I think we're grateful that you agreed to coming coming coming out and not just talk about like past patterns necessarily. It's always -- the economy it's the largest follow on got everything going on there who's as the artist and you. Well Greg and I both not coincidentally love Seattle as as kids is just how that happened. In my case it was that my mom was left handed and she was -- influence in sports and Seattle quarterback gyms or was left handed so he was maybe the only one so I think our team has -- -- -- aqueduct. Maybe at 4848. Than in the amateur there was another went. They were on Monday Night Football couple times there -- some trick plays and I thought this is a cool sing okay and I don't know have with Greg but. What's your favorite player got dropped visibly got dropped out just a little white kid and he was -- little white guys think that was the connection they go tell you that it. -- -- On the place that to hear I -- in Dallas it's pretty funny I mean -- even if you were from Dallas back then. Your -- what. Just after being. What's your first memory of them or of football. First -- -- -- -- -- -- Back in the ninety's I in the battle like it was right around them are over girls the Kansas City game. Like nine and two at Thanksgiving jump sitting down my -- MacPhail was watching him -- thing -- You know go on training camp about rose Kidman -- to all the training camps. This group of big bubble there. So you would have been about six then and then six years old when the cowboys beat the bills in Super Bowl remember that. I think it's actually so that's right. My fears of Walt Walt -- might might might favor. For us donors are this -- there were several ever and the worst I kind of principled it actually is a good memory for the bills and Leo -- respectable audience and immediately and now the ball yeah it was -- The score from and ours after -- and this -- Ugly is this is show would be the epitome of what buffalo all I mean there are down thirty points on -- -- still -- -- about you know. I still is day one reed army. Is gonna play. It's excellent. When did you start when your member first thinking about football as a career. Shoes. For school accidents are playing football and if it. I grew up playing soccer baseball basketball. Obama -- -- media hurt on the small ski cute animals very protective won't really be in soccer. Football never really was that it was thought for. I was most kids where I'd go watch the games on Sunday and love every player every score every stat. And actually games ago myself and the football around and act like a treatment the smugglers and for some reason -- like myself catching passes them now -- the lot of fun yeah never envisioned myself being a professional football player. Until I got into. Laughs or playing actually relies completely game like this far they use it for. Playskool lot of kids today wrote to yourself the employee and literally watch the game on TV just. Ehrlich who IRS a lot of kids. Really civility that I did. And speaker that you get to make sure you keep it two feet in on the about the liner the carpet -- but what changed for you then eight -- did coach say hey you should try this you might be good and and when and if that happens I'll reluctant what does your mom -- than you put on the pads and -- are applicable. What if primitive my dad and you know my dad was always you know young dads are they -- argument football is that tough kid -- the tough guy and I was living in Oklahoma from third grade until about seventh grade. And Oklahoma football others. Soccer's big baseballs being. -- -- move back to Texas my third year and when you get ready -- and high school you're playing football in Texas and is wrong with you you know and so so I it's great here is my last year from a high school and my dad when missy by compliance elect and do it. Kenneth C well -- that and so he threw me in the eighth grade team. That my first game first artist of football -- -- a power turned back. -- -- running -- at that point I was like six to an eighth -- play running back and so. They scored four touchdowns a game my dad are walking off the field Monday I was like you might have a future and we'll see how this goes -- has kept playing and at that point -- it's faster and everybody to know do it right on your -- And in Madrid and high -- -- -- -- about it is when you know sort of -- this news potential. David Nelson is with us who won a state championship in high school and I would think. Knowing as little as I know about your high school that being in what Wichita Falls, Texas. There would have been. You know the big colleges would have been there to -- -- A sophomore so that's that wasn't the it was a really mean it was a it was a small one school. As -- -- -- high schools one school with the classifications are New York that's in the polls but it's like 01 is small it I headed back for its tying okay -- actually actually transfer schools after myself year to -- -- rule monsters rule because the football. Now now connect to throw. My -- it is actually twenty minutes away a dagger transfer jobs in your first. -- a bigger school and college the -- -- smaller schools that they see -- kid playing in point school competition martz coaching there's not much going on so. We moved to bigger school and Knutson Mercury soared. How many other kids on your on your political team once you've got to the bigger school were. Were recruited how many of them into big colleges well before I got there. Mice mice my school have had maybe four by kids go division one. Museum -- -- Texas Tech and Nebraska. Back in your recurring -- big deal wasn't wasn't as rivals there wasn't -- comment wasn't really being. Production that is now mean he sees kids are on TV every week -- and -- know their names you know you know whose -- it worries from his mom and dad's name before is this campus. So for me it was it was really when rattle sort of pick up and it was becoming a big scene. My quarterback went to Baylor. Had a couple other receivers and defensive backs Mateen went a couple of division two school so he gets in countless good players. You know guys are still playing now. I think I had a kid. That was a freshman when I was there is now who's got drafted by the Tennessee Titans. Six round believe this year so. But we really that's the -- talent come out of school since I've left guys my coaching staff is really they would bid -- been doing a great job with the opening you know race play. But at this point you like really the -- the school I mean like looking back -- now click on to Florida involvement playing a couple of years here with the bills and having success you've had your mosque I would think. You and what you just said a pretty nice story for the school. Yeah it's fun it's always fun going back and it is that it it's the small town. And there's really not much going on in that city. Football is what they what they love him and there's not there's not a professional football team is not a baseball team is not hockey team it'll have much. So high school football is what they hold -- Before we move on from -- and -- your college experiences -- Did you watch Friday Night Lights the TV show that was on. I watched TV show but I did watch some movie how true it is how our performances. As the story. It's true to a point where businesses to close down for the