The bills to -- Forty to fourteen win over the Denver Broncos who may very well be heading to the playoffs. Even though they got beat down in buffalo by the bills. So it overall collective good victory for the bills feel good. Day for bills fans. For those that were able to see it. And in mired in a losing streak of seven straight games they snapped out of that at one game to go nobody really thinks they can they can beat New England in New England but. -- the bills getting a taste of victory. To some lingering thoughts from the games you were at the game what what did you what did you make of what you saw. It makes such a huge difference to get a win obviously I mean that's really sounds like such a transparent. Thing to say but just -- -- to go from a seven game losing streak to just get one win. All of a sudden your feeling totally different you look at the math of it. You're at six and nine the bills are have a chance to finish 79 which seemed like a pipe dream a couple of weeks ago right but seven and nine. Is three wins better than the year before. It would be a sweep over the New England Patriots. Two straight wins heading into the offseason. From a psychological perspective heading into the offseason that would be such a huge thing for the bills if they could at least have that to look back and say hey. We swept the division champions and the team that we have the most problem with the team that we have to -- for every year if we wanna have a chance to go to the playoffs. Yes we got swept by the other two teams but at least we're able to salvage this I think they can look back on it and feel a lot better about themselves yeah. -- would also think about the ones that got away and think boy -- if we can sweep the patriots. If we steel wonder one game here in that game at and the giants Asia are wondering what if but stale. Seven and nine. If they can pull this off if the patriots decide maybe they want Brian Hoyer to play the second half on Sunday. They are going to be going for home field advantage do they have something to play for. Both the Steelers and the ravens still have a shot at it and bill -- dealers don't because they and a tie then the echoes the patriots and -- and Bill Belichick does not like to rest to start he doesn't believe in it. But he will arrest them for a half. He will play you know he's the type of guy he'll put Brady out there may be let him play the first series of third quarter he's done stuff like that and so the bills are gonna have it easy game by any stretch. But it but here's what we want to get into you today because well and now it the team has won gotten off this. This awful losing streak of now beating anyone except the team with John Backus quarterback they finally got the win and they got to win over heat team that. What is the league's best in in running the football this coming off. After a week that they allowed 203 yards rushing to Reggie Bush oval running backs so. The bills obviously they needed that when they knew they needed to have it. It was their final home game and they want it so kudos to them so that topic we wanted to get into today is. Well just how how you feel about this team I mean we all know they're gonna go in the offseason we all know their perceived weaknesses but. How are you feeling heading into this offseason. Or this time of the year this year as opposed to this time of the year last year when the bills war. Rudd and hot in and they were at this time four and three in their last seven games now of the bills are one in six of the last seven games. And and it seems like even though that's the case. Seems like they have better pieces in place we want your thoughts on you can take it. -- a position or player you're really confident in in the future things like that the offense as a whole maybe coaches coaching staff we watchers -- -- 30550. 188552. By AT&T and there's a lot of reasons that. Fans could get optimistic in and beat a better spot in the war this time last year. Even though the winds -- there I think it's a really interesting question because like you say. If you just went on field and where you are mentally is a bills fans rent and bills and right now you're probably thinking. I've had it with this team compared to last year you're thinking hey we. That's something going here. We really have some momentum. We're seeing the Chan Gailey is an NFL coach even though we had our doubts we got excited about the idea of maybe -- power Jon Gruden or Mike Shanahan we were stuck with. This Chan Gailey we didn't know much about and he got these guys to heat up down the homestretch and now we have something -- quarterback finally after Trent Edwards and J. P. Losman and we have some thing. You know we Shawn Merriman on the team now even though he's hurt he's gonna come back in 2011. And maybe give us something and there was a lot of the little bit of buzz being generated around. This time last year about the bills. Compared to now where everybody's just enough funk. 24000. Tickets were left over for yesterday's game. That -- for Saturday's game and that doesn't even include all the no shows that or season right holders the Miami Dolphins game can't sellout which at five into. You would think that would be hot ticket you know the division rival in the -- -- all the excitement that we had back in October. Yeah you really think in that this team I've had a ready to throw in the towel compared to last -- and are ready to may be. It's in season tickets are you -- -- by might its magic teacher ever get my Stevie Johnson Jersey are all these different things. But if you look at it position for position and we're talking about during the break with Howard I think if you would have put on a dry erase border. Piece of Paper draw all the things you're excited about last year. Or you were more excited about last year heading into. The offseason -- this year the list for this year would be a lot longer I think so the -- are better off in many many ways right now than they were a year. I mean let's take a look at where they were a year ago those high points that we were talking about. Glitzy but Ryan Fitzpatrick