They'll obviously I'm sure bills fans wanna know your thoughts on what they're gonna do and who they should be and shouldn't and all that I wanted to start at the top of the draft obviously especially with you know of the team used to be with Indianapolis Colts gonna take Andrew Luck who would you take number one if you still had the pick locker RG three. Well. And demanded that he and I did all the work on them prior to lot. Leaving the colts including seeing them personally on numerous occasions so. I adamant that he. In terms assistant -- if you wanna replicate. What we did we Peyton Manning. As an offense. And an offensive system. And -- would be a that the proper sit there. You said dead heat are you pretty convinced that both guys were gonna be very successful franchise quarterbacks their respective team well. We recognize it's always. It's always. And an exact science and and what you're really do it and making it's it's an educated -- but it gets nonetheless. And but I really do think they're both gonna have really good careers because. The most important thing at quarterback needs. And that is the intangibles intelligence. Leadership character -- people have that in abundance. Bill you know before -- move under the bills obviously you know you'd take a lot of questions still do about Peyton Manning who knows you know how things will turn out apparently it sounds like he's getting healthier itself think. How do you think now we have that the TV's with how do you think he will -- with Denver. Well I think he'll do fine it's certainly my whole. I know great deal about the injury obviously at about the rehabilitation. And all of that kind of thing. And everything I've heard from the doctors and what I heard from patent in -- Did that everything that the -- predicted would happen as. He recovered a blight on schedule. And he's he's pretty much -- right there. -- back in mid march. I am very knowledgeable person told -- -- whose opinion I trust. -- -- he could've played a game that point so. Thus far it looks to reflect what's called the state that way. No one can predict injury and at his age you worry about it there's not too worried about debt. But each LP you'll do well there's there's no question about that I. Former bills GM bill Poland -- this now working for ESPN and you can read bills column and espn.com. You did a piece about. The teams in drafting last year. And -- it came to the bills -- -- brought up cornerstone pick in value pick from last year's draft let me ask you about the class of 111 -- go to the class of twelve. And what your thoughts on Marcel -- you have listed as you cornerstone -- from last year's draft. Well -- -- these corners all picked up. And they used it to what was its second third pick in the draft order rewards it was not pop and -- and and and and they used it wisely make it to occur. The defense -- corner stall and he can play any system he'll be terrific likely candidate wants its system. Who really is a great defensive coordinator. You're perfect head coach Q&A great defensive coordinator. And and so. It'll be you know be terrific in that system and and now hopefully from bill's fans should be careful. The what do you like about Dave Wannstedt because I think last year you know the offense seemed to be moving in a positive direction -- Chan Gailey and now wants that takes over the defense what do you like about him as a coordinator. Well first of all he plays a style that players like to play. Odds are excited about point four he plays this style would get a lot people for the football. And most importantly he places but now it's easy to learn and need to deport eight. And they're for a player can cut at once and now and and and use their ability not to worry about. That the other thing before they make a move so. You know I'm always respected -- acumen. Ought to do it look at those. Galloped out we teams that you work. And and you see -- defense it. That -- it was terrific of course when you're gonna coach to call and Jason Taylor and groups all. You know -- -- -- track record of success. And more importantly players really like planes just. You mentioned -- as the blood to get your thoughts couple other bills went heavy on defense last year. Kelvin Sheppard could be a starting linebacker this year Aaron Williams should get significant playing time at cornerback. What are your thoughts and some of the other guys they took -- would you like some of the other selections. Idea I think you know at maturity well you see out it didn't debate system. To -- Including. Even that this follows that you mention. And to see -- developers are players. Young players need development it'll come into the league is a -- partner -- true parents and it'll look back history wise but those that three years before he became Bruce let others talk of an empire -- so. You know it takes time. But I'd I'd think -- question that but he did the right thing going heavily on defense. And and and Davis in my right coordinator. And and then regret should be up defense. Billion rob Bruce Smith and I don't want to I think it's unfair to put that label on anybody. But the big news of the off season certainly was Mario Williams you saw him up close and personal twice a year when he faced. Indianapolis what are your thoughts on that pick up for the -- what do you think he can do for the defense here in buffalo. Well it was a it was a full four outs. Over the years. -- you might remember Charlie actually was early to write for picking. And -- Everybody -- Reggie Bush. And not engage young. And that Reggie