And of winter sports rate now and it is just hard to believe that it's gone by so fast it we're going to be talk about baseball and softball lacrosse. Very soon -- fact I'm pretty sure they start up was that this upcoming week for based. Did last Monday last Monday I believe so yeah we just completed her first week of practice is over there Riverside Charles. -- -- -- I love the sound of that I think if what you're you know you'd. Not only great football coach which are also now lending your channels to look cross and trying to build up a program within the city of Buffalo. As one of the fastest growing sports at the risen nationally and I know it's super huge here. In Western New York so let's talk about what's with scorn on with awful cross. Well off and we're excited. Last year we started the program the sort of like an expansion club team. Are participating in the ideal -- Who conference that the GP program. This year we. Moved to I didn't traitor she where schedules with. Fourteen adversity in fourteen or twelve GT games this year. So we're excited out quickly it's grown over periods and Buffalo win and I'll tell you what it as if sixty sure are very now on the field so I mean there's a big interest in lacrosse from the awful public schools and it's only gonna get bigger. Are you right about that -- you talk about -- when he talked to the kids there's a buzz they love the game. They -- fouled the bandits they they want to. You know they wanna get out there and play and it's a lot of fun and and now your offering an opportunity for four city kids. To get out there and kids who have never even held a stick before and now you get their teach them the basics and get them involved in this wonderful game. Yeah I think just the way that you put it I think started with may be debated and how successful they were in the indoor. And you know -- -- you got to reach out to. You know former superintendent Derrick Williams and obviously athletic director. Aubrey Lloyd in Howell they really push to expand the athletics in the Buffalo public schools. And you know from the city's standpoint the kid's standpoint. I think to get an eye opener there's obviously a big difference between indoor box for cross in the field across. And then you don't just the community itself there was a group that reached out arbor Lloyd helped him out that was a city lacrosse. And that was groups spread the Wiki my -- in Angels cement. The former Buffalo bandits and I think I played -- -- Philadelphia or someone like that. Are and those three gentlemen in robbery got together and. You know we started talking about lacrosse. I expressed -- way back when I hit -- cross background first certain Greg Grand Island and then. Start the program already store away -- went so. You know it wasn't -- Mathis -- -- And between everybody just coming together. We're we're just excited where the program's grown and you know which ultimately get hit section six within the next year to. The biggest thing in -- -- It's start that the modified level or a little bit younger than -- at the opry is -- started without summer camps and were gonna continue on. In June with a more camps for -- for the Buffalo public school kids. And they are off free. And you know -- -- usual these kids start early. It's nothing but successful in her way. Today it sure is young -- match you gain a great turn out to kids are excited about this. You get practices gone and I won't you'll we will promote those camps when we get close to them. Come summertime. No what other information I mean is to wait for any kids who might be listening right now to our -- and and decide that they do wanna play. No no not at all I mean first of all it means did we hear quipped to have had about 75 kids so. You don't any -- -- -- wanna come out they obviously need to sports physical on the need to get their Monday over it to. Riverside athletic complex and not. You don't obviously will take care of it from there but if it's open invitation I don't. At the high school level I don't believe it cut anybody so I mean if I have 6570. Kids that means -- is going to be a lot of repetition Goldman you know. Excellent well you know the wanting to -- people realizes how important sports is too especially for the city of Buffalo. Where you have such high absentee rate didn't low graduation rate. Sports is what keeps a lot of kids who. Maybe you've decided that two. You don't school and drop out but this keeps them focused on school keeps them in the class. You know like 88 I hope a lot of people realize that Tony it's -- it's such a strong statement but it's. It's an absolute true statement some of these kids have nothing else in their lives. But but they athletics you know one tragically. You know it is what it is -- it in the area but you know I mean in in Buffalo gets deny that you know most press about -- And I talked a few other teachers in different areas of need different districts. And you know they are struggling to get kids to come to school fortune unfortunately. But at the high population in the district I mean obviously Wheatley of higher numbers than most but you know athletics is. Is almost a way out for a lot of these kids -- you know and they dedicate themselves. Just a little bit I think you're gonna find that they have a purpose they tell me -- you got a purpose to do well. We have one of the strongest or most difficult. An academic eligibility rules in the area. And you know it's not just shot to class you're eligible and these kids get to thinking certain grade point averages and you know. The kids circuit -- dragged. It's do better start quoted that after school tutoring programs and hit the weights finally you know it means so. It is it is a benefit. In -- public schools are introducing I'll be in sports. Special across. I think just like I said way back -- in three to five years you're gonna see staging. All across maybe not three to five years. But you're gonna see a lot of success grown with the Mary and you know that concern with the athletics. Now that's it's awesome and that the war the more if there is -- more opportunities that there are for the kids the better it is for not only education. The varsity level on the TV level it it takes a lot of time a lot of effort to maintain a program and especially at the level that north title and it was that. And just things weren't working out in. You know was time to make a change there -- so you know where our staff it is just elected not to. Re apply for the position it's a shame because I mean their. You know the amount worked at that staff put in especially over the time that put there and you know just. It wasn't meant to be and it's a shame because there's a lot of great kids and a program. On the kids are terrific they work hard. You know our coaching staff. Worked incredibly -- it caught me if finally caught me mean a lot of people don't realize outside of the program and you know people like to poke and prod at football and -- L football gets everything football is. You know I -- for all really works mean and obviously without coverage they get. And today it's certainly it's do justice and if it it too well that -- how much effort that staff put in and it's tough to eliminate yet young you -- young families at home Chris just had you know and another young kid. I'm Rick Scott three under five so to be able to maintain that program and you know it has to go through seamlessly and it wasn't going through seamless and some occasions and it. You know it was really unfortunate because those guys that are pre coaches mean it's it's a tremendous step it's no secret this amount of success they had. When I went in there I went. I went into the office before the -- point game this year. And I looked at their defensive game plan you know the game plan and the computer it was 43 pages long. And it just really wild I mean it's a while I mean it. You know just amount of effort that they put in and you know again it has to go through seamless and you know wasn't going through seamless though. You know it just it was not meant to be you know. You know what are the issues that I had heard about was the fact that the coaching staff was not allowed to have keys to the weight room and I don't know how people or expect you to build strong program if you can't have the opportunity or. To dictate when the kids are gonna get into the weight room and these guys know how important it is for kids to. Work out and train him to coaches don't have who who'd you go through workout -- The the athletic director has accused -- so she opens up and closes up the weight room. I mean I don't -- Iraq and kids get -- -- I mean kids get in there they get in their four days a week they got their four. You know required lifts -- to have to get in there for that was part of our program protocol and I mean so they were able to get in there assisted it's tough. You know it's it's a perception thing Martin and. Good luck to coach -- town and the rest of the staff -- -- was Welsh on a tremendous work that you guys did do there. And hopefully they're able to in north town wanted to be able to find. A replacement coaches be able to. Build on the success there and he's had from your team team Annan. And I and I and I do too because you know whoever gets that position outside mandate they got a lot of talent that program -- we you know it it's. It's tough because we haven't had to tell -- some of our other opponents but we've done well in. At a younger age and -- they got they got a lot of good things don't for himself.
