You know. I clearly remember one of the first sports talk Saturday shows I did hear on WGR. It was early October this past years. Six months ago. And I throughout a Twitter hash tag we do that sometimes comedy that's available layers well. Throughout hash tag and say hey get involved with this particular question on Twitter and totally think. And I did that the -- At that particular day it was rate before the season start the week before the team was in the Europe to open the season. Ask all of you at that time and tell me how the sabres would finish at the end of the season. Other responses overwhelmingly in the second -- third round. Playoff area mean people most of you said they're gonna get the second round where they're gonna get to the third round. So you said -- gonna get around wanna lose again make the playoffs and the lose again. As we've been used to. Not a lot of he said that though not many some said -- -- get the cup finals and lose. And it's some of course because. We live here in buffalo because the excitement. Said the team would get to the Stanley Cup and win -- -- -- But no one I saw this coming. No one said they missed the playoffs. That's where we are today are. Out of the playoffs. No playoffs and it's her third time in five years. No playoffs despite having the league's third highest payroll and it's all said and done. No playoff despite having an owner who told us the sole existence of the team was to win the cup not even merely make the playoffs but when the cup. Yeah I know he didn't say it wouldn't that would happen this year he never said that. But obviously when he did not say that. Expectations for this season after what they did in the offseason. Were raised just on that statement alone they are raised in -- Lot of a lot of expectations lot of excitement. I would say the expectation that site excitement for this team this year off the charts compared to most years. I'm like any season I seen -- buffalo sports probably sense the bills are making yearly trips to the symbol. That's how exciting. The expectations were and everyone knew at that time the bills were so loaded when the season started years had those kinds of expectations for the team this was kind of. That kind of appeal not that this team we expect them to win a cup right there but that was the expectation the excitement was building in this town since probably. When he. 199091. Those areas when the bills -- bonus of doubles. But of course the bills never came back Marty trophy. And the sabres. Still after another year have never won -- Stanley Cup. This year the right -- they didn't even earned the right. To be one of the sixteen teams have a chance to -- that's that's kind of what. Gets me. State survey I know it -- for you. Because we deal with that at least something like it every year in back twice a year. It's always at a different level sometimes. They don't make the playoffs bill sabres don't make the play -- sometimes. L. Get a and. Loose quickly. Sometimes. They'll make a nice -- Like this year. Just fall short. We get our emotions attached we get our heart attached. We get invested in it. -- of course the legs of the chair pulled out from under us. Now -- all the ground we watch everyone else laugh and play. Someone else take on the big prize at the end it happened again. Sometimes we get in. Last -- or six games. We wanna sing right here at WGR. Well you know we just weren't good enough Winamp does or is good news Pittsburgh or Philly or Boston where the team is that year. Of course I hate to bring it up but I have to. Sometimes it's the ultimate night through the chest wide right. Noble. They've ever seen this city when a Super Bowl or Stanley Cup. It's been over forty years. For one team's existence it's been over fifty years for the other teams that is combined over ninety seasons. It's about being a -- sports man it's about growing up. Here being a part of a heart breaking year after year it's about even still even after all that investing so much into the fan for me. Some are gonna look at the positives they shall be optimistic positive lever what ever talk about the nice run toward the playoffs use it as proof -- this what this team is capable. I think McNabb it's you know he -- a lot of talent as far as running goes he might be odd man out what this team and it's hard to predict where the gonna go with the roster next year but it seems the defense is pretty sad. -- and I think has NHL skill great skater great shot to play on the power play. There's so many defenseman on the right who are NHL caliber and you wonder if they'll get a shot or maybe only two shots somewhere else.
