Joined in studio by Andrew Peters -- I Peters who this year this hour here on every. These -- -- trying to that they should trademark in the -- it goes around in that I probably think that a regular basis. Yemen between them. I you know like this I said I treated in reputed to article packaging to knock innocuous -- Peter's. Name I think you should trademark. I wish you would imagine when you play here. Probably wouldn't when -- I mean it's like a brick couldn't you off an uncle calls I get that but I just think it's a great at that. I hope is that I would be kind of the only. Like well I'll take your. Borderline Deion Sanders as showtime and -- -- on prime time. A bunch of questions for you about this year's playoffs about the -- About down just a bunch of stuff the first thing I want to ask you which is a good general. Hockey issue. Because. Now we we talk about the sabres really any team. The great. But the big money big ticket players like Ryan Miller and and Thomas -- it. The most. Scrutiny and attention and in you know right -- that the focus of these talk shows. Right Cody McCormick you you know the importance of a player -- McCormick -- you know the -- you had when you're with the sabres and we don't talk about those guys much I wonder if the guys in that the first group I mentioned wish they could have the anonymity of the guys in group two. And vice Versa. Like did you ever have guys. I don't know you don't -- in your like Lou apps that you think that Thomas medical wishes people pays much attention at. And as they recording McCormick and you feel like go to court sometimes wishes he got a little bit of the attention that Thomas -- its I I just wondered about that dynamic between. Different players and and different levels of scrutiny from fans and media. All right so. I would never. Trade and every case so. How do you were just properly. I I would never want that kind of scrutiny or be under the kind of scrutiny that those players are are are under a regular basis because. Believe me I love their salaries but I wouldn't want the the backlash that comes with that if if you don't perform and you know these guys you know Ali Cody McCormick -- -- -- you know -- they're making a lot of money but in the hockey world that they're not -- salary and 65 million dollar salary cap they're not making. You know 10% of the salary cap or or more. But you know. These guys you know the kind of fly under the radar than just a -- -- they do their job and and you know you know the thing about buffalo is is fans love those kinds of guys. The hard working guys the guys do that don't get as much recognition. You know and I think it's hard for for players you know the star players. In order to come in and play anywhere. You know when they're carrying the salaries of the contracts that they do because it you know. You know every once we got to remember these guys are human you know and and they do have. You know personal lives and and sometimes things bother them and -- personalized something's. You know there's some times are -- their -- with injuries or. Just flat out or just having a rough go and it doesn't help when. You know people are anonymous it's like. You know yeah it should be the opposite way you know let's get behind him instead of you know beat them down but you know I'm long wind and as you know saw this trying to wrap this. Got a whole hour here but we're fine I'm sure people wanna listen to meet all our. But it did in my making sense to put out and -- -- I would much I I was sold. Haven't glamour goes -- the -- like you said get the vick's salary. You know you get some notoriety if you score in the big goals people go oh and there's not upside to it right -- yeah that I'm sure there's there's an upside to it and in your -- to be the hero from time to time but. You know a lot of times you know more often than not guys like that of the villain because there's more games -- they go without points and they do with points and you know that's that's a tough pill to swallow when -- when you're an athlete just. You know when you're just doing something you love to do and and trying to do it the -- your ability and you know it's it's it's. You know that's kind of how it works. I bring this up because I wanna get in contact with old -- game because his drop in ice time is kinda like a slap at him. And the capitals in the last few years have been like a poster for playoff disappointment and I kind of tied that in any kind of linked that to him. And the last place gore. And huge gain a huge goal cynical awesome goal. Great goal and the stat gets tweeted out that he's behind like four guys and NHL history and goals per game in the playoffs and I'm thinking. I've been on this guy because his team doesn't win in the playoffs but he is one of the playoff performers so -- is because. No offense and you're no different than anybody else but you know when when you think you're doing enough or they're doing enough you always -- see them do more. And you know what he's getting a goal gamer appoint a game you know people wanna see that 34 point performance in the playoffs. It doesn't happen because you're not playing teams like Carolina you know playing teams like the islanders you're playing like real hockey at this time -- year -- and you people -- -- of the players the teams focused more on -- dollars and