warriors you know local businesses and everything on Friday nights -- you'll find excellent now. And that that from the aspect is true I mean you'll see dad's. I think back you'll see -- right field and their players and if you'll see parents -- practices you'll see. Guy. Dads who played at this high school in naral her other son playing there and they want their son to succeed when your -- when your high school coach in taxes you're like the the man you're the man and a city mayors that you do you want there's a weekly. Town meeting where they can say they wanna say the coaching staff the coach and say hey my son play more. -- There's a lot of pressure high school that's the coaches in taxes just because. -- their kids have a lot to live up to in this live up to what their dad it if not -- or older Brothers or whatever right it's always something that signs in the yards. All absolutely -- my. Senior year we have -- robbery which is in their switches -- -- same city. And called the -- old I weakened at all week long the students of the school. Stay up all night -- houses -- -- and it is to some prank war and I think my senior year actually might -- got stolen out in my yard. Through my front tires slashed. It was tag got to a point where got a little stream. By the same time you know it is lot of fun and that week the whole week students just all out for it there so obviously school to sleep at night. Helping parents and the idea when kids are at that point but -- lot of fun is its its a got -- ready for college because. The atmosphere that we had taxes was a lot like well let's do so much higher level but -- -- the robberies and the passion for with him. Type of level. David Nelson is -- -- were giving it the background story and I don't wanna skip over Florida. But similar to finding out when you sort of think about football than being good enough to get the the eyes of the big schools. When did the NFL start it seem realistic was that is that. During your college career was were you worried it may be that wouldn't happen. I think the AFL sort of become reality. Really what are critics are. I I'm a firm believer in you know I was going to college to get my education first. And then I'll go on -- college to get myself ready for the next level and that's something that at Florida duke coach -- really adamant about he's like you use us usual we can do for you. You'll come University of Florida just to be an average from her average asked leader average students become university for the best and -- takedown tonight slow. And that was some that he really priest who was really adamant about his players preparing in getting race that we got the next level. There really ago I think that's why you see a lot of guys who were at school with mean who played a floor of the coach Meyer. You see him to be doing so well now is because it was my I was so. I guess that adamant about. Preparing and the college football in college so when he gets the NFL it's a second nature so I think whenever I started to read. Become recruited he's talking different coaches and having them tell me that they want to prepare me to get to it fell as eighteen year old kid you know coach telling you know we went -- if you fell. That's you that's that's like it's like here with you here so we you know a died in the excited so I think that's really -- it figured out. There a moment when he did he come to your house cure your dad's house to recruit you equity in your -- -- not to let like I like what. Like to salt surreal at the ages seventeen or eighteen with that would that -- have been you. Like a group reap huge cost forfeit our group huge NFL fan houses of all my entire life this -- I'm in Los forcing. I respect the game I love what it was when it's done for Meehan was there for the people before and after. And you'd just be a part of the whole recruiting process was -- amazing. And isn't feeling for me you know -- -- completely. Every day calling into a younger did you large generated tell you how much that once you -- it's a good -- for anybody and it as a 1718 year old kid. Knowing that you know your dreams of being the field and things you work hard for the entire life and and your family and friends their best and helping you supporting you. That's all coming to reality it was a good feeling and you know it having -- having got the coach Meyer and I'm Mack brown and and Ty Willingham and those kind of people coming into your house to your house test are for -- well guys right meet these people like while you're in my house Macquarie talking -- -- Now that's -- guess who else -- other big we. Wheels that people would know payment for these giants of coaching is big wheels but -- know what other other kinds of coaching game in your house. I had Lou Holtz Bob stews Bob Stoops. You know Urban Meyer. Mack Brown. -- Did you ever have to there at the same time. No no I don't at a couple of lots we have coaches commencing in time to watch you practice -- -- -- assistant coaches are off the corners. Usually when head coaches came to town you extend them before hand so you haven't one day at the cook Foreman figure out there is that. They production -- -- big long pants or not round it's. A really nice -- -- was but that buys -- their plan was your call or you went. Yes and no my my spam was very involved every time with the official visit my mom and dad is all wrong with me in I wanna make sure that. If I felt at home they don't wanna go somewhere that they wanted to come and visit me at -- and support -- inside -- wanna go somewhere you see a lot times nowadays kids will pick. The mob wanna go somewhat doubt and go somewhere in the -- -- remarkably different and I think that causes of the family -- do that. I think it was important to me wanna make sure that we are all on the same page. It was and we decision for me. What if there's any one thing -- what combination of things -- and eventually on on -- because you Ari mentioned 1718 years old. Mack Brown -- -- these guys coming your house it's easy to get star struck. What finally made you choose for. Well originally committed -- it. Acting in the middle. After my junior year I committed to Notre Dame and I really thought -- place for me it was when Ty Willingham was there. My mom went their columns of Catholic and so of course the earnings record regional. My dad and lobbed at the aerial attack coach Willingham of the campus of the people and people are in place there. And I just thought it was very -- situations me and then they obstinate. It worked out Ty Willingham fired him -- and life. He was going through his Super Bowl run with the patriots and nearly a chance to meet him it's no -- well my parents and account Wilson in the somewhere across the country with somebody and had met face to face yen. And in battle things blew up and so. Resigned look elsewhere and it came down to taxes you chilly if Florida and I had -- -- -- -- coach Meyer -- that you talk and I was going to Florida. I just I just had a mission with him and you know the office he had in place and that that of production he's gotten from his receivers and his offense and academics at Florida and it's just the state Florida and general. I -- to camp wanted to have to visit there insulin as well my mom and down there -- for the same way it was just something we just that was the right fit for us that the --
