Saturday's. My man inside the glass -- collar. Who has a better record of -- young by the way they jumped 31 in nineteen. -- -- Is undefeated. When he sits in this chair -- I you're you're looking forward to the next two weeks you be running the show you be driving the bus so to speak and taken phone calls from the Western New York sports faithful. Yeah I'm only gonna talk about water poll. It's okay like from the -- so deer research out there are water -- but absolutely bloody good time maybe the bills -- Middleton make another big name signing free to talk about it -- trade for Tim Tebow on -- of the biggest say grizzled make a big deal you know in advance of the NHL draft lot of that you know going and -- That'll be he would talk about your advance that's good article by the way had on a Derek Roy's that would advance that's correct thank you yes yeah it tough tussle about that. Well my findings on Derek Roy is made as some comment there's not so pleased but the finding that their Roy Rick that's always the case in this as well yes that's true I loved that little fun with the commentators but the findings on -- Roy were essentially. That the sabres should probably not trade Derek Roy right now. Because his numbers of -- low. His trade value is while it's gonna be difficult to find -- suitor for the Derek Roy that you think has a lot of value but after such a down year last year is that it is not high right now. And if anything his statistics suggest that he won't bounce back and have a better year next year than he did this year. And probably have a higher value at the trade deadlines this probably wait even though a lot of us I think want him gone now. Well trade Atlantic would be one you'd probably see that happen anyway I would think it due to coordinate things I've heard -- say like there's. That's when really things do heat up people try to make moves so people -- yet rhapsody overpay at the trade deadline more than they do in the offseason I think that's right or at the -- the -- let them -- going to have a distracting is when. You really would get better value than now obviously. I guess it's I mean you know that is that trading at the draft it just hasn't happened the same weight as well. Teams like in the NFL people are moving all over the place moving -- like the Redskins they trade their whole. Trapped for eighteen years to move all the way up to the second spot to get RG three. You just don't see that very often hockey people gonna stay where they are they treat their coaches and deep deep deep thought -- players -- their coach to get the rights Kirkland rose to -- that actually -- it yeah yeah that was part of -- -- As part of the deal I reckon look at that way. But they treated their -- lot of people buffalo might want -- Interest of time while their coach of the draft you know as I guess there's that -- to take more calls on Vince Young we'll talk battled it more about. What's going on with the advanced stats he has a nice article Jay -- to wanna point out. And I are at our website WGR 550. Dot com what's got the job is up next John you're under the GR. They. Wouldn't that uncle went on ganguly -- shut or else -- -- life. They -- not so there's there's serviceable quarterback and quarterback. And young I would look outward. -- -- Outweigh that are old and I think at higher up outward looking at. I only think about their -- top talent and technology it and how it. I don't think about it. While Kordell Stewart was in a situation in Pittsburgh where. At the time they were still playing a lot of ground in pol with great defense. And he had a better chance I think to. You don't succeed in -- maybe his numbers were better because of that but I agree that he did well Kordell Stewart but. Did Vince young's tools are here is -- -- in a vacuum Vince Young for escort -- -- tools. Yeah that -- tools have been markedly better in the court of Stewart's ever were but Kordell Stewart was was a good situation is -- fortunate situation you really were to them he did a good job. But here's a thing about it Matt. Has a really -- like people do look past that Tyler Thigpen is a very good runner. -- mobile quarterback -- I'm not saying he's the winner the Vince Young is or the passer that Peyton Manning is or anything like that. But the guy has an athletic ability the funny part about it is that Tyler Thigpen actually in the year that he started fifteen games. He ran for 386. Yards and a touchdown terrific and if you look at -- rushing numbers for his running -- like a little bit but sir that was so great short but the numbers are good. He actually averages more yards per carry than its final -- runs the ball more sure but it's not like. -- never ran he ran it 62 times and he only started eleven games -- was running the ball he's as super good athlete having I don't know where. I guess I. I do know where this comes from I don't know if we wanna get into it