Bills general manager buddy -- buddy thanks for joining us today. Let me just make sure we've got you all right there we go -- well let's just start off. I know you can't talk about players and in particular I know that that there's rules are roundly but. You know. I wanna take it back to media thing you said to our morning guys Howard and Jeremy one day when they ask you about the the level of aggressiveness that that this team like having a free agent period. You said. In years past that that would that you would just the bills would kind of you know wait and see what was out there are a little bit after the first day's bloody past and but the big swarm -- what. This year he said if there's a playmaker out there. You won't be at all you know you won't show any remorse and in going after I mean is that. The type of mindset you're looking at today I mean I know I know it's and what's refreshing for. And that's exactly where we are. You know the first couple years. What we need it was numbers we made it yet. Good core players hit to fields and and I think we've done it over this two year created that wind laughs then. Show and as much as we'd like for two bit. We think we're at a point if if we can they'll a couple of needs in free agency that are. Play makers at them. With a good draft class get a gas back healthy -- wing wing made a factor. Now I know. You can't talk about individual players but. Certain players on the team certainly have been talking a bigger game to to some of the free agents out there and Steve he's been reaching out to. Particular player that you're familiar with the Shawne Merriman has done the same. Mean how do you feel about your players trying to. In you know feeling like. That they have such a backing from the front office that they can go out and do that sort of thing I mean does that Ali that they do that or or what what what do you think of all that. You know I love it I think it's great I mean if you've got jazz take care enough about eighteen to try to recruit. You know we don't. We don't let them decide who we're going actor like but to know that they would. Travis Alan and I believe and our program and and and they won't good players here I think gets I think that's great. -- -- -- Yesterday on Twitter I -- some of the my followers descendants of questions if they wanted to ask you know my idea it was to maybe and each segment with a question but. One of the questions I thought was great and it kind of sets a tone so I wanted to ask -- first and Joseph static on Twitter east yes. Every year I'm excited about the bills free agency. Every year I'm disappointed. Why should I think differently this year. You know I think he had this need to wait a week or two NC. Yet even tellem. And they've heard this so much about what we're -- My lap. Theory is to try to. Do it and instead -- talk about doing that I think. I think we can make some headway in free agency and tried to explain while ago that jazz that we picked up I mean -- I think -- -- -- cannot think about nick -- -- You know rat heart -- -- gas. Appears better. Good solid players force they don't excite defiance. We were encouraged a couple of times to go away after some really big name gas. That -- the market but am tenure that is not the way to go -- -- -- -- fans here and now she. It's a big disappointment come October. What's a successful first day for you guys were getting closer -- four course you're sitting here thus it's not like -- burning phone lines are shuffling papers right now. So I'm guessing that things are. You've done your research and -- kind of week for four or. 330 or whatever she didn't physician but what's a successful first day for you and then what it what will be a successful. Period free agency. The entire period. With back to be out of business by frat. Now that would be successful. And we. We got a chance to do that. When I say out have been this said that Maine if a Jack came available in June our first part of camp. That we wouldn't go after misty failed a -- force we would. That that big. That the big splash day with us. Will probably. -- be over what do you feel that's because you need to act fast given the climate in the NFL with the market as you see it. Or is that more in an internal decision or do you think that in today's NFL you have to. Get in there and can get it done in a certain period of time you know lot after rankled some of these guys you did. You know I'm not again if if we weren't interested in and some that are available. I wouldn't you know I -- I would mean me I've been doing I'd be -- looking at. Pro workout -- draft forecasts. But. We we are interested in some it would go go after him and now and years by Ashley and now -- obviously you you can only talking generalities like. The the depth of a couple of positions in particular I mean. Two positions that have been widely floated around that that you guys are dissident won one ever want. Almost everyone in the organization has set his pass rusher how would you assess the depth of the free agency class at that position. Well I think you've got different phases. I think -- three -- -- gas that. Are probably in this first group. And in -- you've got some metal guys that are going. Sadly and that's going basin has announced it 4 o'clock. It freeagent see this going shocks some -- -- let him go our main players. There's. -- there's some teams that went into this year thinking that the cap was going to be more after the CB it. Kept to have them in our gas kept telling us it was going to be flat. And and it has been so I thank you actually some. I think you'll see some shocker released for. And what about -- the wide receiver position as well -- know that was a particularly deep. Class of free agent wide receivers they deliver deeper before you guys respond Stevie but right. Just general and generalize what. That type market likely I you know I think he's good in. Wide receiver. And running back is always that numbers and it and whether it's in the draft or whether it's in free agency. They just a lot of up and more. Teams are using more work so you've got you got more guys that are. Subject to being cut and let go. When you evaluate your roster and its needs. And you determine what you need to do to fill certain spots heading into the 2012 season. Where do you -- to what degree do you categorize this is a draft need. This is a free agency need and how closely. You know -- thank you I think that way it goes but Karl's one comes before they there. That you've got a chance to. You -- rexrodt after all is many needs EG can and freeagent. And then. Failing him with the draft that's the way we try to do that because free agency comes first so. If you got a pressing need at a position. You'd try to fit in free agency in the -- came in that's got to be a concentration in the draft is that always been the case or is that another thing that has maybe. Change