That is right I have no idea what that -- means. But we're here. No you know it was it was an old friend of ours who I don't know if we can say his name on the air zone. Yes but he did a good job of that and I I'm always confused at what it means but. I think it means it's time for Georgia Saturday. It was. Yeah. Anyway and sports -- Saturday as I turn my chair away from game cave Matthew collar with you. Here and stop stop looking that way it's for American movie. That's that's the movie it's from it's called American movie. So we are here until 2 o'clock your -- sports box Saturday sitting in -- pot GL. And -- -- talking about it's something really interesting happen in sports yesterday that you really don't get to see every day. Here's we get to see every day slam dunks you think slam dunks. Somebody called yesterday to show open the Bulldog retired about how slam dunks are easy yet it's always the highlight. That's pretty funny right -- like I added I never thought of it that way but I think that is funny that when something's easy. You call it a slam dunk and yet it's always the highlight. -- why is it it was the highlight if it so easy it's true conundrum. Sell. Where's that going this. Anyway says something in sports happened yesterday that does not happen every day back is very great year. Kerry woods got to go out as they say on his own terms. He got to walk off the mound after striking out a batter his final batter ever into retirement to the tune of forty. Thousand fans. Screaming his name standing ovation and showing their appreciation for how good Kerry Wood wise during his career as a -- here's where it sounds like. Then. And in the noise goes up. That's when he goes over and hugs his young son who's probably 57 years old great great moment. And it got me thinking yesterday as I was watching it. Home many guys. In Buffalo sports do I wish this had happened for. How many. And the names came flooding -- boy I wish that Michael pack cottages skated it around one time with -- stick up in the year right. How many cash at the same thing is many. Issues as there -- with passionate. So many great times that you wish you could have. Showing appreciation for OJ Simpson for as bad as it. It is now with OJ Simpson is ugly as our viewpoint of him is at these days. Think about at that time. He just got traded for some. Draft picks and it just doesn't seem right. It seems like OJ EP was gonna -- view is gonna go somewhere. -- via free agency issues -- the same thing about somebody like Danny Briere Chris Drury. Like even though -- knew they were gonna -- let's just say okay fine we knew they were gonna leave. Why don't you wish we could just said. Goodbye and thank you. I know that they left for more money and everybody screwed up the Sabres screwed up in -- you can call them people call them greedy and -- that. What -- I don't care what side you're on that. When they left it just laughed and that was and they -- other places. And then you know Briere is still good Torre's career is over and you never got to say hey. Honestly man banks because that was a great run. And I guess where we're at right now with Buffalo sports. Ever run just looks better and better the more we move -- It's not like. Well we went on to win the Stanley captain who cares. It's like those both the the best times since then it's been first round outs. So. Cave and I we're asking is there Buffalo athlete right now who you'll want. Badly to leave Buffalo whenever he does whether -- be free agency whether it be trade whether -- -- retirement. On the right terms like Kerry Wood did yesterday at Ralph Wilson Stadium first Niagara center center. And there's one name that came to mind or that was brought up. Then I found to be extremely. Extremely interest. And I've also got a call so libel let please call -- Scott. Say that name's Scott go ahead. Dagger that hurt me on Oprah. Yeah that that name for me it's pretty -- I just he's he's become actually my receiver caught -- become most people's they've repellent it's via. The story I think you know. I think everyone. Being from you know being too much and -- don't -- this guy came from. You know undrafted but played in three different minor league -- never expected to respect it -- never expected in pro ball actually everything. He's never gotten. And that guy and you would have. Even if you -- if. All I lost them that is the second time I've done that tonight Scott here's the point. Fred Jackson you make all or you make all the rights payments on Fred Jackson. He is unquestionably. Unquestionably. One of the greatest underdog stories in sports at any given moment. And he is undoubtedly. A guy who represents the city and represents the team perfectly the problem is the teams that he's been