But we are gonna talk hockey -- Brian Duff. You saw Brian's work on the sabres telecast perhaps you're like me and you watch religiously on the fly on the NHL network and you see Brian there as well. It right it's Howard Jeremy good morning thanks for coming on. Good morning -- -- Did you find time to see avengers this week and are you busy watching hockey games. I was. I was in the look crop along with pocket so I in the movies from. You then it's game right you right -- out -- I don't want to what are great. Well as a guy called a lot of line earlier you know have to in the crease controversy involving buffalo sports teams one was a little bit bigger than the other though. Yeah and and -- really was no controversy with the one in lacrosse it's pretty -- it -- just can't stand there when Google goes and then unfortunately one other great veterans was there and and explain why he was that was the unfortunate but still a thrilling thrilling finish. Ed Bradley got -- to talk about the playoffs and throw a couple sabres questions action and one of the things were discussing today. Is the Giroux hit on died as a brisk what did you think do you think it is they suspend the bowl offense and if it is here's the big question do you think they'll actually suspend. Well I believe is gonna have a hearing -- It. The -- with the back part of it is that is the -- when will they actually spend them and and the reason I'm sure many are thinking they won't is because it's quite often. They're getting Malkin Alex of that in the cross the line for at least appeared to and I'm not penalties on Saturday it was necessarily in that case but. It's -- when when you get the highest then star power involved in these situations then. My gut would tell me that I don't think through was going to get suspended but based on what he did. I could certainly see a one gamer based on it being that edged out by the book in the fact that they call that a minor penalty for intentional it to the head. -- don't read or I should -- illegal check to the head within the game. Yeah I I I'm with you I think it should be a one game suspension if it was the regular season. I think he would get a suspension. But I'm also with you in terms of a German are -- about this earlier. I'm I'm not expecting it because I think the NHL's can look at it go it's a huge game for Philly. He's a star player he's got a clean record we're gonna let him walk and that's not the way should conduct business but -- wouldn't -- first or last time the NHL's conduct the business that way. And exuberance and nor any sport quite frankly crap and I don't think it's just pocket when it comes to stuff like that. I was just thinking this morning to -- from the super standpoint Myers got him earlier this year. And wasn't suspended for it. But. He can't help but wonder whether it was no play that. But ultimately let Myers getting suspended -- and here -- was you know. Aware let's say you know he was on the radar for the NHL head office so. -- so I guess sometimes put himself in that spot in the sense that and what you -- tried to say. What that Rupert was kind of bending forward at the last minute but to me there was a lot more upward trajectory from cloture rule and the fact that he. You missed any part of the shoulder and -- squarely ahead I don't think is good news for. Brian Duff was this year on WGR 80305 -- -- got a hockey question -- comment. Do you did you pick Ovechkin should have been suspended all and I watched -- Saturday at home I think and I think the reason I would feel that -- -- because. At the last second -- and tried to play the puck with his speed so he's making a play and then in the midst of making a play. Try to brace yourself for a guy that the boat run over and you know Girardi clearly had a chance to get government they have -- and the important thing is that. Well -- intend to leave his feet and a lot of situations. I don't think I don't legitimate and great force. And I think jumbled glanced off of him but. You know bogeys really got to dial it back when it comes to leaving to -- Do you you know led the suspensions were hot and heavy in round one and into mayhem it was getting crazy out of control. Granted there's less games in round -- but it's been fairly quiet and no there was a one game. Boarding suspension. The other day but it's been it's been tame compared to what happened in round one. Why did that take place and then how comic calmed down. Com. Why it took place in round one I don't think there was any different then what we saw on the regular season and just everything was so much more under the microscope as it was the play but I think. We were seeing that kind of stuff. You know that -- they almost nightly would be wrong but. Certainly. Every other day or every three days in the regular season and and you know what -- and in the -- when the playoffs again. And now obviously we have outnumbered outnumbered games so I think automatically that and dial it back. But I think everybody tells you now with in the game of hockey at all positions meaning management coaching players. The first round is absolutely. The toughest and most unpredictable. The most emotional I think -- and we seeing this play out over you know a number of years where. You. So many over and so -- long series. Early on in the by the time we get to the conference final one of the two. Games on either side it is beaten down so bad. That it's. You know it's almost a little easier for that -- the winning team in the conference final get the final because one of their opponents this isn't quite there. I really think you know that just the emotional ground with its. So hard to get into the playoffs in here just so jacked up that either. The first round is is unlike any other and the the other side of it that will never know it is. Much like the regular season. Does at some point and no calm. And wanna say the standard changed but. Is there pressure. More pressure from some faction in the game. That means the owners. This city now to Janet and to the hockey operations department. You know what we've gotta dial this back we can have suspensions every I don't like that happens but you know. That's the injury right people are going to throw it out their cities the campaign they can't be living -- that every day we're talking only about suspensions and not agreement guys. You know there's going to be conspiracy theorists think that way. I just think that it was. Incredibly intense threat -- the -- and that's what we saw so much that an -- and you you know mentioned Howard that the suspension from yesterday. That's the big one for the rest of possibly getting -- game he's been arguably their best defenseman all around defenseman for Phoenix and you know