She just made me carry them to my new apartment and take up a whole lot of room and they're not worth anything. But I will give her a tonic credit. Unlike my dad's mother she did not throw out all my cards although thing was that my dad's cards were actually probably worth something. If you've noticed already this is not Mike show this is Matthew collar. The hobby producer I'm in for Mike show this morning Mike will be gone. Today and you'll also be out next Saturday so I hope you will spend the hour of the hobby -- And I'm hoping that I've heard a couple of things from -- I've been behind the last. For Mike and doing -- show as the producer for about the last year so. I've picked up I've picked up a couple of things I know the keywords I know eBay. If you ask me what something's worth I will tell you eBay because that's what Mike does and he knows. A lot of stuff about collecting well first. Resent some of the stuff going on last night a crazy night in the NHL. All the -- about 8 o'clock 9 o'clock as if they're trying to avoid the Toronto media. Now they fire Ron Wilson at like 9 o'clock at night. And -- Randy Carlyle is your new coach was fired by the -- earlier this year Bruce Boudreau replaced him it's just talk about a carousel right. One guys out the next -- an -- Ron Wilson -- get hired by a lot of you know losing right this is Washington. Because Washington fire Bruce Boudreau their current coach also -- dale hunter so maybe they'll hire Ron Wilson just for the heck of it. Talked to a friend who's a big leafs fan last night what he had to say was he was. Blanking. Elated that Ron Wilson had been fired boy they have just been Johnny. Epic fall nine -- last ten games down to twelfth place. Finally made the Buffalo Sabres play tonight 9 o'clock three game Broncos it's always the take on the best team in the NHL the Vancouver Canucks. Will Bryant Miller being that is the big question two straight shut outs this -- -- -- 11819. Game row. Who knows my guess is that he's in net I would guess so but. They have a big game coming up on Monday against Winnipeg who's currently sitting in eighth place and believe it or not. They have not fired their coach even wants all year amazing. So there's a lot of story lines that this cannot staying Cody Hodgson is going back there is. Conversations. Asked by the media whether he would request that trade in he would answer and and of course Zach Nasional plays for Vancouver right check in on mr. -- in the other night watched it on and the old games center. And I hear the announcers saying I think he's gonna become a fan favorite. After two games or maybe when he total minutes on the ice he's gonna become a fan favorite self. A lot of interest and stuff so we'll have the game right here as we always -- 9 o'clock. And no help last night from the New York Rangers. I put onto every time I put something on Twitter I'm immediately wrong. The other night I made fun of Drew Stafford never scoring seconds later he scores at all. And last night. Someone tweeted me how the Rangers doing is if they didn't have the -- And I said well we're up to nothing so there's no way they blow this they have -- the league MVP as their goalie. Enqvist no way Tampa Bay they were selling off parts at the deadline -- it's in the world that they come back. And they came back. Because everything that icing on Twitter I him immediately wrong and that's what happened of course. Stephen stamp goes had a goal and it was just it was ugly. And it went to overtime which is already bad scenario and Tampa Bay scores in OT so no help. From the Rangers have now -- 66 points Tampa Bay in buffalo. Buffalo is officially behind Tampa -- because the whole. Convoluted wins losses whatever -- so that's where you're at with the sabres police say the Rangers. Love Washington can't win for anything that doubles just blow them out of the water last night five zeroes is just kill. So things are looking go to Washington but Tampa Bay's decided now that they want hang around the race so well. Matthew scholar in for Mike shall appear on the hobby shell on WGR. So now I suppose now -- -- caught on caught up to where the sabres are that we should talk a little bit about hobbies are a little bit about myself because this is mine. First time ran in the space ship here on the hobby show. I currently not huge collector of stuff. My stuff I mean any. I mean jerseys -- -- cards I mean old school collectibles not big done really anything at the moment out of the number one reason why. As rich as you may think I am for producing the shell. I'm not. Money is such a big issue and having disposable money I just don't have. And it's really tough because I always when I'm out places say the ball wherever. I go into the cards the war or to a collectibles store and look around -- same man I'd love to have that. Jonathan Toews Jersey or something of a job maybe I should've used Patrick Kane from buffalo. I love that Patrick dangers I would love that 300 dollars well that's my whole paycheck -- I don't think I'm gonna have. Enough money but my collecting history is it I think if you're collecting you'll have some respect. When I was pretty. I got the idea as everybody else around saying 1112 -- all that. Collecting was like the thing. You know you hear your dad talk about his mother throwing away the cards and how they would have been worth so much you think -- that's right I'm gonna do that. And what it turned into more than me going out and looking for cards that would eventually make me money or put me through college or something. It became a real way for my dad and I to spend time together it was almost like it turn into like every other weekend. Then him and I were going here going there going to ball or going to at some hotel in a town that I'd never heard of or. What have I mean I remember one time we were in -- community college basketball court and just random tables are set up it was a really terrible