by Kordell Stewart to Vince Young is not a good compares now -- amber. And I guess that reminds me of JaMarcus Russell to Cam Newton we know what the common denominator here is please stop it. Vince Young used to be a great athlete we don't know if he's still is his last year he certainly didn't look like in Philadelphia he looked. Out of shape. To me I thought -- looked -- shape now part of that might have to do with. No training camp and -- out all that but he certainly didn't look as explosive anywhere explosive as he didn't 2000. Six while I get that on Twitter from fits -- yet Twitter Twitter name the -- observer says. My contention with cells interview. Which earlier by the way David Butler good stuff from him from the city Paper nationals are audio -- right now. He says my contention with cells interview with David is that we are hearing your perspective that is outdated. This is all assuming he meaning that young is the exact same got. Okay but here's my Mike -- that is what has Vince Young done differently since all that went down to prove he's not the same guy that all that happened. And the other counter would be that if you go by Mike shelves branded WIP in Philadelphia. He asked him what a lot of them last year he said. Terrible train tracks they -- While I mean he said that he was a turnover machine and he was pretty much useless cell. You could say that's him that the reviews out of Philadelphia weren't exactly oh boy bring them back. Right I mean yeah if that tells you anything I mean I haven't seen anybody from the Eagles saying. Why I just wish that I feel so terrible what Vince young and -- And again in any other half that eagles' equation is it's Trent Edwards that they chose like. We all know what Trent Edwards this. End I just can't get over part of me says -- there's got to be something there right there's got to be some -- -- and that's the issue here. Yeah I do you think maybe that Billy just said well we brought all these guys in ledger didn't work we got to change we got to clean a little bit that up. In some guys are gonna casualties even though we might not have to we might want to do that maybe Vince -- was that guy but. Again one year two million dollars. It's not like he went to buffalo instead what outcome do you pay any -- I wanna be about LaBelle. He obviously did not have. Any really legit offers to compete for a starting job or make more money elsewhere. Now I know that we can always able 32 GM also you'll pass on Tom Brady seven times whoever won six times a gadget that they can all be wrong. Over 32 GMs -- not 31 other -- and not -- ideal -- thirty to not give me anything really close to. Good money. Or a starting caliber type of role or even to compete for one there's teams in this league that that are dying for a starting quarterback. He didn't go to any of them. He was available. They didn't choose them so that's what scares me and let me go back to this joint program now say that I'm not opposed this -- I'm not it's fine. I just think that they -- so much risk involved it scares me. I think we we ignore the risk. It's being I it really is that's the issue I have with this. This could wind up being a terrific move because she really could wind up doing wonders with this guy he has to come in and wins a bunch of games of the season. As possible right in dismissing it as out of the -- realm of possibility. It is possible. But to stick at -- -- and say allow this that negative stuff is gonna happen. I think is really dismissing and you can't do that. You know it's it's funny I mean there's a couple of different things that that that are hanging around I mean you could also say. You know when he when you talk about the other teams. Who passed on him yet there was couple teams who probably could use a starting quarterback who passed. There's also a lot of teams who don't have particularly outstanding. Backup quarterbacks who are any better or worse. Then Tyler Thigpen Bible I lose David -- is an example shark giant is David Carr a lot better than Tyler Thigpen no not really but. Yet the giants didn't outcome calling the patriots didn't come. All play in getting hit in the head on the Utley hit him with a football on the sidelines -- on national seashore so everyone does -- make fun of I think we need to get past that by the way. And ever better out ever ban it out of football team high school or anywhere where basically a guy -- certain other other guys warming up. Tyler Thigpen was watching to see if he was supposed to go in the game they're playing catch someone threw the ball so I didn't catch -- hit and -- I mean seriously is that a reason why we think the guy stinks I think that's so -- over dramatic overblown and ridiculous. He threw eight passes but you know here's the funny thing you look it is career numbers. And he -- -- lands one full season where it to play a lot but his quarterback rating takes pretty much