Hi everybody good morning I'm Mike show this is the hobby on WG our new show going to be here. And not that you care but just to say at the other day because it would have been Wednesday Cayman. The sabres had played Toronto Tuesday night it was a big game and a lot of energy was expended. At the arena I was into it. Yelling or talking at least a little bit more than usual cute and -- -- little -- -- I thought well does that make sense to me was really doing that much. And screaming or anything like that. I hadn't been out particularly late couldn't really figure out I think maybe allergies now today it's because I was out so if I sound a little weird just you know. Which -- bar voice. Last night I went to see. My friend Greg -- -- Performs standup comedy that mr. good bar also Dan -- from WGR was there and some other people Brian Brady. The people that you know probably if you -- to that scene and I'm only into it wants in a while only been a couple times C Greg. But able to do it and I got there and it was pretty much closed because it was full. So. Upstairs. You know guys were on stage in -- packed room. And I'm downstairs you know lonely boy just kind of waiting for something to change eventually to get in NC Greg and I was glad about that. But it ended up being a really late night and others that story. So -- -- As I've mentioned on the show. You know of course. A when I started getting back into collecting six years ago I guess now was. IE did not think I would ever be collecting autographs. But I started to collect autographs released not because I had a change of heart about that. Just mostly because. -- -- started to meet some people and develop some connections in this and there would be good. Buying opportunities it seemed to me and also. In terms of autograph jerseys I like the idea of displaying them they look good on on my ball. So I started collecting collecting those and once in -- think about. By C a show while roster like for instance. Robert Griffin RG three was. Signing last weekend in Virginia. I thought well you know what I want him on a Jersey your urges while fireworks it by his autograph and of course the many ailments that I've talked about a lot on the show. So coming up at in the beginning of August. It's this year is they call the national the biggest sports card show there is this -- in Baltimore. And I know that some of you listen to the show them have been to the national and probably are planning on going this year and I looked at the autograph line up. For the national assuming it to be great. And I wasn't disappointed me giving example. I ate my first. Baseball team that I love with since -- was the Cincinnati Reds. It's because. My mom is from southern Ohio and my grandparents -- big baseball fans and its -- You know got into the game so I started as a reds fan just after the big red machine the the 79 team that. Won the NL west and then. Lost to Pittsburgh in the playoffs if you're under the age of thirty elect once. Cincinnati the NL west losing to Pittsburgh in the playoffs -- is some kind of a fantasy league is this PlayStation. 1979. That's what happened and that was my team with the reds Dave Collins was on the team wasn't quite the machine the machine from 75. Of course a legendary. Ball club and you know if you know baseball you can do the mean you can do the the lineup of the Cincinnati -- -- Matthews a young guy meant -- collar but I'm guessing. Who's gonna. You know the pressure on match -- I'm guessing that you could name. At least six of the eight position players. The regulars on the 75 rats when -- be right. Second base. Right center and right purity got six. Cesar Geronimo and senator Ken Griffey senior. In right. -- stop right with the excuses. -- you didn't know every player in the lineup of baseball team from 37 years ago I'm not mad. I don't know if I could give you all of it but -- I mean I know that team I would give you most of it dongle it. Late Kirby Jack Gillingham. It clay Carol the two plays. So anyway thing about you know how long ago that was 1975. And you know your reds fan and you thinking you know the national media and maybe eleven Baltimore -- and that ideas collector whatever the case may be hate. Johnny Bench is gonna be there I might you don't wanna get an autographed Jersey of Johnny venture. Joseph Morgan or whatever they're all those guys we mentioned will be at that show all of them. Like all -- a bomber going to be either 37 years after they won the World Series old's gonna hang out the same room and sign autographs today. That's so cool I love that whole. Lineup is going to be at this show. And it's it doesn't stop there it's Ripken and Brooks Robinson Frank Robinson Weaver Palmer -- Baltimore fan -- like set for life with autographs. Cardinals' Bob Gibson hers dog Ozzie Smith. I -- just. The baseball names at this thing Rickey Henderson Reggie Jackson Fiske DOS it yeah I'll do this from memory and probably only getting. Nearly half the guys on the west. So it's gonna be it's gonna be big hockey you've got to Ovechkin and howl football Barry Sanders the road and beat the