popular national and denied it it really could pose a problem for the coyotes. Grind up -- from on the fly NHL network and of course she's -- work on the sabres games that I wanna get to the sabres get to thoughts of what they need to do this offseason but one -- thing on the on the playoffs you're a very astute hockey observer UC tons and tons of games all the time explain to me. What's gonna what the flyers because they look great and around line and I. Finished watching that series thinking forget it nobody in the east has a prayer. They're just gonna blow through the competition on the way to the finals and now they're on the verge of being eliminated by managers. Well for two reasons are asking the wrong product. I picked Pittsburgh and Nashville on the final the eliminates. -- from educated discussion on the Philadelphia Flyers. And my seven year old -- gun to school and he picked Philadelphia in the final against LA that. But I didn't Keller the Smart in the Philadelphia Los last -- on the brink of elimination didn't really want -- the breakfast table so. You know what it's. It's shocking. The -- to me the simple explanation is that. Certain teams just match up really well against another and Philadelphia. Owned Pittsburgh all your law and could score at will could -- two goal deficit that will. And the exact same thing that happened in the regular season played out in the first round of the playoffs. And for whatever reason and I think anybody that's what's the sabres would know. What the doubles and you. Think of the four games against New Jersey this year how frustrating those games work for buffalo and I just think it's a frustrating match up I think. Again one of those things you never don't -- the fact during the flyers got some injury problems. You know we won't know until it's over they don't look quick decision and because guys like to root don't have. Decorate the speed that that is necessary for his candidacy is as dominant as it was around one. But it's just not a good match up. For for the doubles and it's it's you know it. I guess they get the one thing that's easy to explain although it's harder based on yesterday because -- Gallup actually played well but. You know but they lost when he did play well that would have been my concern obviously I mean they gave up and rebels against Pittsburgh I'm not really like Bryzgalov through the whole series. Not so much game -- game results is the body language that intensity. All the little things that. You know and I'm not that I'm not formulating an opinion on my own I'm basing it on goaltenders that -- but it worked with every night coaches managers that that would you know sitting in what does. That there's just there's an awkwardness to Bryzgalov came right now and again and the irony is yet 39 saves last night and it still didn't help -- the way and let. For obvious reasons now at 31 he even as explosive as Philadelphia is so I just that is don't even coming back and that's one. Well last year when -- -- about Iverson is team here you get a chance the a lot of the teams you know from your perch there and NHL network but you got a chance to the sabres up close and personal. A number of times this season so. As you look at the off season. The draft. Trading in the draft free agency whatever way to make this team better what you think the sabres need to do specifically to get better this offseason. Well they've they've I think offenses is the place to start and then defensively were there. Moments where it didn't go well these down the stretch you know and I think you've seen. Other teams experienced the same losses to a defenseman and then have the same repercussions about Philadelphia. Maybe buck that trend or has -- for a length of time. In the absence of stronger and obviously results and others. But -- you know I think their their ability was that they could outscored their mistakes and that's what allowed them to get this point I don't think buffalo could. So I think the focus has to be up front. It's just there -- that again. Other than trade that there are really many options because we don't know what just like last summer that the free agent cool is then he gets thinner every year. And locked up guys the longer term deal so none of these 27 year old I'm restricted free agents and really. Rarely materialize and an exception the rule this year. Exactly every day and what I'm hearing it is. In all likelihood. You know New Jersey is still a candidate although maybe not a great one for him to stay there Minnesota is definitely an option -- it is home. You know some -- -- Detroit others might even look. You know depending on how LA goes here that they could be I don't know whether they would be a player I think they were thought to be a player before. They definitely seem to have things going in the right directions with key pieces at all positions like -- and quick and obviously some significant players up front. -- I think would be real hard for buffalo to get in the precinct sweepstakes haven't tried -- like everybody else well. So failing that I think you have to get real creative I'm not sold on the fact that those four picks in the first two rounds. Can really leverage an awful lot in return but that's you know that's without going through every single team. And knowing how much they've got and they -- covered or how much they need to restock the covered. Arms off the top my head I shouldn't say that there isn't necessarily trading partner -- -- doesn't wanna take. 21 runners in the second off their fans are somewhat off the roster right now but. I really think -- you know if if we're gonna go with Hudson it and and Tyler -- ballots here kind of popped in scoring. -- and you know that they need aside size betterment for certain number three but. I almost think that they would want that -- that bigger sentiment to be an offensive guy to and then. It almost that situation they -- -- the -- -- where they were more the three offensive line team has. And as much -- they like -- and and and and edit and and but I'd like them potentially to. I still think -- the bigger offensive there are so that it'll be interest and see which maneuvers they can make but. That being said. At least -- the promising thing it's like the most recent moves that they made via trade so what's significant and. Brian Duff -- this from NHL network you can see his work on on the fly great program a lot of the hockey fans and -- if you watch it. As always Brian thanks for coming -- that you appreciate your time and good luck your daughter who -- I could get some points school that is gonna find out flyers lost. You definitely well a lot I would have liked some lights up and ready which is old school. The public good idea -- --