everything into account we hire you mention that the rushing is pretty similar in that the -- actually averages more yards per carry. Quarterback -- Two point difference Vince Young Tyler -- so give me there interception TVs also. I got this juncture -- -- where Tyler's 21 to eighteen is Tyler Thigpen and 21 TDs. Eighteen -- right and Vince Young is forty or a 61 so he's a negative one and completion percentage is basically this. It's all their bullet that the differences record and that's what people are gonna look. Sure actor Tyler Thigpen really only played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 08 word. I can't but I'm saying that people point out we say that. And you can't make it rightly point out or maybe there -- because he was their quarterback. Maybe that's possible -- the other end goes on an issue I think he ended up being their quarterback because they -- very good right they got wallets give them try and he he put all right through eighteen touchdowns twelve picks and I mentioned the rushing yards so it's not like he was this giant train our people are acting like all like good is this guy is just incapable stepping up. -- field. Yeah that's that's where -- I don't events like old Vince Young is this huge upgrade well I mean written through nine picks in how many games last year means. I mean I of course small sample size -- Vince Young by nine picks in three games four games. That's pretty bad I hope I mean we just ignore that to talk about what he did in 06. Liked it always 31 in nineteen OK in a lot of those wins came. -- sex right the first three years really is where he made most of hit that 31 in nineteen the first and back the first two years. He was 85 and nine at six he was 8209 that -- big. Big record -- ten games he started -- by the. It again -- to play April 16. There's just trepidation in my heart and I think it. I am listening to myself talk here and maybe I'm being too harsh or too negative because I'm not totally against this. I just -- temper the enthusiasm that this you're getting some guides and command and flash at 3119 record and do that if he has this epidemic I think you have to really take a step back look at everything and say how much really an upgrade is it. Vs what a distraction it could be in what could wind up happening. Let it transport them and never has to go into game because Ryan Fitzpatrick goes twelve and four and that's the best best case scenario real. But he hasn't only game because it arrived at Patrick is linked portly or right it's Patrick it's injured. That you ask yourself what good at what bad can happen from that point I think that's where I -- how I examine this issue. There's a lot of layers here. But the simple fact you were talking and spending two and a half now hours on a backup quarterback is the exact thing that I've always. Got that other teams out. Like the jets like the Redskins -- bringing guys in and having these discussions about. Guys it really should be focusing. That's what becomes a distraction for. After the bills are. And realize we get to break here on had a good time talk on the -- we'll talk a little more with him because I got to bring this up with my -- collar. Big baseball guy -- is that it's either like a player -- baseball who is one of the best of our generation we will never even -- it probably. The whole thing does nothing to do beak of switch steroid use and that's why we'll talk about that more we -- were talks to be. If you haven't been paying attention to what this kid is doing this season. Hits two more home runs last night. He has seventy. On the season. Forty RBIs this year -- leading the American League by the way probably overall baseball manager Mac campus. Now -- that now overall based on overall. He had four home runs and I went five for five. You don't always story maybe you're just kind of you know figured out we as many watch in the years ago at the the all star go home run contest Yankee Stadium when he hit bomb after bomb and like -- it's great. This story goes back a long way that guy is already 31 years well he's thirty actions. He just eat. What they -- papers will be 31. In like a week. And he when he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays magic -- still that 1999. Guy goes way back. He was robbed. -- so bullish and. Of basically five years of his Major League career. Because of his drug is alcohol problems so. I'll say -- that I think that in your baseball historian. I mean other than Ted Williams I can't remember. Anybody. Who really had. That much robbed out of them I say -- he gets himself like get that but. His numbers would be seriously. One of the not the best of our generation I go back -- to 25 years since in the early eighties it's nice they're watching baseball. If he wasn't rob of those years because what he did. He would be considered the whole thing right. Now like I get your point on Ted Williams