nationally can't wait. And I'm thinking about with the reds -- the best way any ideas are from above to hear them the best. -- to collect those autographs like on a the Jersey doesn't really work because whose Jersey on a ball I guess is okay that might be the most common is there a better way. -- thinking would there be an overhead. Picture. Of the of the reds. On the field in the World Series against Boston may -- game seven like is there a picture those guys from the press box. Say on the field and then maybe guys would sign them. By you know there by themselves on the picture. And I don't know any prices yet but I'm guessing guessing three to 400 box for all of them that might -- -- -- bench or mortgage or rose. Might normally run a 10250. Or even higher perhaps. Each so I wonder. I wonder what will be but that's a that's a curiosity for me for sure. Speaking of baseball autographs and talk about Albert Pujols today. And maybe Mariano Rivera got some some things to say. And I've also. Of course I'd also -- to take some calls and that number is 8030550. Again -- three. All 550 if you've got to comment or question about collecting and we get all kinds of them I'm glad to have an economic question. That you might have hopefully I can give an answer. So rules. Last night Albert Pujols for scheme for the angels he was hitless the angels won five -- nothing Jered Weaver. Is great Jered Weaver does not get a lot of attention I would say. But I saw a -- from -- -- of ESPN yesterday that Weaver is the first pitcher. Since the mid seventies to have two years in a rowers ER -- at home was under two. The last pitcher to do that is franks and and a by the way according to -- only 7677. And Weaver was he was on the mound last night for the angels he is their race and he was you know too good for Kansas City. Paulson atlas in the game I would love a conversation. With any baseball fan who might wanna call in and and engage with me on this. I'm not exactly sure why but I just don't find Albert Pujols that interest thing. And I probably should. If you're a baseball fan you probably should. You know what be in awe of him I guess. Any kinda. Trivia question. About players who did this or that by a certain age assuming that they have over Powell's age right. Rob dire by the way -- -- if you follow baseball probably he told he wants on on the air on ESPN that he questioned Powell's age. Maybe that's where everybody does I don't know but. Any -- that should be a question like that. Who has this many home runs or this many years leading a league in the in batting average or whenever. Albert Pujols is always an answer those questions he has then write the best hitter in the game for. 510 years like even know I just. For as much as I love baseball I'd never have latched on Albert Pujols. And it's probably my fault. Of course a lot of fans. You know dig him and to to give -- some illustration of that in terms of card collecting. His autograph in his rookie card largest as you may know there are monsters. An autograph from two losses a couple hundred bucks at least. And he probably signs. Are probably signs. A good amount of baseballs and different things you know I don't. I don't know that for sure maybe he doesn't -- I've got to think he signs you know he's active. So -- autographs out there but it's sort of -- -- Two or three year maybe even more than that hundred dollars to get them how about the rookie card. Again get approvals or give you Mariano Rivera which you know is. A comparison that if you really know -- collecting probably roll your eyes that because of that the the years of the cards but Albert Pujols 2001. Autograph bowl when chrome number the 500. As a 4000 dollar card. 4000 box in that neighborhood EC grated ones and not there was packet nine. About it you know want to attend in nine relief for 2001 it's -- okay great but it's not that good collectors are looking for 95 usually. Nine point 54. Grand was the selling price of that car at a nine mean. That's -- -- number to 500 outnumbered ten. So anyway our rules that big Rivera and that brought him into it. For reasons and archer of even now 1992. Rivera and this is an interesting I'll make a point about grating from this. Raw 36 dollars recently sold on them on eBay 36 blocks for Rivera. And a 165. Dollars. In PS or knowing Beckett excuse me Beckett nine point five great now. That's interesting I think and that that's a good example. To me of of of of. Why you -- greater Cardin and in what circumstances. You'd wanna do it in this is the most. Common question I get. It's usually from people who have some basic. Understanding of the hobby urges or some some background knowledge in it. Bill I get the question all the time way into I want agreed card so even though I've I've answered that. Before on the show I'm inclined answered again and talk about it a little bit again. With this Rivera card brought up and also because it might even help last weekend but. The representative from Beckett had bases loaded brings and was here last weekend and you can imagine he'll be back in you know you don't need him to