put together a solid campaign down the stretch he did it even though -- -- it. A few more interceptions. That he wanted to in the second half of last season but so put them in good positions to win they ended up going. Four and three in the final. Seven games that he started of course you can start the last one against the jets but. It it seem like there were some makings there are so Fitzpatrick with some something some of what to also another thing people look to. The draft pick thinking that it would be a quarterback that's something people really clinging to. -- in terms of running backs who was excited about Fred Jackson or CJ Spiller at the inning -- at the end of last year nobody nobody I mean projection. Came -- like a bat out of hell this this time. -- this at the beginning of the season. Other than that I mean Stevie Johnson with someone could get excited about him -- Kyle Williams was another one. Name me one more. That's about it -- and you're talking about Stevie Johnson to in the context of he's at number two. Now you're thinking you know because of Lee Evans you're thinking all right we have Lee Evans coming back. Steve Jobs is gonna be out there is our number two receiver I'm speaking as -- bills fans here. And I'm getting and just get excited about this and then they trade Lee Evans in the context changes quite a bit. But that might be the only thing if you look at receiver that may be well -- I don't see the only thing but it's the biggest thing. Bet you would say took a dip in terms of your. Forward thinking right optimism or pessimism about the bills because of the of the overall. I -- mystery behind what is going to play out in this offseason with Stevie Johnson and is impending. Contract running out so. It it is a little I I would imagine had to be. There has to be frustrating a little bit for fans in terms of that specific position I think of the bills wide receiver position as in most homes have this the junk drawer in the kitchen you could clean up. And then your kitchen -- a beast. -- we have guest come and over. All the dishes -- watched everything's put away in the cupboard the refrigerator full. But. In its hidden because it's in that drawer but you open up that drawer and there's just the mass of whatever in there he got some -- -- -- bottle caps GAAP. -- -- Old you know the couple of dish clause that you you don't think you -- to have around and Ruvell Martin eight. You have. You know you're -- your corkscrew that's got the -- tip from your college days you had in their deal. That's got to become Ari can mess it up like that a screwdriver. You know that old you know hammer. Just whatever you know that's that's the bills wide receiver position to me because I think they look like even though. They -- they played. During their seven game losing streak. Worst football than they did when they started oh NA last year yeah that's right because they actually close in games when Fitzpatrick jamiat the first two games were I mean even though for the Miami game with close. It. Just felt like Trent Edwards could never more than ten points in his life when they were ONE last season they were playing better than they played during their -- seven after me. Just this past you know month or two. Even sell. If you were to look at a position for position unit by unit you have to be. More optimistic about what they have on the roster now than you were a year ago offensive line especially. Everybody thought that the offensive line was just -- a hot mess you know it was gist. Garbage all over the place may be Eric would you know or think in. You know was everybody really ready to buy and Andy -- tree. You can make an argument that any of the Beecher might be the most valuable players on the issue on you know projections hurt. When Fred Jackson was helping -- -- Jackson -- -- regular feature with his versatility in the way they're able to plug him in I didn't please Zetterberg well noted shotgun but. He kinda help. Salvage their offensive line did Eric peers did wonders for that to this year. They found out that they can really anyone at left tackle and end with that Patrick at the Helm. You know he wouldn't get its act too many times quick strike offense to get rid of the ball quick decisions -- -- -- that's definitely -- but yeah you're feeling better offensive line has you have to be in your -- -- better about tight and with Scott -- -- we -- him you're feeling better about the defensive line because you have Kyle Williams coming back along with -- -- solid rookie season that's. Wasn't stellar it wasn't you know -- it was a rookie year quality by it was good. Your feeling better about the safeties and even though Donte Whitner is now the starter on one of the best defense is in the NFL which you know Hampshire bugs. Bills fans. And a much even more so than Iron -- I don't think it really bothers them that much because he's out in San Francisco with kind of like out of sight out of mind right for tires really don't get. Too much covered for battle and eleven and three till probably three to. It'll probably become a topic again once you get in the playoffs and that's the you know the national game and your watch your pay more attention to the playoffs and course he's a player on a very good defense he is not an anchor that he knows he is a component on you know. But still on -- maybe we're getting off on a tangent but. The safety position you could maybe argue it got a little weaker with Whitner leaving and being having to rely on Brian Scott and and George Wilson more but -- Got better bird. Became. I think -- is getting damn near 08 I yankees. You know encroaching on that territory because he's just so consistent so solid every single game. And he whipped out one tackle against Reggie Bush that was the first mistake exe and make all and that's that's in the fourteenth game of the season so Byrd has been. Phenomenal for his team he's been healthy all year he's -- And he's picked off passes he's been. He's lights of huge -- on runners. When he when he had to come up in run support he's been consistent run support he's been everything you could