is -- about him going military at that right in. What you know he was the only one I mean Joseph DiMaggio also and Willie Mays in those guys. Didn't fall short of the hall fame but you think about where Willie -- numbers would have been had he had three or four. -- might have been three how many ever seasons. If he had those seasons how many home runs he would hand it might end up in the 700 in the same thing goes for a Joseph DiMaggio DiMaggio finished with. 325. Home runs something he probably would have been well and the 400. With Hamilton I don't know I. And what -- you break metallic. A talent. Whereas he had your spectrum of you know this generation took -- mid eighty's let's say since you start watching late eighty's let's say. Where would he rank as far as talent overall just pure heading talent. Mom lets you end up in the top ten I mean that the thing is that I'm not gonna put ahead of Barry Bonds -- Barry Bonds you know without spirit without steroids thing about it this way. A lot of guys did steroids when Mark McGwire did steroids he hit you know seventy home runs with Sosa that he -- sixty something and those were. The the biggest stars. Bonds got walked way more than those guys I -- yeah he still hit 73 if you think about if you took away half. Or half of his walks right he probably it's a hundred home runs. I mean just just -- just sit back and think about how many guys that were finding out did steroids and bonds with so much better. Then them by that much sell -- even if you go back he's 50500. Without steroids I mean that's incredible so -- let him. In saving the argument is it's the same argument that it's almost like the same argument of when Mickey Mantle you know he would ahead at a merits and you know mental would have been pitched more buttons that Maris got pitch tomorrow which that's why -- -- home runs. Total -- Really it is logistically it's a fallacy who hit behind Barry Bonds who had had a Barry Bonds who cares. Jeff Kent and what will Clark are your answers that are really get better. Will Clark is an okay hitter will Clark not by any means like hall of Famer or big giant. And will Clark was for what how many years maybe a couple of years when he first got there. We're not talking about sure we're -- I mean over years and years this has been studied by statisticians baseball prospectus they've looked at it. It's a it's a total fallacy about who hits ahead of who behind new interest -- far is what your numbers come out to a baseball people say it all the time they believe it. But there's nothing to back it up well. I guess the -- my point about Hamilton in the back tennis. I just it saddens me. What this guy did to himself because he is like he's on he would be on pace to me to basically be a first ballot hall of Famer if he had played his entire crew that we should of played out. Right -- there's one issue and that's his health when he has played. He's only played more than a 135 games one time. He played 89 and 2009 and the only played a 121 last year only a 133 the year before. That's when when you go to when you talk about the hall of fame I mean Hamilton has as much talent as. I'm I'm not gonna say bonds but I'll say he has near Ken Griffey junior easy -- discussion absolutely -- you can put him in the discussion for talent but. Other guys. Griffey later in his career didn't but early in his predicted they have the longevity aspect to it. They put up those numbers like the 500 home runs where they're able to stretch out a long period of time. Hamilton -- I don't know if it's too late for that yet he would have to string together. Probably five or six years where he played -- 140 plus games in forty home runs he was able to the you know put up 330 batting averages like he can do. I don't know that he can do that going on being 343536. Well Patrick and that's the next part is where the story goes out he is a free agent at the end of the year given all of the issues given the risk involved he's. He's already basically. You know relapse a couple of times in his career we know that over the last couple Beers one just this past offseason. Given all of that given the numbers given what he's done for the Rangers. What how would you treat that how would you treat that if your baseball GM that's a tough situation. -- The reason Atlanta near the Rangers you let him out it has nothing to do in my mind with the real lapses because I look at his production on the field and when those were and what happened in humans and MVP after wine and it's great he's still great yet won this options and great. He's adding 400. With forty RBIs in thirty games he's. Unbelievable. And so obviously he's able to set whatever issues are still lingering around aside also use in the World Series the last two years. The reason I would do is simply based on his age how much it'll cost and how long he's gonna -- ago. They're gonna look at Paul's contract and