Bush and adjourn and get through out. To distinguish themselves in the NFL and and and you know Reggie. Good career as this specialized running back but. Did indeed regiment in the opening. And -- a problem for. Any offensive tackle but particularly. Or speed up two tackles which they are you know D'Brickashaw Ferguson and soldier and people like in the division. Because. He can terms speed into power and we think that's powerful abused text. And so he really gives you -- part time and soul I think that that's the best little free agency. The only cautionary note is that he's been injured the last couple Beers and you worry a little bit about that. But but it -- now. And playing well. You know you got some people on defense -- that there -- gonna cause some problems around the. Bill now to the current class for the bills at picked Ted. Buddy nix was saying last week you shouldn't just get a starter you should be able to get the difference maker an impact guy is that would you be looking forward the tenth pick in the draft. I would always on it's I don't -- the impact guys took up position can be an. You can't always get big guy you want. And and you can always get an impact guy. And I think. They're gonna get a very very good player. I don't know he's going to be a difference maker like periods. But mostly. Actually they're gonna get a very good player and I'm sure they'll -- shorts. What are your thoughts in terms of the the choice we've talked to appear about left tackle wide receiver cornerback given linebacker what what do you think the bills -- should duet and. Well there's a change. That it could be a very good wide receiver there. I'm I'd like to get that there will be -- oh left tackle it without question. -- you know I don't I don't our bodies land. All we can -- to take this Skype merits of first round trip in and he. Potentially a -- -- but that doesn't take into account system fit which is very important. And but it will be tackle. And and likely to be. Some other pretty good defensive players their corners and certainly a linebacker. And and so it -- it's a great area to be and you ought to be in their current long obviously. Otherwise actual PC in the players -- draft to come to fruition but bottom line. Bigot again the player. Philosophically vilify all things were equal and and I don't know that obviously different players have different grades but a false things were equal where would you tend to lean is a GM. Offense defense is there a particular cornerback or wide receivers -- particular position you always prefer. Well I always said it. Arm when your top ten and don't expect a fight this organization. When it's -- and should do. -- Whenever possible. One of the following. -- scores touchdowns. Cryptic -- respect the quarterback. Think I turned the ball or or draft a quarter pole position in your defense. That's what she should be looking to do in the top and it. Because all it should not -- -- long number one and number two. Don't positions at all so Arctic com why. Did you really -- you pick. -- -- now. The bills clearly clearly -- need at left tackle. And a chuckle -- what position I wouldn't forward at all seeking would be right attitude out. Either of the guys or all three guys that are there would be. Line players I think it had picked but don't write those those. Do you use this is what we nude bike for a long. Well couple things we'll let you go and you're really busy you mentioned you know get a guy that scores touchdowns what do you think of Michael Floyd. Michael and good players a lot problem obviously -- Indiana. He's got very strong and very physical guy. He can after the catch he can make people miss in rural people. -- some off field issues which dropped by all accounts seems to about straightened out. And and -- is Smart player. So Michael or it is a good player he certainly merits the discussion that people about and -- -- the in the top ten or on the cost of it and -- what is not. Is a great route runner and so you have to say you know what the system -- here that would be questioned only chance to answer. And and I'm not qualified to. But. You know he's not collects. Very good player for the rights and for sure what's called pop consistent these are. The -- the last question is the one that it's on the minds of all the bills fans even more so after the acquisition to Mario Williams how close. Or far are the bills for making the playoffs again. Well I'd take -- as close it is keeping -- -- that's number one. Currency the quarterback and a good one. But he acts would be kept LT. And stay healthy. Secondly. On the apt to take a step forward -- eventually but I think there are certain -- read on the right there were papers would later. And and then they have to learn how to play. In a pretty competitive. In. In order not to be themselves because one thing you know about the albeit what happened in the playoff game last year. And they're not going to be themselves. Most blocks and you have to be that. So it's that's the epic -- here is clearly engines. And you gotta learn how to play mistake free for all. When the chips are on the line that's easier said than Barton. If you look back on history Jim Kelley -- in 86. And it wasn't until 88. That we learned it and we and we and we beat ourselves in the championship game against the Cincinnati Bengals salt. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- But. I would -- that. In terms of -- bills team that's capable of contending for the division. This is the strongest one in quite some time at least that we -- right now.
