With receiver John they just studies that like MVP voting when you've got two or three guys that are candidates on one team that take away votes from one another. Yeah we seen this through the years I mean we thought you know because. Took forever to get the receivers in the seventies and and we watched it with a lot of the past structures because there was one point. Well we have five great pass structures linebackers or. Certainly guys that we're defensive ends and help the boats away from each other and what it comes down to is once one guy makes said. Then they'll start to trickle -- because now he take away -- whatever supporting Andrei and his -- now go to toward. I Cris Carter or go to would Tim brown and so what we need to do and -- get one of these guys in and Andres still has the best chance. And the other receivers I think and so I think what needs to happen next year as long as Cris Carter doesn't get too upset and as long as. Timber -- -- get too upset is pushed hard for Andrei to get in because -- know what it does it opens the door now for Chris Carter to make it him. We -- that you know we need to remember how long it took for Derrick Thomas to be able to get and so unfortunately. Receivers don't get their -- do. In that room for some some reason that's not me and then I support him but. Unfortunately they seem to knock each other out as far as the voting. The fact that there is a small group receivers. That we have in this situation is supposed to bills players we can identify that this is not about. The bills it's about the position that's going on in linemen are doing great it seems John what what particular points army in the in the meeting about wide receivers vs lineman or is there also talk about. Wide receivers from that air of verses the present day with the big numbers that are being put up now. What exactly yet because what happened in the seventies is that he had guys. That I didn't have great numbers because it was a running away and so. For example at Oakland won fourteen years to make it but he wants to great captivity may. But he went in with the fewest number of -- is because it was a subpoena and the ball all the time as so. -- you'll both he and John what Pope ever to try to get in and that once one guy in any other got into what that would Charlie joiner so that's. But so much does the thought that this was a balanced offense -- if they ran the ball thirty times they passed the ball thirty times and you're not gonna have you know thirty. Completions and so the balls right around a little bit more so that takes away some of the numbers but some of the things that were -- positively in the around as the fact that. No seriously it's sixteen playoff games that he had like about TD catches in those playoff -- and -- -- campground or Chris Carter. Andrei didn't have the benefit of playing in controlled climate so he didn't have adult yet. You know his numbers held up so strong in December when the weather was half and it's you know not the easiest thing in the world to be your receiver -- -- Passing the ball successfully so his numbers hold up and so you know quality can stay with -- at some point hopefully get them but that's what happened W. You know there is -- all of a sudden you're in an era where it's quarterback you're surpassing Europe. You almost go numb to the numbers and that's a shame. John Clayton with -- us from ESPN okay. If it fails of all aflame because -- was in principle on which you wish you get to the durable we're gonna shorter segment the normal -- so John what do you think you'll remember most from this game. Well what I remember most is Bill Belichick getting out coached in my opinion because you can see that he had a quarterback it was firing a ball pretty well when he out of this 23. Completions in the first part of the game for Tom Brady and -- was with the lead driving down with four minutes left. He was ten yards away from being a field goal position that the 44 yard line. He had the giants on the ropes for a limited number I think at one time top remaining. And so all we had to do was either call in short passes to running plays and get ten yards instead what he ended up doing. Was throwing a ball downfield to Wes Welker that went through blockers and and then throwing it deeper tested the comprehensive one incomplete. So now all of a sudden instead of having two minutes and twenty seconds left you have. Four minutes left he kicked the ball in Eli Manning and -- is on the eighteen yard line with 353 love. He fired one long past nonetheless stylized and Mario Manningham and the next thing you know they're gonna lose this football game and so that's but I remember it's like. It's stunning to see one of the best coaches about the best coach of this year. Make it gamble that ends up costing in the game now really did. And up trying to. Call it challenge which of course that turned out to be -- had to make that because of the bank like. But back came back to haunt him because -- had that extra time out. He might have been able to hold them to a field goal and then try to have a -- boat driver about fifty seconds left. Instead they get the ball 57 seconds left try to get a touchdown that never happened. Now the counter to that. Does he -- getting out coached I don't remember the -- when it was Welker was open I mean I think a better Robaire. And new England's got a fourth trophy. Yeah -- back -- when you really look at that Deion -- stroke. -- in many ways. He voted miles might keep going -- he just kind of threw it too hard it was kind of one of those high hard one the -- of blob or a little bit was a lot of lot of steam on it. And now the -- -- for -- to make it -- right and he did throw a little bit too hard to Wes Welker but what should've made that catch. John -- -- so well let's talk legacies here we talk a little bit last week about. Brady perhaps. His legacy getting ping by a loss here to the giants if it were to happen. If again pass pressure were to get them and maybe throw him off I don't know how much it really did that in his game but. His numbers were decidedly better. In the second in the third quarter before he took a certain hit from Justin talk in the fourth quarter's numbers were not very good what you say about that and about how -- Maybe what what the big picture on Brady is at this point. Well you know what you conceit is that legacy is and he's still great. But he could see a little slippage in his game. The -- fact that now he does rushed the ball a little