we'll get -- I just -- everybody right now yes and anybody freeagent specially your power hitter over the age of thirty. Anybody that free agent pool is killing your right that's it that's what they're gonna look at right exactly sell. You know if you're the Rangers say okay well that's how long can we reasonably get these guys -- his. Top performance out of him. Until he's probably maybe 35. At the best I mean guys tend to hang around longer now than they used to as far as where -- -- -- it stretches out. Maybe 35. He's gonna wanna contract it takes him through fort. And he's already had issues with just staying on the fields -- just ignoring the real life problems he gets them feel alone. For more than a 135 games ever will see if he does it this year. But that to -- gives me too much pause to say. Yeah I'm gonna get a contract through year forty I think that would be kinda crazy and you know if -- the Rangers I say man let. Let the angels signed him to or something you know let somebody Yeltsin's our competition sign a few years down the road and let all that money -- up to sign somebody else for -- And of course the Rangers are also. They -- also have a good pitching staff that they can be back on the don't have to have. A Josh Hamilton necessarily in the lineup tune SA win games they can we gave -- -- straight they're pitching and the other guys they have there. You look around in the house Andrew impact players they have -- Beltre use an impact player they probably of the best lineup in baseball and we have a -- acumen for -- start off with -- like when text and minutes they do it. -- -- that was one of the best in third base last year's -- Jeff -- -- committees. As a group -- all right. They claim they believe probably played third base uses okay area that was the that was the tactic well regarded argument so well. Jeff Jeff Jeff Kent was not Jim Thome hitting next -- Manny Ramirez which by the way and no real effect than either one that right Manny Ramirez. Went to Boston and killed it. In that's in the story arc -- -- -- make these things up okay baseball prospectus -- studied this there is nothing to back up. Guys who have better or worse hitters behind them in front of them it any differently than they do when they don't Barry Bonds -- have Jeff can't always there through his whole career he had some thought he would better players sometimes at worst players he was still. Unbelievably it. It's it's just it's it's just one of those things you hear a lot and it maybe. Said to be true and you might think it's true but there's nothing to back it up to say it is maybe in certain circumstances. But I can't think of. 803055888. By fifty to 515 number to call now if you wanna might jump in the Josh able to -- agent. That's fine because this guy is seriously. Off the charts as far as how good he has and when I watch him -- I loved by the way. I've said this before and many you know my wife is a substance abuse counselor and I I enjoy these human interest stories and seeing where these things go because it is -- fascinates me how these guys try to you know. Stay on the straight narrow and balance that out it's really interesting so Joshua -- just another one in. His stories different it's not like the steroids issue. It's not like he's got he's gonna get voted out of all -- because of steroids. He missed a good five years of his career. Which would've been great a great fighters in by the way -- would have been he would actually -- Tampa. What they have right now they'd have probably two World Series they they they would you -- a couple of world championships by the way before problem. For a go to John Rogers here OK Jeff Kent 2034. Every every. Everything is very serious when you're in that situation. I want one beer is a relapse it doesn't matter to you mean but like I said I mean I just a little insight this you issue because of what does reliving that. That's a relapse it doesn't matter how big a -- Okay -- -- title and guys today it hit major drinking problems and they got off the for maybe 34 years and an epic but out of -- they were able to control themselves so I think there are people out there can do it but. You know I -- to above and beyond which I've outsider I think it's the last piece of the puzzle. Pick up quarterback now the other -- I think the other teams would have -- would head hit the mentality. Although going in against Fitzpatrick and kind -- -- the game because they know. We did have a back up but Vince Young is. If a wild card. These teams are a bit of all late trying to put the stick out of the game I think because. Number wonder could prepare for. For that Fitzpatrick that the game which is you know. Can't -- Pretty regimented game. And I think it could be afraid of taking Vince Young that they enact the -- about what are your thoughts there. I totally disagree I think that you're gonna always trying to after the quarterback. Your