you know so it's harder for them to score. It's funny that you you know you mentioned I thought like the glamour side and all that no veterans of the if the caps lose. -- -- Beagle for the loss they're gonna blame or -- if the sabres get eliminated the plants. And I think it's Peter's fault the robbery or Cody McCormick and it never played OK but I guess your point it's Roy didn't score he didn't score enough for Connelly or panic or going way back with intra -- was always the guy to blame. So I get your point about you know. There is there's a lot of pressure that comes with and I -- -- part partially that the salary and the expectations are supposed to score but he's right about -- that's and I I watched that series in Boston. And there were times where he was nailed to the bench. And it's a tight game and I. I understand their concept they're worried about him it's -- and they want but I thought you've got very gifted offensive player. When it's really hard to score goals one -- can put you would in the next round what that. I mean you know why. And we're gonna typical chuck I can tie this into school chuck is not a defense of liability for mergers in the prob put money I think -- think what do you think -- hunters -- its winning. He's it's working he's one win away from the third round of the playoffs all -- I'd be nuts against criticize them I don't you got a great player wouldn't get them out there. Yeah I. Mean if I'm at all if that's and doesn't that -- part it up then all these saves as. It's fun I mean if I'm the coach I have him on the ice is often as they can't write you know but. There's a method every man's madness and and you know what's. If I don't know I don't have an answer to that -- you know if you want my opinion I would have him on the ice at all times as often as I could. You played we were -- about New Jersey yesterday. To me Andrew for -- sabre fans -- get down and injures here got hockey questions or comments and you can take your calls as well 8030550s. Writing about phone number football minds open if you wanna -- and -- -- interest been kind of -- studio and and -- us this hour. In a sabre fans get down my college -- -- if you missed the playoffs you always think you are. So far away from the teams that are in the points -- -- New Jersey. And though they're not that far away from Jersey this is a Jersey team that was a mess the beginning of last season. Fired their coach worst record in the league. Even going back to when they picked up global chuck what do you do when he's never gonna play that dirt that the devils system he's gonna kill this franchise. In the third round of the -- jurors at the end of his career. And now they're playing in the conference finals so if you think you're you're not that far away no offense to New Jersey that the -- registered as you know it really fallen down over the years yeah the. You know all the last couple years. You know when I was there you know we lost in the first we we finished second conference -- we have an outstanding game. We lost to Philadelphia when -- The they went to the cup the year the -- the cup and you know within the next year obvious you know like I it was a back and missed the playoffs so what he's obviously you. At first it was the first call chuck your right he got traded justice before the deadline. You know one of the things -- -- is it. You know people. He's misunderstood. Is it because he's an honest question -- probably that there's that in an -- in history in Atlanta and you know Atlanta it was never -- good hockey team when he was there and you know name. They get -- and move in and now there there on the on the up and up right. What I think that trade what is what is enemies in trade for majors you got a guy that can scorer well. -- -- -- And he's willing to buy in to the system I think you know a lot of that. You know is is probably the coach -- general manager somebody saying look there's no pressure on you to carry the team. You know -- have -- hubris of these young kids Henrik and you know there have a great team there. So I think that was less pressure for him in and when he was in Atlanta he was the only -- at its core. Flattered and in Atlanta that it was almost like he was given too much freedom in in your experience of players like that. Some might want that but did. I -- -- hockey players. You know it's kind of like dogs like to be inside of a crate if you great tree in the means they like that they structured their life they like discipline. Our players the same way because a lot of Cutler a lot of -- -- Lindy after the season players but he was too hard on them but other players thought no that's fine I want that I I I like that so. Your experience it for -- -- is he just like this. It's cheesy cliche but like an -- a wild horse that wanted to be tamed in want to be put in with a structural system that would. Bring out the best in him also bring a winning hockey. Well we also don't know what was going on in Atlanta -- you don't know what they're thinking there they're saying we don't have much firepower so we get the -- you go just tip off and shoot as diminishes many times you want your guy you're our franchise player. You know he comes in New Jersey he's not the only guy I mean there are the guys that complain. And can scoring can contribute. And you know just I think it's just