So many great high school coaches and you can cover for the mistake it's harder to cover for the problems and it. Talent deficiencies when you're in the NFL because for the most part everybody's been a top college player and the draft choice. I respect your opinion on that we've made maybe if Bulldog gets tied down and put tape on his -- we'll talk about this more later. I will say. I'm quite sure that this coach of a student body of 350 kids is not out counting these teams he's beating by thirty points. But it's you know. I think -- maybe you'll see it's Sunday. Speaking of dominating. John 417. I know you you thought I mean I'd I'd -- that last week there can be an upset I just never expected that. No I mean who you know. What do you make of what I can now what does it what does it mean right now. Love is good things for the build a bad things for the -- it to it's note is that. -- want people had been thinking that it's east. Really kind of had a bad pre season in and -- exhibition season I think -- illustrated by the fact that I think they haven't. -- through the motions for three weeks try to pick it up for game four got two guys hurt and then -- big steak and egg in Arrowhead Stadium now He look at the the bill -- go and they. How coax them out play them out also immune name that. And now and now we have some momentum so to clearly the -- -- it be as bad as they played in you'd have to think that the bill's champions as a strong and as dominant as they played. I wanna talk more about the chief part of this and maybe the coach speaking of unconventional. Maybe as we go on if we have time. But just on the bills. I mean what what stood out the most He would just a minute we're obviously prepared they took advantage of the red zone opportunities. And I mean stop the run but the game got out of hand early enough that the chief really couldn't stay devoted to the running game maybe it was because He. I don't think the big thing was just Powell. The case I had no answers for some of the two teams that can't Gailey was putting out there whether it was at four receivers scheme that they ran about 21 times -- The three three wide receivers one tight end and you know they just -- totally caught out balanced on Obama to that would have been Milosevic Eric -- or early in the game because even I was in the second year. -- to control how much of the act and He was their best player but one loss -- a player doesn't. Necessarily. Totally changed as bad as it was I just think that if the bills looked like a more prepared team. And that that on offense -- seem to be so prevalent and Romeo crow now He would think. Having been in this division. What -- with the New England knowing all the principal these days coached against that probably against immediately probably fifteen times through the years. In different venues. But the He does it have any answers. John what's your updated feeling on how good the bills might be. I had a better feel this week I think I didn't think that say they were better on defense I think particularly against the run. I was never against their secondary I did have questions about the past Russians still duke and I still wonder about where that profit is going to be. You know it. It likely that the so that's what this does not be Jim Kelly opposite. For we note that and I think that even open on Tim Kelly by the numbers. Will proceed now against Oakland. It is for real and these start to put together 23 weeks a -- of the -- -- know because my my rating and a bank and on my Twitter account. I think everybody is blasting me saying how can you put but He built -- Kansas City Chiefs it's like. Wait a second there was a six game gap last year between two teams. I don't know that -- close yet so. I'm not going overdue. But I'm also going to applaud what was a very good effort and I think some progress and it. All big test with a raiders BI they are they a better team would do thought they were a better team than this than the chiefs before the season began. I thought there will be even because -- -- the key would move backwards because I didn't think they did enough during the offseason and I also thought that. The a lot of their success was the fact that they had an easy schedule it played the NFC west and it took advantage of a lot of those teams and it wasn't like the toughest division note that the way that things look in the pre season the raiders are better team. I greeted the raiders a little below the Kansas city's east -- in deference to the fact that he's our team that supposedly are on the rise but what I look at the raiders. He can't run the ball very well. The defense of line as the beast but that's going to be the bad matchup because. Still the -- -- the -- still shaky and these guys are very physical and very imposing on the defense of line and if they can't contain Richard Seymour and outlined. It could be a tough day for the running game about Paper Ryan Fitzpatrick so that they'll play a better brand of football -- they played last week in Kansas City. And how much different is that from the chiefs and the -- pass rush it was to be respected but as far as being big and physical you give the raiders the