want out of a safety when -- thought was. Just a -- they'll open intercept a bunch of passes and and he's kind of shaky in run defense now he's he's thrown in too. -- valuable commodity for the defense even some other things that you don't necessarily think about quarterback depth. That was a question mark for me heading in the last offseason -- at right that's Patrick who people were mostly pleased but the and you had Brian Brohm and Levi Brown. And the bills went out strengthen that area to Tyler -- exactly when you Super Bowls her -- in the playoffs but at least as a back -- quarterback a company out and do the job they got better -- to sell. Coaching. I don't really yes everybody wants George Edwards fired I get that but they have Dave once that in Eddie wants that this time last year. I don't really know what Dave -- offering because he's been here all here the defense hasn't done too much so it's always a mystery when you're talking about what exactly. Assistant coaches too how much influence they have. And chain Daley's decision making or where the buck stops and certain things but. I still think that even -- even though people are readied. You know say George Edwards. Asked to go. As a coaching staff some guys stepped up you know offensive line at running back yet you know different positions with the exception -- receiver. And I think that's totally a personal thing because they decided they were gonna go with these unproven guys like Donald Jones and obviously the Marcus Easley -- situation with his heart that was something that was terrible Roscoe -- gets hurt her again. But you've been forced to rely on so many spare parts. Everywhere else I think is if your bills fans. You should feel better that this team did progress it did get better this year even though he didn't get the results that it five into. You you bought into the question is for bills fans and we want to dots. Do you feel better this time. This year rather than this time last year 8030550. 1888550. To five you brought up the wide receiver position it's going to be interesting to see how that plays out in the offseason. Obviously Stevie Johnson the biggest question mark. I don't think that's ever been the case and and if you can't reliance on going to be healthy then then why even bother trying to incorporate him in the -- in the offense early on in the year. Marcus -- might be the odds on favorite to be the number one perceive her. Obviously even though he's been cleared to return and he's on injured reserve this year but he's been cleared to return and and should be good to go for training camp next year if Stevie Johnson -- back. You could be looking at markets easily as your number one was the draft someone but Marcus Easley David Nelson Donald Jones that's your wide receiver contingent as stands right now if Stevie Johnson does come back. Marcus easily could still be the number one. But right now depending on what Chan -- -- once the line -- -- up I think he would be one of the outside receivers if if all goes well and you know he's able to physically compete with whatever condition he had overcome -- he's still trying to go through -- of lot of -- mystery involved and that -- past if things when Joseph and I say number one receivers for clarification that is -- Paper roll on the field it's not you're number one receiver in terms of receptions yes Stevie -- -- for as long as Stevie -- here you'll have that like Wes Welker is not a number one receiver. But he leads that features a reception like every year he is their best receiver. But that doesn't mean year's number one receiver like. You know it's it's like franchise quarterback it's a status it's not a actual. You know entity saying yes. So where are you on the bills right now do you feel better right now about this team about to head in the offseason. Then you did. If these two ended the play on first down second down right after returning -- That means he probably had a really good return right you know that's a nice problem to have to -- so we ended because he -- that means he went forty or fifty yards I think the thing that they might be most fearful of that is there's a lot of bodies flying everywhere and and injuries seemed to happen a lot done on kick -- especially if you don't really see the return man get hurt too often that is literally the guys on the -- edge of the wedge buster. You know we want -- to 25 -- but for -- a year and a half of his professional football life. He was getting for how -- five how about this though if Tashard Choice is getting fourteen targets. Why couldn't Spiller and do that early on in the year when Fred Jackson was running now I know Fred Jackson. Was doing right needed want to take anything away from projects and give them much in the in the first place Fred Jackson had the highest percentage. Snaps for any. Running back -- well. More than Adrian Peterson and more than Matt Forte in more than anybody. He had he didn't come off the field he came off the field I think maybe 15% -- roughly. Fifteen -- 18% of the time whereas most number one running backs are out there about 6065. The H percent of the time you know you is out there a lot and they wanna develop Spiller but. You can't develop Spiller productive in any touch and then the more we think about this I think the more. The more infuriating importance confused anyway I don't know -- today. I'm not too emotionally invested in this but I guess a more confuse. The bills moved into wide receiver I get that because he's the ninth overall pick and Fred Jackson is coming off the field. Therefore you gotta get CJ -- -- some mountain but all those times when Spiller couldn't get on the field as a receiver either they had Ruvell Martin out there at all they had you know right they had other guy and he why. Put Spiller on the field who we were saying and the ball off to them at the expense of Fred Jackson losing his Carrey's. We are saying get a if he's got to play wide receiver put out their username. It doesn't. It hasn't made much sense how they've used him. And now that. People have seen what he's capable of or not seen -- however I'm Hanson.
