I had that I was last year for a command start -- guys' games on the schedule that weren't gonna win but bit back when. When of the T shirts were involved member that was like right around the time that things start to go the other way -- there was a different teacher -- in the that shows up today with the for next featured the real light blue one. And threads in red and Fitzpatrick and blew it was like any claim that he had no deal was on that you know. Who knows what to believe when these guys that -- diplomats but it was pretty it was kind of fun it may things have been going well and they sign Fred Jackson. I was just about to write a column. The -- come -- for it tax you know I'm good at that -- other people's money it was thought it was common anyway and then next thing you know press conference at two. And I told it's got -- -- that this better be now and not be about jerseys I do not do jerseys. Drive all the way here to do -- Jersey. I think it you know it was Fred but it. There was a little bit of -- -- thought that maybe Mario Williams would Kamal the number nine the and that would be a press conference that did not do that. -- -- -- I'm not Jersey guy. Well this is a little bit along the lines of what you're suggesting here that maybe it's not always. You know. First class but this offseason has been first class. By the bills all the way around Gerri what we're trying to. -- today is just how that. Happened was there a change in the the mentality. With the older just at the top of the organization. Is it more of a perception thing we know they did spend money before but. Not always that smartly how did the bills. If I may say so all teams become a team that this offseason is just playing every shot perfectly. I would I would like that I know the answer I I think that Ralph Wilson has gone cycles over the years it's not what he's always been cheap he spent a lot of money. That was 075. Years ago when he threw money at Dockery and walker in the -- about a couple other minor ones but he he spent he spent. On spikes go back a few more years maybe it's every five years. Maybe he's not really make it all calls -- says look we gotta piled money here in this league they'll forget that that TV cut targets supposed to go up substantially. Again. In another few years they're going to be -- not all kinds of money in money just said hey we've been cheap. It's our cycle let's let's spend a little money here now there are rumors that. The league might have said hey you guys are embarrassing yourself that thing with Lee Evans. Whatever. They have the money and spending that shouldn't be that big of a deal and didn't salary cap league with. Money you know growing on trees and these TV contract -- but good -- they've done it. I think in the year three of buddy nix buddy -- really has the power now. I get ahead -- that sense so I mean there's always going to be that power structure of the -- thing in Detroit but. It's more like it's the thirty year you've got you hired us you believe in us it took a lot of crap for -- for bring in and million Chan let us put him over the top we need we need resources here or our defense is than it was historically bad by the way. Let's let's go. I'd love to really. Knoll and and abdominal pull you know you'll ever get it all the way with a real far -- or Mario Williams. But as far as we can get buddy next to go on it. Was that you know he scouted them. Back when Mario Williams came out of college and they knew that this guy provided he had changed I think they even indicated they had intelligence that he had and they -- country guy. Like it wasn't looking for Miami Beach. Our -- of New York City like that Buffalo, New York might appeal might appeal to this guy and his availability. And the money they had to spend which -- came together. People of Italy who was the driving force there like knicks but looking at their roster knowing their deficiencies -- pass rush. Knowing like I know this kid or this guy prosecuted body next in the seventies. We can give him to -- And we spend the money to get him to come here by how the story really came together. If mixes the driving force there than like that that's all you need to know powers you know the fact that he knew the guy knew we could -- Is I think vital otherwise you're just gonna look silly pursuing a guy that is gonna and up in Miami your telephone. You were up if someone knew something that I think it was a seldom by the players had something there with a trying to sell buffalo and what was -- Long Island team then and maybe in Jim Kelly apparently had something that would deter the when it was actually themselves heavier saying. Buddy -- Or somebody how to identify that this -- possible price that's something we felt was impossible right that they could horror. -- 100 million dollar and it -- freeagent accomplished I think a little bit there may be more than a little of it has to do with what's going on in that. Locker room and they have invested in -- Patrick and Kyle Williams. And Stevie. And that there they're serious about taking this thing forward and that the guys and there are excited about it but that's what that's why -- thought this -- -- was really critical. But I think he's the real man in there. He was the MVP of the team he's the ultimate even -- you're at seventh round picks at quarterback and wide out he's the undrafted guy played two years. In indoor football and made himself into a player. These are performed his contract a couple of times. Made noise last year and they promised him. So this is the -- denies them the final but in the terms of the key pieces that were out there this is the one that I think players. And fans look at -- you made a promise here this this guy is important now whether you think he's gonna carry 300 times Lester next year is another story but I think. Psychic -- morale wise this was this had to happen and I think they knew that. So now it's a matter of while they did make a couple of famous or at least one famous. Free agent acquisition from outside. Now it's matter of turning the rest of the group which everybody seems very happy to have back together. From a six in ten team into something much more a part of you think. Were getting all these guys back to a team that still has only lost double digits. The last couple years. You Sam how good as the core this team really that's and that's what's on the line it's it's Cutley Q when you have seventh round as undrafted guys and you're investing in them mean they've earned it. But. You start with fits really him and there's people who. Are justified in question whether he can be a guy out of ten win team I think he can have the pieces around him a working but to me it's more. Those the players