be in town. To have a -- graded by. The Rivera rookie 1992. It's not anything special it's a white border. And you know you'll have centering issues with the car go a little bit but it's not like you know we're talking about. It'll PG -- from the sixties or something not drastic. But. You have that card and you ask me to my great excuse me. Two migrated I would probably say no. Because there are so many of them and it's still kind of a recent car I would not be inclined to -- Just at the at the beginning but as subtle as the differences would be in this slight. A nine is going to be much less valuable than a nine point five and if your card is closer to perfect. You know you'd you'd have you need it -- die for this I suppose but. You know you could ask for some advice a dealer can help you put a collector -- whoever. To know that the differences and he still pistol just guessing it's subjective. But that's a pretty big. Price jump would would you would you agree from 36 dollars to a 165 dollars for a card that new. So that's an example of when you'd of course wanna do it usually for me they're just a couple of a couple of things that would cause me to get a card graded unless. There's of the yen. You know you wanna do it of course if Vick can help the value and that's. A relatively new car that is you know. Again pretty much perfect it can happen that are gonna happen with -- older card that is also in great condition doesn't have to be a star but after talking about. A great player. On an old -- in great condition I mean again close to perfect then you could really have big money there. So you wanna do with that and I think some people grade cards for the for the holders. Like he gives you. Up a place to put the cards sort of speak easier to display perhaps. Certainly it protects the cards so reasons like that you've got to. I don't know Mariano Rivera wideout you've got to Mariano Rivera rookie and it cost chip. By ten dollars to graded us a little bit to send it out there. And you might think well why not at least at the end of it whatever degree it is maybe the value changes maybe it doesn't. But I've got it in this holder and I can short to peoples of having to worry every time I touch -- or whatever then I'm damaging. In some way so. Those mean those that's really all you need if you're thinking about greeting card it's it's pretty. Save you a lot of people don't like the idea of sending their cards to Texas and packets case or California. The PSA because it's a little unsettling to do that but. You know he get it in shirt you'd take extra precautions. Yesterday in back usually insist on some of that. In terms of the shipping and then you know you're you're -- one time I worried. That a package it's and to PSA hadn't gotten there they've injected in for a few days. The other. The thing I've pushed back before -- this is like another scenario where you do great cards that's when your me and you're just obsessed with. But I'm about sort of including that in the in the presentation here you get to a point where you just won a grade cards because you know it's just fun. And CLU do and hopefully also. Have cards appreciate from that because the grades are are good and that's obviously you're trying to do. I'm more I just I'd love to do it -- to keep track of everything it's. That's been sent it and and try to upgrade once in -- even downgraded cash cash in a little bit you know I don't wanna be speaking in jargon here by. I love that that part of of collecting. OK so that's that's a little bit about me. 8030550. The number 1888550. To 550 I wanna talk about the masters a little bit. And how much do you think a badge. That you get you know basically ticket. Published do you think a masters badge. From. 1997. Would be worth Tiger Woods' first masters win some of the more famous masters tournaments 1986. When Nicklaus won -- -- 46 years old his sixth masters. And I'll tell you why in 1961. Is probably the biggest year for masters badges and has very little to do with anything with who on the tournament. -- talk about the masters a little bit and collecting and I'd love some questions or comments you have about pujols or Rivera who had a tough day yesterday. Tiger when have you a man and a strategist talks sports and and we've collecting. -- leave that part to me if you want. 8030550. Is the number what's up with the masters -- baseball scores and more here in sports match -- caller has the update on WGR. Good morning again I'm -- show welcome back to the hobby here on Easter weekend. Last year on Easter. Game six. Sabres and flyers downtown Sunday afternoon. There was also have a -- isn't game that day to remember. My son was at the -- game with my brother and and I was working at the arena for game six just the nerve. And the next -- be the nervousness the mirrors of those those playoff games as I've said a lot lately just does nothing like it in sports for me. Course this year missed out and on Easter weekend. In 2012. The say overseas and ends well again that's -- travel -- tuba. Earlier this time of course sabres and Bruins today 3 o'clock pregame