on. By no fault of his own -- sucked. They have not won. They have accomplished. Absolutely nothing. And when I look at these teams so far the project and has been on. I don't look back at these teams and think. -- -- We need to appreciate them the same way that we look at has six teams three -- teams. Kelly's teams Andre Reed where it's not just. Thanks for being good. But it's thanks for everything with the whole team and being a leader being the guy that we look to for years seniors. Like we did with with Briere and Drury. Obviously there's a lot of good players on those teams but those -- the faces. And Fred Jackson. I'd. Like Fred Jackson as much as anybody else and I think I think that Fred Jackson is. An incredible story and a guy that if you don't root for Fred Jackson you've got a problem with you right. But really. The team hasn't done anything. I mean he's a guy that you cheer for. But I don't think anybody on the Buffalo Bills or Buffalo Sabres right now deserves that kind of treatment the Kerry Wood got yesterday. I feel like there's one there's about one player that you could really make an argument for that you could really fight tooth and nail for -- Ryan Miller. And as much venom is there is toward Ryan Miller mostly because he gets paid a lot of money. And you expect him a lot of people expect him to win the vezina trophy every single year because he gets paid a lot of money. That. There's this. Anger toward him that might prevent people from saying yes when he believes I want to show the appreciation. I can't say anyone on the Buffalo Bills that would change if the bills went to the playoffs this year. This that would absolutely change Ryan Fitzpatrick would be that guy even if they just went to the playoffs once when Fitzpatrick laughed. He would be that guy. And Fred Jackson will be that guy Stevie Johnson will be that guy we would talk about them. In the same kind terms because they would be the guys who turn the franchise around and got them to the playoffs after so long. But right now. I can't do it I can't say I can't say that when Fred Jackson leaves that. I will really be upset. If Ralph Wilson Stadium is -- all on their feet cheering his one for Fred Jackson. And that's not to say anything bad about him it simply say that. He just has been on a team that's done everything you could say well it's not all his fault he's been very good. Okay. He's right he's been very good but I'm not nostalgic about these teams at all. There's nothing there's not been pulled me toward these teams like areas with the 0607 Sabres. Not often not told me back on the east teams and thinking well you know everybody could have been better in those days really care. -- Sure the story that. Right it's not written yet of course it's not but I can't. I can't go ahead and just. Right in that they make the playoffs and -- You can Ville Leino is gonna score fifty goals next year we'll cheer him that greatness. Yeah well because you know unfortunately. Right now probably Ville Leino would be the last guy that anybody would be cheering all of the guys -- it would be more like it for Billy. He would he would I don't know who would be below him but let's let's Colin -- Jackson and I wanna ask you about Ryan Miller. It's it's on not. -- -- -- -- -- Good active and athletic on the real guys that two things one when you brought the question -- Situation happen the way you send them in the air. But she -- to keep information there how we might do like that. We felt that based on the poster. Also accomplishments. But who was the -- when he wanted to see. -- what was what upon us want to -- players. Let the same time actually people expect. Gentlemen who called it. Well I like project I'm like CJ Spiller but on the back -- the character of this individual. Unit also probably bracket did. This city community along with the C yes it stats were great. Wins and losses more. So therefore I applaud that gentleman -- course. Agree with it. Based structure that symptoms at all with what to sit back to the so. And that other bigger and read about Miller did we walk low line. And you know what to secure our respective ball protection because personally why Miller is not down. He look at the all these great things but -- great person. Degree tiger winning and losses of the world -- agree so -- sick or. The other purpose did shuttle is the happy they're here opposition. Players figured it when he curled about QB that. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- So thank our guys they're -- these guys who have agreed to not -- Hewitt. It takes a lot butch the arguments on projects and if I mean I don't have any debate. With Fred Jackson being good person and I don't have any debate about. That wage is a fan base should appreciate good people. Act like Kerry Wood. Wasn't at the forefront of the reinvention. Of the Cubs in the early two thousands becoming an actual contender because for. Yeah years from the freaking eighties. All the way through the ninety's they were mostly a joke and Kerry Wood when he came in and struck out -- in 98. They actually started to become a playoff contender. Year after year contender whether they actually made it or not and obviously they were really close to making the World Series 2003. There's Kerry Wood. Right at the forefront being if not -- phase of the franchise one of the faces of the franchise. Of winning. At least -- because of the arm injuries but if you really look at his rear he's the ace of a team. That went to the playoffs and compete for a World Series that had not competed. For years. Now if Fred Jackson -- of the playoffs and he's the face of the franchise one of the three faces we can all agree. Jackson. And Stevie Johnson on the opposite side of the ball. Look at them the same way. If they re -- this team and finally we get the back to the playoffs and make contenders. So here's the question on Fred Jackson. Suppose that Fred Jackson had last. Fred Jackson. Screw this I'm one out I wanna be traded. You guys won't renew my contract suppose that have been the case and it got ugly. Would you have looked back at this time. Twenty years from now the way that we do with Patrick or OJ or Briere Drury where we will look back -- say. -- I really wish you'd gone out on his own terms I really wish Fred Jackson on his own terms so I don't think that you. You can't put it there. Yes I think sell it the government looked you'd have to be a superstar. But he's clearly it's gonna matter whether the team won and. The Cubs did win it would Kerry Wood was their -- they did win they were good they were competitors. So -- when we bring up a player whose special to. A team that was you know in the Stanley Cup or in the Eastern Conference finals it's so much different than a player who was consistently on seven and nine teams that's just. You can't help but look at it that way. Absolutely while. -- the clock got to take a break in and gave. As a sports update a lot going on sports and am glad we can talk about this -- -- Dan -- 8030550. Feel pretty it was called chime in. Fred Jackson Ryan Miller these guys that you would stand up to cheer for the -- wish can leave Buffalo on the right terms. The way to Kerry Wood did yesterday let's -- in 030550. Yankees got the update here on WGR. Acura sports Sox Saturday Matthew collar here with the new day and gave is producing also handling the sports updates so I don't have to. Filling in for sell a -- GO. We're talking about the way athletes have left Buffalo. Obviously it's a little bit. It's a little bit depressing to talk about about the waited so many great athletes have left Buffalo. And here's what we've run into we brought to a snag when it comes to Fred Jackson because. A lot of people are on the side of saying look Fred Jackson is the ultimate Buffalo story he is all pro caliber running back. He is as good of a guy -- go to the story as you'll ever run to. And when he leaves here he deserves appreciation. What the bills. Go to the playoffs when Super Bowl or whether the bills continue to be mediocre at six and seven night matter. That Fred Jackson deserves to leave that way. I happen to see it. As if it does depend on what happens and -- might make the difference right here because we got a text became and OJ didn't win. OJ was an all time player. Eight alleged 2000 yards. Icon. When you think you know before all the mess of the murder and all that. Not trying to just push that aside but. Talking about him as a player only that's -- we're talking about. He's one of the greatest football players to ever play. Of course you wish things went better when he left. Of course you're gonna have a bitter taste in your mouth that he ended up being a San Francisco forty -- of course you. And now. Another Tex comes that says well how great was Michael -- Well here's the other qualification Michael -- was part of a team that went to the Stanley Cup and he was the heart of that team. I mean obviously. You had Dominique cash it in net and you had a lot of great defenseman Jason Woolley Jay McKee. And Brett Warren. We. But Jay McKee. Sorry Michael -- Was the heart and soul of a team that went to the Stanley Cup you can see the difference. And Michael -- leaves by just being traded to the Islanders. That makes you mad that and that's what I mean does it. Get your emotion up. That you feel like Michael pack I -- the fans both lost out. On him not being honored the way that he should have been when he left I feel that way I absolutely feel that way. And when it