the -- there may be -- Yet not even close because even noticed too high draft choices in the key defense of lines. They really haven't performed all that well Glenn Dorsey is really playing out of position -- at 43 defensive tackle playing 34 defensive end. And He really hasn't been able to master that and they put. Picked up -- -- in the bad 2009 draft and He has lived up to the number three pick in the elite -- and the -- look at that line and. There really isn't anything there Tom all the is sensational as the pass rusher and they have a pretty good you -- one good inside linebacker but that's about it. We look at the raiders I'm not sold on their linebackers at all but I'm definitely sold -- the more Houston Richard Seymour. Tom Kelly is a big big physical type of linemen so there's three there's three guys they're the have to kind of account for because they can just knock you back. John Clayton -- us every Thursday at five on WGR. John -- Darrius Heyward-Bey was injured today yeah bad at all. It's bad news for the bills -- our. And his credibility because. One thing that the raiders have done and -- made a lot of mistakes and they've been drafting and they always strapped for speed and make rapid period that Heyward bay and now he's considered that the strapping guy in the west because He drops of all time and He really can't catch the ball that well. But they'd start him even though there's more talented guys behind him out I'm on my pocket about this physical skills and in the guys can afford 4340 Guyanese Paul. But He does not catch the ball well there's only two -- where He can catch the ball so now. Back -- the can't -- and -- more to move up and do some more things you know we don't know but Jacoby Ford he's injured. But taking Darrius Heyward bay that injuries gonna knock them out for this game out of out of the mix could actually help the raiders as opposed to hurt the -- While around injuries to to the raiders I saw some at all Michael -- Do you know good safety. For the raiders got a nice big contract this off season how seriously is He hurt me could He did is it likely will miss this game. Now it's I mean He still can't play again and again you got overpaid me. Lot of not a covered questions on him he's got great great speed but a lot of times it just doesn't seem to take the right angle -- some of the coverage so. Like a lot of teams right now the injuries are starting to mount up I was doing the injury list. Just the yesterday and I looked and finish the list of last week there's about a 140 guys were out questionable or did not practice. And yes so they'd be -- for questionable or already up to about a 180 this week so there's like 33 of 40% increase the number of injuries based on we want. Interest thing how about. If -- if I may delve back into the power rankings things done -- 22 questions I'd like to it to know on behalf of people who've asked us about it. You mentioned you were getting some feedback one is. It's a collaboration is -- it with other people you work with so you do some teams and our they put in order. And I we -- at what we do legitimate site I give analysis you know once and analysis on. The fourteenth in the AFC east but we all vote for the 32 teams in an order. Okay and so it I'm not saying there should be any kind of scientific approach to this but. When you think about last year vs this year last year obviously counts for something. How much. Mean last year. Hear what you do in what I do -- -- -- try to still evaluate where the talent level of the team is how many losses that they took and then also comedy gains that they had added to the draft free agency or trades. So you have to go with the based talent you also go with the evaluation of the quarterback and then which you do that you go in and try to see how they start performing and where they set. And. If you look at the talent level last year He realized it was one of the worst teams in the National Football League. You can see that the draft is the least. Balked at some things in defense of line and some things look a little bit better. But as far as the overall reading as we did we carry over can we epic period over because distill the same -- what does that fit to. Forty. 414040. Players from last year here coming in that neighborhood so he's still ought to have some semblance of last year until you at least. Figure out how the trends go at how the team starts to really get that personality in the first few weeks of the. John Bulldog I thought yesterday had a good point about about this power rankings for people who were upset about it He said. If you're upset with how someone's opinions. Determine the rankings you might wanna try looking at the standings. Because because the standard are the are the rankings without opinion of opinion free rankings but -- -- want problem of weak one is that the other sixteen teams that are number one and there are sixteen teams that are number two. There's only one game. Yeah so it like that's where you have to start putting the value judgment them because I mean technically it is only a one game gap between sixteen team. Hey John we heard some news today about the bills perhaps having a