and for clock face off. Watch it. -- a well of course you all do that. Going to be a while forcing him against him at 11 more taste -- Big let down. OK before it's called I'm good I'm glad -- have a couple here to. Go to a second. I mentioned masters badges how much what do badge cost basically the pass to the masters from 1997. Tiger Woods' first masters when. A memorable tournament. Answer right now around 175. Box. That's what those self four masters badges are collected they do sell once in -- there are lots -- -- come around on eBay but they do show up and other places. I mentioned 1961. Why would 1961. B a special year for the masters for badges. Because in an article I recently read. Because that was the first year that they used plastic. Instead of Paper there are older masters badges but there very rarely found in good shape because they were just pieces of Paper. 1960 wanna switch to plastic and people collect that. And I can sell for about a thousand dollars actually use a 1961. Masters -- They're they're tough enough to find for the current year stuff like tickets are all over the place for the masters year to year but. The badges from the past so for a little bit of money. Took the phones here is Mike on WGR hello Mike. And like a real things. Where where you aren't we all go to art or spiritual. A couple of years ago. Well -- -- or -- was one problem -- picked -- do you want what you wanted to pictures. -- -- you keep credit is coming out for your autograph. And you looked at the regret that. I read it. Yet you're -- -- you know world war. All we are. And looked at that that there that much water below -- -- what are we return to port side to your name. And he looks at me and well as -- -- on any particular. I want you guys to me so when you want they can actually read the -- so that's. That they're looking at me now. I don't know where to figure it all brought -- the art and other -- I like -- I would like. You don't trust your name. And looked at me and reluctantly mean -- you guys are looking at in -- Credit. Don't go on order and did. All of them. You all want to let -- -- -- mature. There is no way I picture this -- expect by on its feet and -- -- a picture. And can't even read -- signature. I met an alcoholic -- -- up or or or but it at these guys leave your name. Brought this is a very interesting question you wanna know from me if I think you were out of line. And a half. Right why -- why I. I don't know like I've never thought about this before -- I think. What it reminds me of I'm not sure this is quite right when it reminds me of is. If you can if if you really if you think you're out of line asking a bartender how to make -- drink. -- -- If you like a dry martini poll how specific can you be in asking them to make it a certain way there's always in situations like this all line where is it. I'm sure it's a question that the players hardly ever get -- I'm wondering if Derek Roy were even remember you because he gets that so rarely you work totally right also. In your comments about the autograph -- as one of the worst I've ever seen in sports -- -- alliance. Art and yet we know like -- and the only quick autograph I ever got. -- -- -- -- -- -- her name to determine what letter. And everything else. Will mature stack in the -- You know and it could -- -- a couple of big goal and the quality -- them. You know. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Or lawyer or Obama. Will. I mean it's terrible what I met at a morning a twelve other on wall. -- -- -- -- Richard -- Agree. Well yes I suppose you make a good point and I I have to disagree on one point. Many athletes -- good job B Ryan Miller. Dollars in rent every letter I mean you're you can obviously tell it's and -- -- know a little bit but it's much more legible than Roy or panic or common bill -- just you know -- signatures I think are embarrassing as you do. So it's not everybody but. Do you have the right to ask -- opened all there. Opinions about that I mean you did that there. So. I suppose you know you pay your money and gives you a little bit more license. Then you know if you're running into him somewhere and as for an autograph I guess and 11 more thing about that Mike thank you for the call. Is that. As I've mentioned before athletes who get paid to sign. Will give a different signature. To someone who is paying them sometimes then what they would sign for you at a restaurant or somewhere else even like after practice. I don't blame them for that I don't I don't blame them for that it's touchy. Because fans. Generally present the money athletes make for playing a game that we all would love to be playing that's a lot of people to look at it. Mean pay pay close enough attention to criticism. Of athletes after they have a bad game and you'll hear a lot of fans refer to their paycheck as if that should mean anything. But should they they they care. You know less because that makes the most money -- just doesn't doesn't really work but anyway. Athletes who get paid to sign their name. When it comes to giving it out for free. Do they wanna do the same job