this year as opposed to when you're in the building blocks phase maybe. Everybody's a draft consideration whereas now the emphasis it shifted more to free agency you know I. I think you're probably. Right about that it we're. When we started we had so many places to fail like -- and our emphasis on numbers. But now I think we're to the point if we can't. Again to elect up needs in free agency and then have a good draft we wouldn't be a factor toward being. Now -- You have to that you guys have to feel like you're pretty close I mean. Resigning for guys in five days I mean. Three of which are will probably be starters for for this team next year. You have to feel like you're pretty close and and media is that why there's a little bit more talk of of a -- media more aggressive mindset heading into a day like today. You know I think -- but -- also ahead this in man. Six months ago may be a year ago that we were going to be more aggressive in free agency that's. This is our third year coming up and it's ten. It could be a factor and we've got to do whatever it takes in all I care about women I'm not trying to. To do anything else are satisfied in need go around this war we wanna see the meals -- If I can ask it divisional question because it's obvious is the big story in the NFL right now is Peyton Manning his tour -- making. The Miami Dolphins one of the teams that he visited with then when the whole process started I think a lot of people if they had a bad. Were say that he's headed to Miami I exchanged a little bit but. As a team the F -- twice a year. How are you monitoring that situation. I have no I don't know how this come out probably not very good but I don't scare me. I mean he don't scare us and I don't I don't worry about yet we don't we don't we we priced Tom Brady twice a year. Throw pipe and then we just we need to get to the parish. Now regarding the Peyton Manning or decision like this and and we could even take -- many to name out discussion needed just label him as any player coming off a significant injury. That it teams some -- Whether it's the dolphins at cardinals Broncos whomever is gonna throw a lot of money. From a managerial standpoint what are your general thoughts. Committing so much cap room to a guy. That you maybe haven't even seen throw the ball yet and is that may be attractive for you is somebody who works for -- different team in the NFL you know to go ahead and go ahead and sink a bunch of money into it into somebody we will we'll spend our money obviously a little differently Aggie and I think it's just a different philosophy remember. You know Donovan McNabb have them in case some of these gas they'd like to go with the older -- That's not our mindset. We we -- rather. Use our money in a different way I got great respect of Peyton Manning I've been watching him since he's a freshman in college you know he's. That things he's done is is phenomenal it reminds me a little bit. Except for that a chip that the situation we ran in San Diego would drew birdies when we had the injury and the doctors couldn't tell us for sure he'd be. Healthy and you go up to put all your money -- You know -- again NASA decision other things have to -- got me at least. For us but he said something in passing when talking about the Manning. He said you wanna get to the -- back -- one talk about the court you like get to the cornerback is it fair for fans out there were very excited about today. To expect the bills to go hard after a defenseman that Beckham's coming. Well opt out -- -- at that a lot of times one of our big needs in. If we we go -- at one place. Put it that. What are your thoughts on the I'm calling it the RG three trade because it already knows what's happening but do you have which are valuation on that it obviously if blockbuster trade. An unusually early in the process usually those -- happen a lot closer to the draft but. You know that big politics that Washington shipped to saint Lewis would your general thoughts. Well there again and I think keys is a different philosophy we're here I hate to give up but draft it's. Six Rampage -- lack given a mop up lanky Leo most things. But Washington made the decision it. One of those gas was a quarterback was going -- their franchise GAAP for the future. Sometimes you only have -- two chances to get that. You know again have I wouldn't do it back. I can see why they -- it. -- -- Scanner about gamble that you put in you stock -- dads is never played it down and a failure. Today they look black both of them are going but he really good players. You don't know. What's the rest your afternoon like leading up to 4 o'clock we have an idea what you're gonna. Can you give us tonight and itinerary the -- -- You know it's it's busy and yet we do have -- What's it. Can you may be for the person who. Doesn't protested an NFL front office Joseph and myself included. What are the calls or is it to your scouting department are you getting calls from agents are you getting calls from other teams are you. Trying to find out of somebody's gonna cut somebody in the what's always a little early for that. That will start to the war but. Here's what we did our pro department -- Gibbons in the pro. Pro dads. They. They take every. Free -- First -- got every club's roster wall. Works. You take every freeagent off of the board and rank them in positions. Put him up that position after team race again. The and you move him back on their -- on their -- if somebody else and and you but -- worry go -- you can look at dad and say. Whose. Scale there and you got him right back great -- great neighbor but ultimately. Avery years sometimes twice a year spreads in -- to be so that ranking in at least is what we know. And then let the chips fall and it tries to be you try to make it into the scientific of a process that you can read it which it and it never is he. It never is you know -- you you hear people you know and a lot of times. They say free agencies lack recruiting you winding down them take them out to a nice restaurant you put -- -- and you short smallest effort. Travis alum like recruiting but he comes down with a player to about three things one is. -- -- play and -- yet. Who he's playing for. And that -- got teams to. Now I said no straight but to mine when it's funny how she's -- a saying I left what well it's odd bit -- their intention that money is first obviously. And and all this other. Bells and whistles. You know it's nice in their comfortable and you appreciate it -- they get meals neck thing but that's not what sales. Well buddy thank you for taking the time -- I know it's a busy day for you. And talking with us for the past fifteen minutes and no bills fans are really really geared up about this just judgment based off three election between herself we wanted to thank you for us. Hope it works act it hopefully still excited it it in the -- Thank you -- thank you gonna.