that provide your depth. What happened with Florence is interesting because they're telling us. They're -- the cornerback. Is is the young guys really have proven and they are really counting them so this lot of elements to this that that can be questioned. The -- for it better be good. And I do think they're more now capable of absorbing some injuries that this is they still need to have. The key guys -- the and there are questions about this team how good is the offense is at the offense to the first seven weeks. Mean you question before me -- sixteen games of profits as we're gonna and I you know that that's okay it certainly. After awhile it's about world war older sees enough yet to see it up when a big game win ten games and it's like the first seven games last year. Mean is that the real bills offensively. Defensively they were terrible slow that's a bigger issue at that but are they gonna ever get back that. Is Fred Jackson. Will he recapture. What he was those seven games today want. To do they want -- that more carries. There are a lot of questions their buzz that this is -- And it Bulldog wants to feel good about the tame these -- that well everybody good reason for that. Everybody does right it it it is a every year you go through some process and you you watch me do it might want to go into every day most Summers he watched me do it once a week. -- over the course summer like did talk yourself into last year's example was Shawn Merriman looks really good one can certainly. Our government independently. And it's it's so flimsy you know it but it still it's all you've got. This year it's. It's not flimsy. It doesn't guarantee anything of course it's the sports and and and pro football at that which can be. Really subject to just weird -- over a sixteen game season but. There's. There's a lot to believe him right now but you don't have to try to put together a house made a -- like you feel pretty good about what they've done. They based signed some real players but -- -- Mark Anderson. When free agency opened. And -- we had a parade because we might have been able to draw the parallel to Derrick Dockery and likes to walk -- This is the best we can do we can't hear it overpaid a second tier guy. But still they could just done that and instead they spent like a hundred million and that's also commanders and for good measure. I think he's their best roster since 99. So you could say that shift -- NFL team as its best -- in thirteen years I guess it's okay -- feel good about it. All four is that is the closest because they won nine games of probably an English look at the playoffs but. I that would be interesting conversation them all fourteen more this team it's a very good players on the team but you know what. I honestly think that it's better to better quarterback right now the Bledsoe once in 2004. And I think if you looked at their they had some really good defensive lineman. That was early prime of Schobel. But I don't think they're they're very good pass rush. With the front four it is. Actually question that team is hard for me to think of as one thing because it was two such different seasons. A little bit like last year. What this team. Would I'd like to see it do in this is asking a lot of I think. That that team did is blow -- the bad teams. And I haven't you know CNET from these guys yes they did destroy Kansas City. In the opener last year. -- that that is out there. But that team didn't it all for it and be very many good teams you know I didn't have to play a lot of them but they didn't beat them you know New England outclassed them. Where and when they play. So with these guys. It's the jets week one are you good enough and last year they really work. Back then but lost a good enough to go there and do something haven't done five times Euro. Good enough to go and beat the New York Jets and that's as much your competition I think. For the playoffs as anybody in the league that those guys they were eight Nate they're not great. If you if you wanna be good to go prove it week one that it's the chiefs in the -- How ambitious to wanna be right the chiefs in the -- What you -- that your tough stretch. The one thing made those teams did in the middle of the dollar was they'd go when a 1613 game now and Ayman Al go ahead and look it up and coming they never did that they seemed that defense is that would. Overwhelm. Weak opponents once in awhile this has been a team they'll go to Miami and -- 358. That was just. Every running back that shows up even backups have big days against them their defense it would. I would say -- are underestimating it with their defense has been very bad for a long time. And it's supposed to turn right around here and become top sixteen. It ought to. But they'll forget how bad they -- And that's that's what they need to get get to is to build the Yorker went 1613. Well not have them run for 303 yards and enact. The team ran for average of 275 yards over four games against this team. They're coming from a real bad plays defensively. That Merrill had better be great. Fitzpatrick. There's just he's on the line this year he's got his money now they've got a team that looks pretty good at least around him. At least as far as the perception goes the fans are. On board and fully engaged here expecting this to be the year that these guys finally at least contend. All the way into December. Make it interesting. And Fitzpatrick you know like I trust that he's thought of all this and is prepared to live when it. He's gonna have to be good especially. If they sign Vince Young which they have not done. I don't know if there's any leaning one way or the other in that but if they put it back up in place who is famous like that. And just gives more gives fans more of an idea of someone else who has won in the league to do that job it becomes even that much more. Pressure packed for Ryan Fitzpatrick he's the guy now. Buddy nix is he's he's already -- pretty much done his job in 2012 season. It's not gonna be his fault you know -- they go into the season and say they don't get quarterbacks actually are gonna blame body next. Week were to look back and say won't. What what he did make sense and seemed sufficient. Fitzpatrick the guy it it often is the quarterback he's the one. That's gonna have to really step up in the book to that the pressure is the pressures on him he's not -- mortuary in the fan's mind he's rich now. -- he's -- and -- still an okay and you know why he loves Fred calls his best teammate ever as he was great last year. I think his or it has him among people forget. That he was great to hear those nine weeks where he was lead league in yards from scrimmage. Can you not come back and beat out again. That'll help that'll.