shell. But it was fun it was something it did him and I can do together you know we go to Burger King or McDonald's or something to fast food. After an. A lot of good memories from not a lot of good cards but a lot of good memories I'll tell you one that really sticks out to me. When the Cleveland Browns came back I'll tell you something that I've always follow the bills so don't hate me. My uncles big Brown's -- and so I kind of latched on because I wanted to be a little bit different from my dad so -- I cheered for the browns is really on. We're talking about burn because our Webster slaughter all of that. And what they took the team away it was all bills that they came back. I was going to be all about the browns I decide. And my goal at these huge huge shell animal I don't remember what -- -- might have been Rochester. I decided. I was gonna get it Tim Couch rookie guard and I was super super pumped about -- eight Tim Couch rookie guard that we are not getting anything. But eight Tim Couch rookie card today at the shell. I don't care if Michael -- rookie card is being sold for a dollar I'm kidding. Tim Couch so we went from table to table to table to table. Looking at every -- Tim Couch rookie card and I finally found the one that I liked at the price that I liked. And I think he wanted to roaming out the window the ban went home. It just it took all day and both of us were exhausted but I've finally found. The Tim Couch rookie card one and -- all proud that's worth now nothing. But it's a member right and that's what that's what from listening to the show and being part of the shell for the last year. What I've really taken it is more than anything more than anything more than -- money war and the chase. It's all about. The memories it's all about what you can take with you what you did talk about. How you got this -- that I mean I remember. Going way back at Jim Cali woods. Maybe I spent twenty times in malls Jim Kelly was signing autographs maybe a -- it is like seniors or something. And my dad said let's golf let's ease in Rochester he's our house that's kind of where I grew up. Let's let's tell it won't be too bad we'll get there early. -- it was that that. There was just thousands and thousands of people backed up for Jim Kelly to sign autographs and so it took. Took my football and my grandpa came along and he brought his football which also had OJ Simpson's signature on it. And we all went and stood it was my brother and I and again my -- we all stood in line for Jim Kelly's autograph. Four I don't know. Must have been three or four hours we finally get to -- and Jim says to me. -- -- -- And at age maybe six or seven that was probably the coolest thing that it had ever happened in my life so. The autograph you know -- still evident home. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- I see that football go back to my my parents' house. And I think that. Those -- things that I would like to carry. I don't really have that the time in the money to commit say the way that Mike does I don't know it's time but at least his money. Because he's a big rich WGR personality right. You know he's he's got he's got the dime. To spend a year there on an item that he wants and he also knows how to turn things around itself I don't know how to do that really well either. -- I think. As is like -- forward and as I've you know I don't know as they may be fine -- to be on more important here around here and pay me a little more go somewhere out. I think I wanna get back into. And I think that that's the reason why and even going forward in life 25 now but going forward and like say. Who knows kids would -- if if I do you have kids. I think that's a great way to share. I experiences in time together is by taking your kids son or daughter whenever there into the sort of thing. And getting an autograph at a baseball game. I mean we would go to the table in my dog games you know the thirteen that that I actually worked for now. We go to those games and all the players we just line up and sign autographs at the end of the game. When I was watching last summer that do play by play for them watching last summer. I'm thinking and you know what. These guys. They do it because it's just kind of a thing like. You know we should probably sign the autographs words well -- single season whatever you know we're not a big deal which probably sign. -- -- there signing for. I mean it's really. Freaking cool. And I think that you know if you're a parent and you take your kid in Batavia mocked on who you was apparent no isn't a big deal that your kid. And -- he gets an autograph. I think that that would really that would really mean something if you as a -- So I think going forward even -- I'm not so much into it now I think going forward that I would really like to get into. All that being said I'm getting all sappy right why the hell are ninety's -- not worth anything. I really thought I really thought at like age -- I don't know give me like sixty. That might Dominic -- rookie would be like. Worth a million dollars I really thought that it would be -- So much money that I wouldn't have to pay for college it was the coolest -- of all time. And it's worth nothing I looked it up on -- like Michael he says and it's worth like. Who dollars if you get the highest bidder ever. I had a Barry Sanders repeat mayor Sanders is like my favorite player in the NFL when I was like ten. I thought all man when I open up that pack up buries it all. That's the good stuff there Sanders. I am rich. Roll roll around in the money in my money. And it's worth. Two dollars. It's really disheartening I know why it is it's supply and demand it's pretty simple there's way too many Dan Barry Sanders rookies floating out there everybody's got. Everybody thought -- have money. But it's really disappointing. It's really disappointing to to look at that card and just think. Yeah Berry you're great it's not worth anything