for you like some woods some would be super nice about it and like I think some I know some are just going to be. -- -- -- If I charge person a hundred dollars for an autograph and -- charge you nothing. I'm I'm cheapening my own. Place in all of us so. You know most people are just gonna roll the rise and think that rude and go to message boards and right -- about the person and in bad mouth. It's from some people do that so I think you know we don't exactly sympathize with the athlete but they're kind of in a no win situation because they've. Well no win except for the fact that they will make thousands dollar sign autographs which is which is which is pretty good. Mike's question. Does he have the right as a customer having paid for an autograph whether to himself for his. Child I don't think it matters you have the right. As a customer. To specify how you want to add to that extent. How -- you want someone to -- sign -- autograph what do you think. 8030550. Is the number -- and opinion for go on to the next guy. Well they you know some athletes are particular about what they will sign. And there are lots of examples of that but it's sometimes players won't sign. There will represent a certain team and an autograph they had a bad relate if they -- bad relationship with the team or some other thing like that it never quite thought of this situation. I want you to write your name more neatly so that I know what is of course a picture of Derek -- a really is not that much confusion. If it is on a pictured talking about like a napkin or something but. Credit card store to buy an autograph you're probably putting it on something. That you don't you can tell who it is by the picture or the car or whatever maybe not maybe out of -- hockey puck. So that's that at that point doesn't really work because course there are things you could have a sign that won't represented him. Roy Roy and panic and common oldest it's -- joke about the signatures are this is a done. Yeah he respect the guy for saying something. You know ten dollars in this case. Does that matter though -- it to me. After Novo legal mind and like to me that doesn't matter how much it is time boxer a thousand it's still about. That you think it's too sloppy it's interesting. Here is mark on WG RX mark. -- -- Let's too bad. Who says the best autograph you've ever seen. I want to do a show on that. Get a couple of experts. In here maybe in the next couple weeks and talk about the greatest autographs. Current guys while I made a little bit of point about it when he was on the bills I thought Trent Edwards. Stood out in this way and Edwards and I talked about it once about on the air about how. He. Always thought it. A good thing to sign his name neatly. And I respect that you know it is. It is I'm just wanted is signing autographs as an athlete but I respect the guys who. Take the take the time to do a better job Edwards had a beautiful signature one guy that comes right to mind for some reason is Roberto Clement. You don't see a lot of his autograph spot when you do. The way he signed the details like he added the detail level of his autograph that I think was really the and you can read every letter a lot of times you -- -- autograph -- you search. On Google for you'll see some. Lot of retired guys signed their name very well Thurman and Jim Kelly that those guys read those guys have very good signatures although I am told Reid has cut his back. It's -- silly right autographs. But. No I've seen the I've seen examples of Reid is not well least in one case started to just. Normal faster against with his name if if you collect bills autographs. You probably have those guys and you you might agree that their autographs usually -- autograph or super nice Kelly Thurman read. Bruce's is okay Bruce Smith. Steve tasker it's okay you know but you can definitely read the names which is good. 8030550. The number one of your calls on this interesting question that Mike asks what do you think about it. To those the customer have the right to ask anything. From the athlete as far as how the name is signed interest -- time for sports and Mike show opened this is WGR. Back to the hobby I might show appear every Saturday morning from eight to -- because the golf show. With Franco's -- that was on its seven. That's when golf season officially starts is when our show starts and Saturdays. And also speaking of golf tomorrow we will have the final round of the masters on WG are alive. And I actually like the sound of golf on the radio. It's interesting if you. You haven't heard it before you might think this is a ridiculous. Idea golf on the radio but I don't know like -- once drove home from. From Albany. On a masters Sunday it would be your Mike Weir won and I was totally into it so. I am Donovan not with with radio and live broadcasts and I love most things but. Masters final round coverage on WGR live tomorrow. Here is wreck on WGR Rick. -- -- I'd you know one thing for a bit by. -- about autograph there I think or at Peter Curtin. The -- heartening is that there's a lot of guys out there they're just. To make