always gonna try to make it miserable for the quarterback if that means the Corvette goes out it doesn't matter because anytime a team has to lose your starting quarterback. No matter who their back up is I think is good for the opponent. You know the other the other thing I was gonna mention -- Alex attaining. Our -- you you had a YouTube got -- what al-Qaeda. Caps win game seven tonight. -- for radio purposes I'd love to disagree by ongoing caps to I really think that. You know bouncing back from that game five where they gave up -- six seconds left and to be able to bounce back win. And wind decidedly to mean I know that the score was not big but. The Rangers really didn't play the way I expect that to in in game 60 yeah I get capitals. If you don't mind one comment of -- on the capitals yes they've been. Obsessively called an underdog I think that's not in Iraq I think they were an extreme under achiever for. About 70% of the season. Finally sort of playing like they were supposed to finally got nick was -- from back and got some good goaltending which to be honest they didn't -- for most the season. And they're supposed to be discussed it that's my point. I think the capitals going into this year you would've looked at that roster and said yes that is a Stanley Cup contender it is deal under. I guess you can't win that he can't win it because it's not vote on the playoffs but given even the playoffs. Would you consider in coach of the year if you could count what he's done in the playoffs with a steam while that's tough because the you know the playoffs are all about matchups -- failure comparing. Just a few games against one team which you might match up better against. As opposed to 82 games full season so you know obviously mean. I would have to give it to Dave -- from the coyotes if you're gonna give it -- by certain -- of the unbelievable so but you know. Dale hunter the thing is that Paul mentioned earlier level Paulson about it. He is just kind of manipulate the system they don't call penalties anymore hunter knows it. He's put out there -- a bunch of guys who are big and grab onto you and don't give up any space to coach it and that's -- that's what he does he's just what he's adjusting and I think that that's you know that's kind of why -- here. And don't forget they did the same thing last series they went to Boston for game seven and they want and they they have eight. They already have experience. With in the past couple of weeks really. In this situation in doing this and I think that the pressure that the Rangers going to be under is really pretty enormous tonight so we'll see that should be a really interesting game by the way. Phoenix at let's -- if the capitals do wit. You're looking at the four teams remaining. Three. 67. And eight. That's pretty ridiculous in the NHL but it just goes to show you that once -- -- anything can happen. I also think that the kings were kind of under achievers to mean they fired their coach also early in the season and then they also got a guy named Jeff Carter's great score. And trade deadline so you know third third different team -- like two capitals where they probably should have been better than an eighth seed. But they end up being an eighth seed because the early part of their season didn't go well in brilliant figured out until the last 1520 games. I'll -- it just this that -- really -- playoffs this NHL but it's not it's not one right now especially if the caps win tonight. You've got to believe that they the NHL offices none out in the conspiracy with a try to get teams that can't be happy with the matchup they're gonna see that by. Four I I wonder about that I mean I think that the NHL there's always a lot of conversation about the casual fan casual fan. And I think that in hockey they're just aren't that many casual fans who I mean -- ever run into anybody who says. Yeah now while you watch it you know when it's honors of that now people either love hockey or could not care any less about three that's where look at it I think that. -- it won't be exactly the same as if it's Rangers and kings if it's coyotes in doubles but I think people will still watch because they just. While hockey and it's the Stanley Cup. By the way NHL dot com go to their website real good stuff they have an all time game sevens video highlight real. Things have happened in game seven get that Pat LaFontaine -- of the capitals like and overtimes or whatever was a -- stayed up late to watch that Gretzky. Step on metro metro motel that against the New Jersey Devils of course I tell you what there was a lot of it's not the -- maybe tonight. It will offer up another one of these -- put on that real so. It should be interesting tonight all right. One thing -- how my producer in update diaper today and also your host for the next two weeks I'll be out of this chair next to charity you're good at the -- dollar in the.