and I know Mike mentioned this before I totally agree with it. It stinks for the player to Mary Sanders could be one of the five best NFL players of all time and we can debate that'll -- let's just say. I mean clearly one of the top five running taxable. And Joe Brown who might be the number one running back all time his cards are worth. If you have it Jim Brown signed rookie card you're gonna bring in a -- thousands. If you're a Barry Sanders signed rookie card you would be lucky if the homeless guy in the corner took it from me. It's worth nothing and I think if -- Barry Sanders I'm sure Barry Sanders has got lots of money doesn't care about this but you gotta think. -- -- kind of stinks. I was just as good as Jim Brown. And Mike Hart is not worth anything or at least maybe that's how I would that's all I would look at it because. Maybe on his name like that. Is he the type of guy. That. You wanna buy his Jersey. Or by his rookie card if you're a sabres -- And I really think that. It kind of digs in to the basic reasons why we decide. To pick out players to say represent our friend. When you decide on a player like give me an example you go to on a first Niagara center you see all sorts of Paul -- that. Of course he was traded now in you don't see -- it's a first round pick on the back but -- at least you shouldn't that be Jersey fail. You see Paul -- that now obviously Paul -- bad. It is not winning any you know trophies he's he's not gonna be the best scorer in the NHL is going to be the best scorer on the team. But he represents the way that we view sports. People who whereupon lost managers are saying something to you they're saying to you I like the gritty. I liked the guy who's under rated who's gonna get down and dirty that's my guy I think. It's kind of a Buffalo Sabres -- rate. Is like a guy like Paul -- -- Patrick a lot of the guys who don't necessarily get all the glory nationally but only if you're sabres and can you really appreciate their role. I mean for example that the penalty -- and drew the other night. Was just in jeans. I mean the the -- comes up towards face he totally flops down on the ice like a dead fish. And the penalty it's called with four minutes left in the game that's two minutes you know that you know the -- -- And it probably should have been a penalty and he didn't lead by he got the penalty and we appreciate that and I think when you put latter's name on your back you say. I appreciate that. And I think that's kind of cool want to get more into tennis and especially the Cody Hodgson question. But you wanna do it because for various amount of reasons I mean first of all. The clear one you support the team. The jerseys look really good I mean since the -- is gone they look really good they're great they're great look and -- Carry around on your back. And the other part of it is that I think. For most people you pick a player that is particularly special to you outside of one that I see a lot around the arena. Is -- derby. That's in a lot of people love. And respect the finger be because of his size because of effort. Because of the way -- skates hard every single time on the ice and you think you don't want. I want that guy represented me is -- fan because that's type of player that I like. So what do you do with -- -- do you buy his Jersey to say I love this move I support this guy. I I'm big I'm behind Cody hot and 100%. Despite the fact that he's number nineteen which was Tim Connolly number. So assuming you're not one of the guys who puts duct tape over the back and just write -- You could be sing to the organization it's all other fans. Are behind this guy I love this move. -- More than likely not investing -- -- right away you want to see Cody Hodgson. Prove something to you you want to see him score a couple goals make a couple of great plays. Really don't get into a scrap the couple Buffalo Sabres that's what you wanna see before. You put his name. On -- back. There's -- part of this to bill when it comes to deciding whose Jersey by. You also look at contracts. I hate to say that because it feels soul like Cole right -- Who cares about his contract he's the man. You really have to impulse bought that is the perfect example. I mean. If you're trying to decide you don't sound that some. Team shop -- trying to decide. Whose Jersey in my got to put on my back I love the way Paul -- then plays that guys don't wander rated. He wins the big faceoff he gets dirty he's gritty. In any thing. But he's a free agent. So we might not be here next year and he whole cell might get treated. It's a risk you take an and I think I don't from my experiences by injuries that when the guy gets traded. It's devastating to me like. I haven't bought a Jersey in quite some time but I remember particularly. A -- cash Jersey and I. And I just like everybody else was just huge huge huge fan Patrick. Really love the guy. And when he got traded. It was like. What do I do with this now you might sell it somewhere to like Jews. Use it for napkins. -- why do it is it's not I don't care about there's no attachment to it he plays for another team. So I think that when you're considering New Jersey. When let's say you're considering Cody that's -- -- contract. And you looked at -- he's going to be here for this year or next year. And then he's a restricted free agent which usually means that they're gonna work out a deal that got his stick around -- bank. And that's not a bad investment. If you're looking down the sabres roster now there's one guy sticks out. By far to me as the most obvious choice. To buy Jersey there's only one it's tiny little setback as it's Tyler Myers. Tyler Myers has a gargantuan contract. He has hall of fame caliber -- You know that this guy isn't going anywhere and and clearly we saw from the trade deadline and leading up to. The Tyler Myers is untouchable. As he should be. -- so few players in history of the game that are like Tyler