what that's a device that's even more than the fortieth in that in itself for defensive tackles because. That means quick off the -- getting off the line and then getting after the cornerback that much quicker so when you have that kind of reaction time and I think he. He was very impressive in that way. You know he handled himself well in the media room -- really impressed with this personality in there has been the number one pick you think I think he cut I had him in as number one in my last mock draft I think if I mean Carolina has a huge -- at -- -- -- tackle -- Denver so he could go 12 or three in my opinion I mean he's someone that certainly. Is the top of the class when it comes to defensive tackles and in my opinion second round a guy I. Really you know I didn't know too much about personality wise Mohammad will -- the kit from temple Mac guy who. -- -- and you -- the Mac so you'd you know all about it Mohammed -- -- has seen his stock rise from you know maybe third round. He -- a friend to the first round known because there's so many solid defensive lineman defensive bands out there. You might see him a guy like him -- to the second round -- he might be available for 34 overall pick I mean I've seen. Either melt hyper topic -- say if it -- -- who was a junior declared early. If you would've stayed for senior year had a productive the year he could have been one of the top ten pick next year now so -- sent to me is an impressive individual. Another six foot 3315 pound guy seems like he's the perfect bread and butter type of situation to be in that. The five technique defense abandoned a 34 so I think I think Welker sin is a -- think about. The second epic and if it does set up for your mock draft nicely if the bills do go with quarterback Cam Newton with that third pick then come back and take defense which I know a lot of fans. May be really want the bills to do a pick three and I know you know coming out of the national title game you saw nick fairly dominating its organ. And you -- while fairly default three that be great. You know you've got power's coming out of Clemson you've got Darius on Alabama the great thing is now there's three games there you could argue all of them possibly being the number one overall pick. And there's a guarantee that at least one of them will be their pick three if if that's where the bills on ago. Ago an act throw Patrick Peterson in the corner and -- I mean there's there's always this time again he was he ran out he was upset -- it right he wrote a 432. And upset with a right silently want to run under 43 right wanted to run under four to actually is what he told the left and interview him but. I think there's there's a very good chance that they're going to get a defensive stud now will be in the first round. You know buddy nix alluded to when that when I was one of many reporters talking to him at the Columbine. He said this is one of the deepest. Defensive line slash outside linebacker drafts I've seen now note that means to me. -- wait wait this is exactly or trade down even if that read between the lines with that I mean. Last year I don't wanna give myself a lot of credit but I read through the whole the whole water -- comments and it got me to CJ Spiller are focused in on it at the pre draft luncheon a questionable about it. Got some good sound on it and then they go out Miranda take -- I I don't know I I think you can. Read between the lines with with what buddy nix and Chan -- saying they might be able to give you have to apply kinda think Cam Newton might be Optimus Prime for them. A podcast number two -- just a minute or so left you with Joe the scale of -- deal with you here on double the GR -- V dot com. Player to who stock may be in your eyes went down. Or you may be had a higher expectations for I know you had told me Joe. That terms of off the field Ryan mallet quarterback from Arkansas's interview did not go well and he was property peppered with questions and that of course his pro day. That is just happened didn't go so well either in terms of showing a little mobility and a little utility with the way he ran. Writes I I love this step because. I looked it up earlier when when -- ballots -- his forty time came down right now it is definitely guy whose stock is dropping. Didn't handle himself all that well the media portion I mean. It's tough to go into that room and and people asking you repeatedly about alleged drug use and without getting frustrated. But it is the biggest job interview of life so I just kinda have to handle it a little bit better and -- seem like you're getting frustrated because. -- in the NFL. 350 pound defensive -- are becoming in your face every single play it's not going to be little. 150 -- five foot three media members. Asking your question about drug use you know. So lot I think ballots stock went down and -- I love you -- five point 37. The forty yard dash and if you don't know how slow that is at the com by environment and right at the car -- this year. 48 offensive lineman -- -- Right now some big guys right now it's time would have beaten only nineteen offensive -- 29 offensive line and beat his time cup this year. Not good I I don't know how fast Drew Bledsoe was when he ran forty if the -- before I looked it up a confined it. But I can't imagine. That mallet and blood so whatever -- they'll probably be very similar in and they have similar games and but Mel has trouble moving in and out of pocket so. Its stock seems to be dropped. Thanks Joe the problem until this -- our draft guru here at WGR Sports Radio 550. Next draft podcast we'll have for -- very shortly so keep check in back to WGR 550 dot com. I got -- -- We haven't talked much about the number two pick and what Denver's doing an. And the whole trades. That we mentioned that can't happen that could affect what Kyle Orton its future could be and whether Denver wants to go -- Tim -- and on the record that. Coach John Fox is set -- -- in his job who knows what Denver's looking at the we'll talk about what they're up to a pick two and how that affects the bills. And obviously if there's any sort of labor front negotiations that changed. Any sort of draft preparations -- trades now will be up on that check out Joe's mock drafts previews. That interviews with players on the audio -- action. At WGR 550 dot -- -- for Joba Scalia. I'm -- -- this has been our NFL draft podcast number to check back for more draft coverage on WGR 550 dot com.