desire to. Do something in the form of a contract extension with Ryan Fitzpatrick. What would your advice be in that department like. And when it would see how things play out. I think that the He you don't want ago. Into next year without starting quarterback so you wanna try to come up with some kind of a fair deal and I guess maybe if he's going to go on that four to five million dollar a year range you know kind of upgrade to back up money. That's fine. But I still think if they're gonna commit eight to move little but but authorities think they will welcome. Now I'd like they're gonna commit eight to nine million dollars and then close out the door for -- in another quarterback. That would be a mistake. Ryan Fitzpatrick is doing a nice job -- Slowly rising open up new levels quarterbacks. But if he's closed the door to somebody who is better but this franchise does make -- -- because there's opportunities next year in the draft. Maybe in free agency but more so the draft that's where -- -- need to look to get a quarterback who might be the one that gets his team over the top. Yeah I I agree with that. I thought. Even before the season began really in the Summers that it might make sense of the bills to do -- Fitzpatrick what Denver did with Kyle Orton last offseason witches you're our guy. Now here's a bunch of -- upfront. And we -- monitors next year we need to because we drafted you know who met. But they didn't do that is that kind of thing off the table now you think is the economic extension doesn't seem like the kind of in order. I would be on the table and I think you know it's it's a consideration we have. I have because. Even if this team had a chance to draft one of the top quarterback's next year. There's no guarantee the quarterback's going to be ready coming Jake -- he'd pick in the draft and He wasn't ready you know he's got what they got. Spent seven million dollars a year to get Matt Hasselbeck and. You will concede blamed Africa and they did cut David -- and there are plans to get blank ever -- -- But he's not ready at this stage and so you still need some bridge to take you went to this season. And -- a bit more I think on Ryan but it -- anything else. -- Ryan wants to do a bridge contract. Then they have died this time next year you have to worry about bring in the rookie and it's starting enemies. By the way I'd like to say something about this is that really question. It's it's not enough for the bills to deserve any credit just for. Having it come out that they have offered a contract -- Patrick you know it's about how much the contract is worth and if it's fair and all you all these kinds of things. You know to just judge it on the basis of whether or not you've heard that they offer them something is is very shallow. I think it's it's been. It's been likely go along with the bills have been reluctant. To offer Fitzpatrick on a contract that would appeal to him to stay. You know to. Make him to sort of speak their their quarterback their franchise quarterback you know. So I think the -- stopping short of doing that I don't criticize them for that but -- ice stay with my prediction from a month ago that Fitzpatrick will not be on next year's team. I think that's reasonable to think about like a -- indeed there it is going to be a matter of. Adobe if -- I think they're probably going to be somebody I agree with you because. Still there are definitely here it was a little bit tricky is. As far as the young quarterbacks coming in the draft because most -- more so raw I think you got more short things coming up with Landry Jones and Andrew Luck and maybe Matt Barkley they -- seem to be a little bit more NFL ready although would put like Cam Newton came up we did and supposed to leak. The least prepared to -- as for the struggled the most and the other point for port 22 last week. If Fitzpatrick has a monster year. A million very interesting to see what they what they do about that. Yet but the one thing -- at that but they're not gonna panic in that regard because what but it did what if Ryan Fitzpatrick and they monster year do you really think there's going to be a bidding war form I don't. There's not going to be that big bidding war I think for Ryan Fitzpatrick made it I think he's an acquired taste. In buffalo. And killed -- -- -- it was but it -- Matt Matt Hasselbeck had been in Seattle for so many years. We pretty much had one other option other than Seattle one Seattle decided to go different directions so we went to Tennessee he'll. You sometimes they -- you're not the big name quarterbacks. It's hard sometimes to get multiple offers -- -- right now it's got multiple offers but not a common good enough that it normally don't sign anything and He was just cut right before the season. John thanks you're time is always -- we'll talk next week you. John Clayton ESPN analyst joins -- every Thursday at 5 o'clock. I'd like to say that I believe his point about. Fitzpatrick not getting into a bidding war if He has a monster year if He has a monster year in his point about the high school coach are the same. I respect John Clayton but it's the same it's well here is the conventional thinking we're used to.