Myers his size his skating his scoring ability. End. -- -- -- He's going to be -- At some point you have to figure he's going to be kept that that's your only takeaways that's the only bad thing about investing in Tyler Myers is Jersey now. Is that eventually that thing's gonna have a seat on and you think. Wallop along with a seat on. So honestly about this last night about which player with sticks out to be mean band next going to be here for awhile palm and bill's going to be here for awhile. But Myers could be year franchise player for just a long long time. Just think about this also for the Buffalo Bills. The Buffalo Bills it's almost impossible. You don't know what's gonna happen -- Ryan Fitzpatrick necessarily. A couple years on the road Fred Jackson I mean he could be gone after this year -- notes right. CJ Spiller you saw a glimpse of greatness by you know who knows how long it's gonna last in on defense just forget about it the worst defense late sell. Who or what Nick Barnett. I mean Nick Barnett is going to be you know probably on his way to retirement the next couple years. -- -- spend that much money and Nick Barnett so I was thinking who is the guy to get if you're a bills fan. And the only guy that stuck out to me. It all depends on what's gonna happen in the next couple weeks here Stevie Johnson. Stevie Johnson would be your guide to buy his Jersey if he signs a long term contract. As you know he's gonna be around. You know he's going to be a borderline Pro Bowl player probably your number one wide receiver. I know that people don't necessarily believe he is a quote number one but. You've got to figure he's going to be the bills' number one wide receiver in the guy's got a great personality I know all. I know about the celebrating in the end zone and all that stuff but we have them on the air every single week here. During -- for the -- show throughout. You know throw the football season. And the guy has a great personality and comes off as. -- classy overall person despite a couple of touchdown dances one of which probably shouldn't have even been penalized. I'm not apologizing for I'm just saying. So he's guide that you want to represent you because that's another part of its. You deal. Some some fans will go for this I I would not be one of those -- I would not be the type of -- that would goal for a player. Who has. Off the ice off the field. Stuff. I don't want my guy getting arrested the guy whose Jersey I'm wearing I don't I don't want him out. In you know in the bars causing trouble I don't want to have a bad reputation. Because I'm representing him. When I put on his Jersey maybe over thinking this I probably am but. I think it's a consideration. And if you're gonna buy of its -- teachers. Say that might be wanting your top considerations. Because even if he's not the long term solution is the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills. Each agreed to. Right I mean he he is one of the most incredible stories. In all sports. Like Jeremy -- before Jeremy -- That's Ryan Fitzpatrick last year first 56 weeks incredible story. So he's he's the other one and you know I thought of this. The one other player I thought if he can stay healthy disguise pro bowler no -- is Eric what. He's a whole little like Paul boss dad of the Buffalo Bills is Eric what. Hard working guy. Awesome player never gonna get he's probably better than Paul Boston. Sliding scale but. Never gonna get the -- That he deserves. For his good as he has. And that seems very very buffalo fans and to me I mean you just look at the way that buffalo fans celebrating tenth hole. If Stevie Johnson doesn't sign the big long term concentrating its franchise tag forget about it. And Ryan Fitzpatrick. Great guy somebody that you don't underdog that she would kinda want to represented you. Blood you don't know how long he's going to be here no we got the long term deal but guaranteed money only lasts for so long so you never know how that's gonna -- they're gonna. Draft somebody to replace -- could even happen this year. Buddy nix is saying now now we're not gonna do that whichever now because teams say a lot of crap. -- speaking of Ryan Fitzpatrick and underdogs. I was thinking about Jeremy -- last night because Magic Johnson on ESPN is talking about them he says you know home -- just doesn't. Continues to be this popular even if he continues to be a very good player. Even if just bring a -- even if Ryan Fitzpatrick had continued his pace last season and the bills that made the playoffs. You work and hear about his underdog story every single week after a YL. People would kind of had enough so I pulled through eBay last night I found. Some decent prices on him 70800. Dollars for some signed rookie cards nothing like the 20000 dollars. And so I had a lot you know if you're gonna get it on something like this. Which wanna do is in really early like Tim Tebow becomes a starter it's his first win. -- -- You know I mean Stephen Strasburg. His first start in the minor leagues and he blows people away or in the major leagues -- say blows people away and he strikes out sixteen batters by now. I know it didn't work out perfectly for Strasburg if it doesn't work out perfectly figured out that much. But if you buy at the peak of the -- insanity of the Strasburg mania or whatever they call -- that. Then. You're buying you're buying too high and it's more likely that the stars gonna -- of course Strasburg very good player. And his could come back up Tebow just for example. It's hard to see that guy long term being a great NFL starting quarterback so when Tebow sanity or whatever is going on. T blown not to whack a mania. Is is sort of get the feeling -- you can kind of get that feel. Just by watching ESPN booking on Twitter and the -- to get that feeling. Want more people are talking about this guy maybe I'll go on to eBay and find something cheaper it is. That a couple weeks later I'll be able.