money often but every autograph it yet and a lot of the app which I think police. Bat and it really depends on how you get an autograph signed and wanted to go play about it is that back in the day at a friend of mine. Who you're someone that he -- and we're not going Gretzky came down it is -- anger allowed near him over there right and a limited edition poster. And the end there posters mr. hockey and -- great one with -- well it and Wayne Gretzky came out and I held up the poster and I said. Eight wedding site where little guy and he called true please allow -- over next to his level. Open -- the poster. In regulation brought it right -- my -- which you know from their perspective from mice on its where everything. Or collect dirt that -- you don't sell. Is we're actually nothing in it is one -- -- autographs and ever gotten but just recently went out to Vegas. And I'm walking through all of them also there. -- picking up and stopped then there's Ernie chambers. Belt and 45 box. I paid this stand here talked Ernie -- A regular guy like you wouldn't believe talking about how he thought would Ali. I'm that you worry -- are slamming. Larry Aldridge shot and then we got done talking spent eight. You like it a particular -- And I say. Sure and he took this great shot same thing actually -- your job and -- You know it's. You know we look at people signing autographs. On sometimes just people out there really don't know give a crap about what they're giving it I'm but it the other side it is. I think it really comes down to the quality of the reason why you're getting autographs and and I think the the type person that you're -- -- and listen. From that perspective Jim Kelly also another one site. Great autograph -- and it it and put it you know. Excellent excellent commentary thank you -- And the person causation part is it is a good point that. If if an athlete is thinking that you're there to get his autograph the you can seller. If they write it to someone that really takes that out of the mix which is you know. Probably. Easier for their peace of mind. So he like that athletes probably some of them would prefer to personalize all there autographed the sign for you so that there's a lesser chance -- ends up on eBay. Here is mark next on WGR -- mark. I've been whopper of being patient is call call I would love what we are -- I'll work best in the -- it's almost a year okay it would be -- Gretzky rookie. All the Bobby hall last card in the court how -- -- and -- beat up -- Okay 7980 that I -- we are the top twelve under water and you're looking for the the values. And android. Well you'd want you -- Use eBay took to get a good range and take your cards and compare the conditions to what you see online and then you'll be able to tell where years -- -- condition is Paramount. So I mean tested. Top and low away and you know thousands verses and by just where you -- fit into that depends on what kind of shape current. Not due to political lot of Israel are -- while autograph -- future and present and poll really that's good. Yes about America falls I almost got eagle fighters are. Part. How does what does that autograph. Signature look like is that legible is a good. On the knowledge has pretty much you know. They must now modeled after they. Yeah I don't know any kind of I have no idea about value on that but when it makes I think that would be a pretty good so -- -- -- -- and what. America all I got ultra the American order by art or -- cubicles. What did he sign you want to be -- for you. It was a piece of it but I had lectured on. It -- chaebol are. Cut interest or solidarity blows -- -- -- last yeah. I think I remember his visit but that was a long time ago. I was we'd be more about HR nutri. Apparently you know your stuff mark. Hey look on the cards again really about not trying to pass you off you really wanna use eBay. As it's the best way to answer that question and if you look at your cards and get an idea well are they centered are the corners. Sharp. -- -- I got here then you get an idea do it -- your mind on a scale of one to ten. What kind of condition are we looking at her European expert. And then take it to the web. If you search Gretzky. RC. Which is short for rookie card tops to please. Many many Gretzky rookies will come up I mean is a very popularly. Traded card. Its iconic so you'll see many of them and you'll be able to the look at what you've gone and the pictures look like and see exactly where you fall. Generally. In. Common condition. You know maybe a hundred to 200 dollars on Gretzky may be able lasts. And it's a few bucks each on Holland Paul postcards are big they're like you know the rich are staying but -- -- They're not valuable. Howland and Bobby hall. Okay figure call mark W back on Monday. And Bulldog will appear sort of sit with him but he's he has next week off. So just be me liberals to -- talk all week next week I'll be weak now that the hockey season is over. I don't think delegate. Past they were hobby you week. Okay thanks for listening and Mike show have a good weekend and a nice Easter tomorrow see you on Monday.
