It's it's a good day. You know buddy -- opened things up you probably heard the quote by now saying you know. People are going to read into this but I'm warning you guys of this every single year don't try to connect the dots it's fun but it's Spanish of football you know what that it just isn't fun if we can't try to connect the -- so stricken at the nothingness. That's what we're gonna do and I and I love it I also like that he says are we want to win sixteen games culture so. Bloody chance of that asset arrest and got some flak for -- right and I'd just I'd just like the fact that. Beyond the fact of whether or not we wanna argue how feasible possible -- is that that that's beyond the point when the attitude out there about thinking big. Has not been their for quite awhile and they're trying at least at the very least which IA. Cents and I think you'll probably agree -- is that. They're trying to back that up with action with a plan you can disagree. With what they do. But you can't argue with the fact that they are trying it with a plan and going about it in a certain way. How many years over the last decade plus with his organization we've been just confused about. What does this team about what direction are they heading and what's the identity of the offense. Is the defense you know on the same page that a coach and the quarterback actually communicate well during the course of a gamer during the course of the week and all that sort of stuff that you just. Figure would be automatic with a well run and apple organization has been lacking with this team for quite awhile and hence we haven't had a playoff appearance and over a decade. Finally. It seems as though there is some of the things that you definitely need and maybe some teams take for granite and made to the bills. In this area took for granted during the course of the late eighties in the entire decade of the nineties when things went very well it's just that. The GM the coach. May be the owner. The quarterback. The coordinators the players they're all on board with. Whatever it is that they're on board with and again you can disagree -- agree with watching -- does at the offense but the very least. He has a plan and his quarterback likes it and is all for it he communicated clearly to the players and the QB. And with that that's just one facet of where you see everywhere along the lines at this team and I like that buddy nix from day one. Through even today. His message about the draft has been very similar the same -- -- and you can agree or disagree with it. But you have to respect for the fact that he actually has a plan and is sticking to it I respect for that as a -- Manager. In general. You need to stick to your core philosophies and you know it's easy to waiver from the memory once again to you know try and extent overextend yourself to try and you know turn things around quickly. But with in the case of buddy -- He sticks to his board. He sticks to the fact that you know what the they're going to build their overall team as a whole. A through the draft. And you know try and add some freeagent pieces they've done that this past sees this past off season with Mario Williams and Mark Anderson and now it's faced three of the draft. Now it's time to get those first two draft classes along with this draft class. And help. And have them help. Well enough to get this team back to the playoffs that's their hope and that's their expectations this year they're gonna all in on this year they have a a relatively easy schedule they're playing the NFC west they're playing AFC south they're playing the the worst teams in division of the AFC north in the AFC west. It sets up nicely. And regardless how they're playing Miami twice -- regardless of how you view this schedule pros and cons as a fan. All that sort of stuff that we we obviously talked about much more in depth yesterday. The fact is. That's the schedule itself. Isn't. Record wise and everything changes as you mentioned with -- over the bulldogs in terms of while house Cleveland Nabil how's Miami and -- of Houston and every year there are teams that we that you're gonna be good and Kansas City last year teams you think that ain't no good like Cincinnati that -- -- in the playoff right so the schedule itself. Every year less and less it's probably. Less meaningful in terms of the breakdown of it until you actually get weeks into the season. However. For a conversation in April it's about as good as you can ask for. And regardless of all it's -- Caldwell -- team in December or I don't like starting up there. Take all that away in terms of your preference the schedule is. Sixteen game is sixteen football games and I like the opponents that they have to play the sixteen against. And it's going to give them especially in the second half of the of the season to get them an opportunity to finish strong which is something they haven't been able to do. Since they basically have gone of the postseason anytime even teased us with a good start to the season they finished awful throw in last year as an example. This year there's an opportunity that if they can even just. Beat decent in the first half of the season there's a great opportunity for maybe and this playoff drought. Right now they're dependent on this draft class to come in and make an impact especially tenth overall. And that was the big topic of conversation today at one bills drive for the draft luncheon you know. And a lot of different positions were thrown around cornerback wide receiver even quarterback some times offensive tackles thrown out their linebacker to. There's a lot of different avenues people think that the bills can go down and it was interesting to hear. You know certain that certain things about certain prospects may be their philosophies on certain positions. And it. Trying to decipher whether or not their ruling out that certain position for the first round or if that's still in consideration so. A lot of interesting stuff from today. Both those teams are rumored to be shopping those corners looking to make