comes the projects in. Not yet that's what I wanna -- I'm Fred Jackson I wanna say not yet we'll get there maybe. Get their only if they win that's the way I look at it. I think that -- deserves all the credit in the world for who he is and what his story means the Buffalo but it was the Buffalo Bills. Break this long streak of no playoffs and become relevant nationally and not a joke. Then no I wouldn't really clear the way that Fred Jackson -- I'm trying to be mean to save them but honestly I really wouldn't. If Fred Jackson left today left in this offseason I wouldn't have sat back and thought. Oh god I wish that Fred Jackson had really been honored before he left I wouldn't have thought that. I would've thought. We get somebody else. If somebody else that can be a good running back now if they go to the playoffs I'm looking at that differently. And this is in a totally different viewpoint then you would look at OJ Simpson who's an all time legend who was a Buffalo Bill. Who you just. You not do not wanna think of its efforts is the forty niner. You wanna think of them as you have ownership over. It's great great player and you wish that you'd gone out the right way that honored the right way as opposed to -- his trade for cup Olympics. So I guess. You know I guess some projects I know -- Spain and I understand why people stand where they stand because. While they like Fred Jackson want. And I don't blame anybody for like -- projects -- lot. Now Ryan Miller is more interesting because Ryan Miller is more accomplished in terms of playoffs. And is in terms of Olympics obviously and as -- terms of that is the trophy and things hardware basically. He's more accomplished. Than Fred Jackson by a lot. He's an all star caliber goalie. Who has been a mainstay in Buffalo through parts of a very good time and parts of okay it's. And I think that there's a lot of venom toward him because of his contract. That he makes too much money for goalie and all this and I wonder if he was leaving and he said it was his last game ever if we would give them the treatment if we would want given this treatment that the Cubs gave to Kerry woods yesterday. Go to the -- we got Matt on the line Matt what's going on. They guys -- but I expect Ryan Fitzpatrick. Is overrated and overpaid. I also feel that Miller -- the same way. I like to see Dell Clark coming here I think that we agree exposition. I'd prediction that Vince Young -- like game three and the ultimate player with the story at right guard our proper accent. It's going to be Kurt Warner. Who are Eric all the -- groceries when he got it all want to live with that much era saw it should be ordering the Rams are up and let. Okay. Before you had been listening before. Anyway. Tom what's going on. Like about our opener but yet -- and we think that one yet we -- that deserved -- better and didn't. Met life partner. I mean I think it's more than just. What happens as I actually I think it -- what they've gone war. Community -- ball accurately -- but it wasn't. -- confident about -- I. Gentlemen you know there and I think me. That means a lot. Not able to -- Bob -- it being small community like that. I think that weighs heavily but I am -- immediately what determined there. You know couldn't handle the Asian market. Their career here what your own thing. No I I think that I've I like. -- language saying about Pat LaFontaine and I wish that Pat LaFontaine. Had just came out instead. So. My career is over it's been great I love you Buffalo. And -- -- in the way that we wanted cheer because I think that you're totally right Pat LaFontaine not only was he. And a Buffalo icon superstar. At the time I mean when I'm talking superstars talking people who grow up during that time. They Wear your Jersey they talk about cheap date -- they love hockey because of the way you play that was Pat LaFontaine. That's what he meant. So I totally agree with that and I totally agree with him being as classy individual. As you would ever want to represent your city you you know you want him to go a lot better that's what I'm looking for. That's Republican or because they also also won was the leader of good teams I think he won the Stanley Cup obviously didn't. But he was a leader a very good teams that brought a lot of great memories to this to the city. That's what I'm looking for that's what Fred Jackson lacks in this argument. Is that there is no you're the face of the franchise. Win some of the greatest moments in the franchise happen and you were an icon who represented our city the right way. If you're gonna argue against Ryan Miller. That's your argument not that he's over rated. That's a terrible argument if you say is over rated. That's not the argument if you wanna make it aren't mean you could