sitting down with -- -- look there's no pressure on you we need you to buy into our system don't blow there's only get the park you know. Get your points in the power play just be solid in your own zone and I think you know he's bought into that and it took a little bit of time. You know but I you know what the way he's playing right now and in what he brings of the team and his attitude and and he's he's. You know he's he's a great player and and you know he was a good teammate to. Just his third time in the playoffs are gonna get this out here. The year the U guys lost in that five game series to the flyers it's six points in the five game. And this year he's been he's been very important. For the doubles they're doing so -- the thrashers swept by the Rangers -- you know yes and eight year old chuck had two points in the four games. You when you brought up go to a -- maybe think about the whole discussion about the Russian players we've been talking about the percentage of players Russian players in the -- -- -- has been dropping. And we were talking about the draft this year whether you should you know our teams leery of drafting Russian players there's there's three really good Russian players in the top of the draft. -- and again up -- here. Demetric Coleen and was here. It's about it for a long time. Detroit red -- Guy -- successful guys around the league not a guy -- the -- one of -- -- Atlantic Kozlov was here and didn't like here do you think there's something through the hole. Russians don't have the dedication the passion that anybody else does mean that it's been brought up because of that ice time has gone down. Do you think there's anything to you guys you know there is something that whole Russian players typically speaking don't have the drive other players would. I don't I don't know. My background is Russian -- Russian heritage oh just aren't as -- as -- but he you know that's a tough question because. You Russian teammates you know you just spoke highly of cold no I know you know like I play with -- on idol idol. I don't think max's -- or -- I don't think -- really wanted to be here all that badly -- and com. -- Dmitry you know great team guy IMAX is a great team guy you know other -- that I haven't played with many -- Russians and then Kovalchuk in. But you see these guys and you know almost wondered that -- tell it was a little more influential. And and there attitude because they always have that option and they can always go back there and make bundles of money in. You know so. You know I wonder if that's always been threatens you with some of these young guys because you got these. This this kid. No he went occasional gay guy nobody who's the guy that's close -- number one this year -- -- knock -- young punk I mean. Could very easily you know be offered ten million bucks by the cage -- is that is that not a possibility I mean I don't know -- that factors into it but. I also wonder sometimes if the Stanley Cup means as much to them is that they did -- growing up you know it is back when you know I was going up there weren't there weren't as many Russians or European players. And you know it almost seems sometimes like. You know it's it's to -- its numbers -- number one priority and maybe it's not to them I don't know the answer to that that's not mean you know. Me you know that's not appoint him trying to make him just throwing out and I don't I don't know the answer. But created if you think back -- Other levels of hockey whether it's the memorial cup or the mean I'm sure you played in tournaments you never even heard of until you played them you want to let them right yeah. You what you wanna wanna win all the little point right. Andrew Peters is here 8030550. If you wanna get into some hot with -- injured Jeff you're on WGR and injured -- right ahead. Peter I don't want you -- you don't. Great and you're not employer I just wanted to ask you quick question you know I know you're you're one of the best fighters have ever see and I just every time we see coding or fight. And watching duck punches and I think that they would cheat like -- to fight or this guy is a bit hectic fighter told me which thank. The question it was just calling that your brother now that's not I was accidents. I was -- those fears -- -- -- can't be an amber call the you know the Cody McCormick is a great fighters you he has he has something that I'd -- lacked in that was he has a real mean streak. -- -- -- You know I found I was. I love this I really do have watched them play for years played against him in and you know first and -- so excited when they sign guys it. He can score goals a year and -- -- 1012 flights years. -- entertaining. In the guys -- in the locker room I mean that's your the past there have. You know it was train to fight an Irish offense and -- you almost wonder little island that's have to. I think the doctors -- -- -- ponchos and doctors constantly throws the last acts you know you know Cody McCormick is a great fighter. Brings a lot of energy game I disagree with what -- -- I was not a good fighter. He must -- caught a few of the earlier stages of my career but. -- -- -- -- -- -- Quick tweet for you. Are you scared to skate in the WNHL. Wednesday night hockey league or else are you are you skating what are you we've -- media game you got there -- Downey immediately games.