a deal before the draft. Obviously with the bills in the nick Warner possibly looking at someone early in the draft. Is that a route they could possibly go to pick of a veteran any trade and not necessarily number ten over. Well Talib is ultra talented but he's a nightmare off the field -- A team that is going to take him is going to be very solid in the locker room you know -- I would think a pattern of winning. And you know very strong presence of veteran leadership. I think that that might be the locale -- to -- to -- a -- they Samuel he accidentally makes a high salary -- giants today in in light of a corner right and Asante -- to me. You know it. Is he worth that price do they have that amount of money -- to play around with to bring in the corner like that if they were to take a corner at ten. His salary in his first year is -- salary cap number would be around like those like the one or two million range just based on all the all the bonuses and everything. You know rising his actual cash number up but the cap number would be its slowest in its in his initial year so it's. I see where bills fans want wanna get this done in May be used the tenth pick somewhere else. But I just don't know how likely it is for the bills to give up a draft pick for an Asante Samuel who has a lot of years. Vested in the league. You know how many years does he have -- how many years is he going to be able to compete at a high level he can't factor out what happened in Philadelphia last year while they just totally flamed out and and -- they couldn't cover anyone they couldn't tackle anyone in Philadelphia so you all have to take all those things that consideration to. And as your argument joke you know try to convince me why may be offered to tackle is less is important as I say because of the fact of the style offense the bills used correct maybe we couldn't make the -- -- argument with why they wouldn't trade for -- Samuel is that. Well their pass rush they've spent all their money there and there looking to put a ton of pressure on the quarterback exponentially greater than what they have which has been. Virtually none. What would you think it will take what he did you -- athletic tomorrow and immediately place. That wouldn't have to be developed over two years. Greg Randall might be the best bet for that. But -- he might be the least probable of getting their 241 itself. It it to double edged -- waiting until 41 to address the receiver need and adding some competition like we talked about today but you know if they don't believe in the in taking that first round receiver because of the depth of this class that and then there's not much you can do about it. What it what did you decipher from body in terms of spending the tenth pick on a wide receiver I don't. Think it's it's it's got a good chance of happening in and in LII understand. The reasons why you would take 1 in and I am fully on board were doing and I will say that every day until the draft happens appear or meet as the GM I would take a I would take a wide receiver. But when you when you look at what they said in and you can probably cross this off the list. It nick started off by saying the wide receiver position is deep in this draft of that assistant GM Doug Whaley said. We are deep -- our team we have a lot of guys on our team that have a lot of question marks we always believe that competition brings out the best out of everybody with a -- -- in this draft hopefully if the opportunity presents itself. We bring somebody in here to push those guys -- may be overtake those guys but we want to bring competition to meet that doesn't sound like the first from receiver. On that note. Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in Washington DC reports that wide receiver Jabar Gaffney. Has told him the Redskins are trying to trade him now Jillian really picked up Josh Morgan and they picked up here are so on this offseason. Gaffney. 31 years old 68 catches and 947. Yards and five touchdowns last year is that that kind of player whether to -- or another veteran may be they could be the peace instead of. The big draft yeah I don't know I don't know if that if they necessarily wanna go the thirty plus receipt thirty plus year old receiver route usually. Receivers are to go on the decline around that age and I think that's a big reason that played into Lee Evans. Ultimate demise here in buffalo. They want they like to eat -- lot is made out of New England. And what they do win in trying to keep all their players on the roster on the upswing they don't want anyone on the downswing. And it to the bills that it if they were following that model Lee Evans was on the downswing in their opinion is Jabar Gaffney on the downswing you know. He had a tough time to open up his career but then has really corrected himself on a place in the league and had a nice year last year for Washington on a really bad team. But. I just don't know that they'll be willing to even give up a late round pick for dialect -- just because. You they have guys on the roster that they like. They wanna add more young guys to see if he can push them and that have a long term future. He might end up getting drafted but you know he's probably in that somewhere in the fifth to seventh undrafted range and I like his game a lot he was a very consistent target for a for Logan Thomas there Virginia attack so there will be guys out there there's some project types -- -- to tackle like there is every single year. Guys like. I James Carmen for Mississippi State who was a converted defensive linemen and and really only have one year so he could be someone that that you look at as as a project may be a -- McCants out of UA beats you so that there are some guys out there that you -- look look at that say okay. Well if you don't hit on these guys then. Then. Then go the address the route that they might be some guys out there that can that are. What was it last year guys that was supposed to be like what what we're doing draft podcast last year in like January February tunnel was -- hours.