say that Ryan Miller was not the face of the franchise. When they accomplished. Big things Eastern Conference finals when they gave us those great memories Ryan Miller was just. The good goal. He was not the face of the franchise -- change. Beckett certainly changed as he is still the face of the franchise though they pay Ville Leino like that he is still the face of the franchise -- change next year as of right now. I'm not on Miller I'm not on Miller because he's because when he's been the face of the franchise is not. When the Sabres accomplished big things it was when Danny Briere was in Chris Drury once and that's. It's not a knock on Miller weather -- about his contract or anything else but rather how we treat him when he goes he's been great. But he hasn't been the guy who represented. Something special for the city that's the way that's the way I am looking at it. At the moment he did win the best not he was incredible that year and that was the year. That was the year if he was gonna do it that was the year if he had gone deeper in the playoffs at the Sabres gone deeper I know we can't score goals. But it's just the way that you look at and hindsight if he had gone deeper I would've been a 100% in Thomas. -- early on sports Sox Saturday -- to. Well I tell -- -- -- guy you know I've always had a place in my heart or was still Devlin. Physically one of the toughest players that I will work well built uniformly bled red white -- out. It was always over shattered by Leon gray Art Shell mark and Carl and Chris Ward called for those guys always made Pro Bowl. He never made the Pro Bowl once in his career earnings we got the house we moved him in the guard but. I have to say probably one of the most toughest players better than ever play the game -- pain -- injury that only got to say about guys. Okay chair and Charlie -- I want to ask because I don't know this right offhand how Joseph doubled last. I don't know that it was on any sort of terms that kind of were talking about like you know depressing terms like. Briere Drury. Fontaine -- -- that era. It seems like I mean I'm not sure. I don't know if you left on bad terms because Charlie and say that in to be honest with -- I would remember right off hand. Sports -- Saturday -- collar and dank -- roll along at 1 o'clock we have Joseph he Erden who is from NBC sports pro hockey talk. He is -- gonna help us preview and why actually were gonna probably talk about the very beginning of the New Jersey Devils New York Rangers. Not that -- score. Right. There's no way they school -- make a bad. Well I'm not sure one they Muslims -- one to someone one. Let's make a bet you -- nine. If in the time that Joseph is not well what's the face off the face -- got to be like 110 is it. In the TV excel when I was gonna say is in the time that Joseph is on with us. What's what's the chances that a gold actually goes in and I'm thinking that's pretty low but you're right if if it starts a little later because of the TV coverage it's not it's not fair. Now but that's too easy. That's for somebody will score by. Will play. That's a good that's good that I like that how about. Food was some sort of food diet something I don't know a -- it's something. We'll negotiate off the Bears some -- what is Mike's widgets. Sports fox Saturday Matthew collar -- -- got a couple of guests come up at 1 o'clock so if you wanna jump in. Weigh in on the conversation about how Buffalo athletes have laughed. And which ones deserved better here on WGR. Sports -- Saturday back here met you column dank cave producing also providing the sports updates. And he will do so as things change this afternoon. New York Rangers facing the New Jersey Devils game the race series knotted up at one apiece that's coming up soon also we're gonna have in about ten minutes fifteen maybe. Joseph yardage on NBC sports stock. Pro hockey is he's gonna come on and discuss the Rangers and Devils series as it begins so it'll be like live tweeting on the year. That makes -- right. Your checks coming -- we've been talking here today as sports talks Saturday about. Players. And the way we wish we could have sent them off -- players the ones that we wish we could have said goodbye in a different way. Just like Kerry -- did yesterday. Walking off basically into the sunset in really picturesque I couldn't have thought of a better way to walk off the mound. And you know I was reminded a little bit of Ken Griffey junior who was carried off the field by his teammates to standing ovation. And then decide to come back the next year and fell asleep in the dugout there was that whole thing. And it kind of puts a bad taste in my -- the way that. He he left you know he had left in perfect terms and then came back. In that wasn't what