bit too much said. Don't he has been getting some injury is season goes on when he made that we had to about one hit you could tell what the left shoulder was you know not -- pocket. But it was certainly affected by the hit and he was affected by the hit. You could see that the events of one minute past -- can't get to him mentally that you don't physically could it not real mobile. But they can get into his mind a little bit so you could see he has affected. As the game goes on and you know that's I think it's -- that. He's getting a little bit order and he's a little less mobile and people worried about that -- and being able to step up in the pocket but still on the east. As 34 maybe five good years ahead but they're not as efficient and not as good as what -- seen what he was like 32 and younger. What are they need to do to -- On top of the AFC John I mean gronkowski the healthiest probably replace start. Yeah I got it being healthy I think they need -- -- at the wide receiver position they need somebody to get downfield big -- Try to -- Wes Welker -- to be happy to get to the point we have to have Rob Gronkowski. Go deep against Chase Blackburn. That's not been. -- thing in the world particularly at a high ankle -- so they need a fast receiver they basically need a replacement for Randy -- they've never been able to find. Secondly they've got to redo the entire secondary because it's just not that good I mean here -- the Bill Belichick team that is lacking palettes so much. That what they have to do is drop in the not just a cover two but it -- to that the state these are fifteen yards back. Just to try to prevent the big play they're giving that much of a cushion really allowing these guys to run the football. And that's so. Work have to be done in the secondary they also need to better outside linebackers you know you when you look at that outside -- group they've got two good ones and you know the Brandon Spikes is good you know that. Drive -- is good but that's dead I mean rob crop name can I get -- -- -- out significant -- convict. That's not great I mean they've been picking guys off the streets so they just do it that did what they need is Bill Belichick did GM. Think people would -- deeper Bill Belichick coached. John played with -- us -- the giants. There's some. A hall of fame as a part of the conversation some people are revving -- the giant with Manning. And Coughlin winning two how about John it. How would you read this if if if it matters that the giants are the first team to win the Super Bowl that was outscored. During the regular season also a team that didn't even win ten games and and really that's almost. What they did in 2007 that quite as bad but they were against only a -- -- team what do you make it. Well what I make is that -- you -- have a hot quarterback in Eli has the hot quarterback carry them on his back still carry them all the comebacks. Carried in through the playoffs. He got hot at the right time I think what it shows is that. He's not a hall of fame quarterback yet but one more trip to the Super Bowl win or lose it probably gonna put -- an act category and he's getting better and better each year. I think you credit him he deftly credit Tom crop this -- a great coach and he's been able to its. He'll go against the odds when the teams -- -- at the beginning but still able to keep them focused and finish -- You'll he's spread the word and -- and -- that team that is so well. Go to stores and issues as far as personnel they're often the winds not that good. Their line backing core isn't that deep but overall it's a great organization with a great coach and a great quarterback. And so. They will go to the Super Bowl next year but hey they can build it back for before Tom retired the next couple years. This still think of one moron to try to get to a Super Bowl. So you think you think there's other. There's there's still a lot of good work for them to do there that that group will stay together long and often and they they should be a contender John. I think so because you can see at least that from the core group still there had been at some point here -- -- a majority but they still have you know middle in the age -- Justin pocket and you got a great young -- pressured Jason Pierre Paul. They guys you know different very groups that the quarterback position up. You have that this organization drafts well and make it the key positions that corner deep sense -- and quarterback wide receiver. And you could see that wide receiving corps is very very good. Having the best probably the key -- ever had. -- problems now going to be what do you do with Mario Manningham could technically. Mario is the third receiver as far as where he has in the pecking order and you know he's not can't -- Command a big salary because he might be at two or one on another team. But you could see Victor Cruz in Hakeem Nicks are more talented than him so I don't think you keep. Mario they may have just bring back Steve -- but there there's still good -- as we've seen with Green Bay it's hard to repeat. And the -- there -- nine and seventeen was some holes. I don't I can't see that repeating next year but I think they they have enough of a core group to make another run and a couple years. Manningham is going to cash in like ranch did this and they. The -- after a big Super Bowl. While -- if -- number three guy on your own team dig -- and knowing and a couple years they've got to take care crews and they've got to take care of -- And he can't pay and 78 million box immediately number three guy he can maybe they are -- I -- war. By the the most but on the open market he might be able to point seven Harry. Before you go. When does ESPN and start making the NFL draft the look at the NFL draft the biggest story in sports pretty soon. And yet what we get to the com bind because you know you'll start seeing I think shape their you'll see Mel -- never goes to the com mine's going to be working infamous towels and comments on what he thinks is far as a -- but I think when do we get to the com mind. A week from Wednesday that -- a lot of this starts to turn to the draft and -- start to look the free agency no question about that because there's 470 reagents. But the draft board when the Columbine begins and so that. Conversation really start to heat up. Mela ME -- the nominal things on TV anyways yeah I -- guys -- and he's not a good traveler right they'll piper. Why because you don't part of finding your products and erode. There it is.