was supposed to happen. Two of interest in tax coming in 55550. Love your thoughts on anything we're talking about here sports books. One comes and says I based on whether a player was drafted and grows up in teams system then how long how good of a career. If making him early in their career to retirement I may also consider them. I think of Stu Barnes for this and I think that I wish that Stu Barnes had left and a different way. I know we didn't. Start here by any means in Buffalo nor did he retire here but he was a part and a leader on something special. And I think that. Any time you have those plays you can feel Warner's Baltic. Or even the ones that like Stu Barnes was by no means a superstar. You're still gonna feel a little more connection to him and feel worse the way that he left. With no appreciation. For how good he was how much he meant to teams that were really great. So if I can necessarily put it on he must start here or come here really early. Right do you -- that. Yeah. Possibly. -- He didn't start there. Right. A lot of those guys Pedro. Curt Schilling. Mike Lowell even he won a World Series MVP I don't know that people are saying boy we have to send off Mike Lowell correct just because. They've they destroyed Iraqis that series and maybe the World Series MVP is kind of like well it wasn't him somebody else. Rob raise interest thing for this but we're gonna get it we're gonna call from John from Rochester John what's going on. They may have the outside -- ready yeah excellent I you know you bring up a good point and less. Unless we did some -- great. Like make the playoffs. He will be lost in the shuffle but hopefully I'll watch it -- here and I'd I'd be overly there to build this streak since they keep sixty. I was just thinking about it -- on -- he's I think he's like the depth. Best running back in bills history fumble for what I need. Him do on the field now statistically. -- that -- -- that category yet but he he could be actors careers on here but up. He's they have much of -- talent and in man outside -- he he he can he can dominate -- game as you saw. You know the last couple years ago believable. Look at John I mean I'm not saying that he's not really good and I'm not saying that he's not a great guy and all that I just can't. I just can't say that it would really. Tug at the heart strings if he left. I'm not so great terms. From the east teams that were just seven -- -- I I guess I just can't get there where I can get there on a player who is just good. From the 99 Sabres because of how much they accomplished. Well it it and and I do I agree that the other point because. The part you know what we just haven't had a winning team won since he's been here so you're right I think it would be. Forgotten pretty quickly if there happened so I agree at that point but man. What talent he won 000 looking back last year when he was in his prime like -- seem to be very -- the guy the guy was what are the the -- was. You could argue the -- -- -- in the NFL. Yeah you know what an outside if the bills kept it up. And he had been healthy and at a pro bowler all that I think my mind would be different right now. Well you all the other guys the other guys that really I I really dwell on this is Freddy's moralists like if we would have pretty rural. In their first super ball. All we would of one minute game because. -- Would stop the run and then -- that I would pick and and it still kinda ticked me off that he left but he kind of left on his own although he. The bill would give him an offer he wanted -- he's signed with San Francisco. But that would have been not competency if he was an effort -- global. Yeah I don't know if you know Fred's morals to be another guy guy that I would. Look at obviously he's a big personality that I would look at say what I wish we sent him off right I mean I know I know you're saying about him in the first Super Bowl they really could. They really couldn't stop their run it's your right about that begs the called -- yeah. You do. I'm never prepared for that. I I think they do it for awhile that. Yeah I think he's I think even drop in the -- of for awhile so a lot of yeah I like it a lot of interesting conversation about this the Fred Jackson thing I think people make great arguments I'm just not there yet. So we're gonna switch gears a little bit we come back got to take a break and we will talk to julliard pro hockey talk. He's young he's cheap as Colin coward would say. If you -- that earlier this week. Now it and okay while Howard insulted the writers covering hockey said most of them are young and cheap sell and making fun okay. -- -- -- -- -- We'll be right back led -- -- from NBC sports. He will talk about Rangers and Devils we come back here to read GR.
