So we are here until 2 o'clock here on sports stock Saturday sitting in for sell pot GL. And avoided talking about it's something really interesting happen in sports yesterday that you really don't get to see every day. Here's we get to see every day slam dunks you think slam dunks. As somebody called yesterday to show open the Bulldog and retired about. Howell slam dunks are easy yet it's always the highlight that's pretty funny right elegant like added I never thought of it that way but I think that is funny that wouldn't. Something's easy. You call it a slam dunk and yet it's always the highlight. The wise and it was the highlight if it's so easy it's true conundrum. Anyway says something in sports happened yesterday that does not happen every day effect is very rare. Kerry -- got to go out as they say on his own terms. He got to walk off the mound after striking out a batter his final batter ever into retirement. To the tune of 40000. Fans. Screaming his name standing ovation and showing their appreciation for how good Kerry Wood was during his career as -- Great great moment. And it got me thinking yesterday as I was watching it. How many guys. In buffalo sports do I wish this had happened for. How many. And the names came flooding and boy I wish that Michael -- could just skated around one time with a stick up in the air right. -- cash at the same thing is is many issues is the word with hat shake. So many great times that you wish you could have. -- appreciation for OJ Simpson for as bad as it is now with OJ Simpson is ugly as our. Viewpoint of him is at these days. Think about at that time. He just got traded for some. Draft picks and this just doesn't seem right. It seems like OJ even if he was gonna leave interviews gonna go somewhere else via free agency I guess you think the same thing about somebody like Danny prayer Chris Drury. Even though you knew they were gonna leave let's just say okay fine we knew they were gonna leave why don't you wish we could just said. Goodbye and thank you. I know that they left for more money and everybody screwed up the sabres screwed up in May you can call them people call them greedy in this event. What have I don't care what side you're on that. By. When they left they just left and that was it and they -- other places. And then you know -- -- still good factories careers over and you never got the same. Hey honestly man thanks because that was a great run. And I guess where we're at right now with buffalo sports. That run just looks better and better the more we move on. It's not like. Now while we went on to win the Stanley Compton who cares. It's like those those of the the best times since then. It's been first round outs. So. Then came an -- asking is -- buffalo athlete right now who you'll want. Badly to leave buffalo whenever he does let there be free agency whether it be trade whether it be retirement. On the right terms like Kerry Wood did yesterday and either Ralph Wilson Stadium first Niagara center etc. And there's one name that came to mind or that was brought up that I found to be extremely. Extremely interest thing. And I've also got a call so I will let these callers Scott. Say that name's Scott go ahead. They can't hurt me on Oprah. Yeah that that -- to me it's -- exactly that I just he would he would become let's say my my favorite book that he's become. Most people -- -- would it be. -- the story I think you know I think everyone being from you know being too much and York Democrat but this guy came from you know undrafted. Outplayed and treated for minor leaks no one ever expected disrespect it we'll never expecting probably ought obsolete everything. He's never gotten. Got Fred Jackson you make all or you make all the right statements on Fred Jackson. He is unquestionably. Unquestionably. One of the greatest underdog stories in sports at any given moment. And he is undoubtedly. A guy who represents the city and represented seemed perfectly. The problem is the teams that he's been on. By no fault of his own -- -- They have not won. They have accomplished. Absolutely nothing. And when I look at these teams -- far the Fred Jackson has been on. I don't look back at these teams and think. Boy. We need to appreciate them the same way that we look at -- six teams three -- teams. Kelly's teams Andre reed where it's not just. Thanks for being good but it's thanks for everything with the whole team and being a leader being the guy that we look to for years and years. Like we did with with Briere and Drury obviously there's a lot of good players on those teams but those -- the faces. And Fred Jackson. I. Like Fred Jackson as much as anybody else and I think I think that Fred Jackson is an incredible story and a guy that. If you don't. Root for Fred Jackson you've got a problem with you right. But really. The team hasn't done anything. I mean he's a guy that -- cheer for. But I don't think that anybody on the Buffalo Bills or Buffalo Sabres right now. Deserves that kind of treatment to Kerry Wood got yesterday I feel like there's one. There's about one player that you could really make an argument for that you could really fight tooth and -- -- Ryan Miller. And as much venom is there is toward Ryan Miller mostly because he gets paid a lot of money. And you expect him a lot of people expect him to win the vezina trophy every single year because he gets paid a lot of money that there's this. Anger toward him that might prevent people from saying yes when he believes I want to show the appreciation. I can't say anyone on the Buffalo Bills that would change if the bills went to the playoffs this year. This that would absolutely change Ryan Fitzpatrick would be that guy even if they just went to the playoffs once when Fitzpatrick laughed. He would be that guy. And Fred Jackson will be that guy Stevie Johnson will be that guy we would talk about them. In the same kind terms because they would be the guys who turn the franchise around and got them to the playoffs after so long. But right now. I can't do it I can't say it I can't cinnamon Fred Jackson leaves that. I will really be upset. If Ralph Wilson Stadium is an all on their feet cheering his one for Fred Jackson. And that's not to say anything bad about him it simply say they think he just has been on a team that's done any thing. You could say well it's not all his fault he's been very good. Okay. He's right he's been very good but I'm not nostalgic about these teams at all. There's nothing there's not been pulled me toward these teams like there is with the 0607 sabres. Nothing nothing is hold me back on the east teams and thinking well -- everybody could have been better in those days and don't really care. Sure the story that it's not written yet of course it's not but I can't I can't go ahead in just. Right and that they make the playoffs and -- and you can Ville Leino is gonna score fifty goals next year we'll cheer him to. Greatness. Yeah well because it's unfortunately. Right now probably Ville -- would be the last guy that anybody would be cheering off the ice blue -- would be more like it for Billy. He would he would I don't know who would be below him but let's let's get a call an -- Jackson and then I wanna ask you about Ryan Miller. What's what's going on. I met you don't want to how good a good -- -- at a clinic on the real facts that. Two things one would you brought the question not -- popular within the situation and acted the way you. Show it on the air. But she did he give you information about how we still might still like that. We felt that based on the poster. Also the accomplishments. But who was the thought of winning look at C. Kerry -- with what kind of person you want to help like let the same time actually people expect. The gentleman that called it the people elect project scum like CJ Stewart what. I look back and look at the character. All of this individual and it also probably represented this city community along with its feet yet if that's what great. The team wins and losses work. So therefore I applaud that cure -- of course you. And agree with him. Based structured that citizens can doubtless. Like to see that actually. So. That others Europe and read about Miller don't get me wrong I love wine cellar. And you know what until he should -- -- -- -- because ball protection. Because personally liability not gonna ask you the he had been -- -- -- He's great person. He's a great player and all the guys and a great up a calculator. It takes a lot butch the arguments on Fred Jackson -- fine I mean I don't have any debate. With Fred Jackson being good person and I don't have any debate about. That wage is a fan base should appreciate good people. Act like Kerry Wood. Wasn't at the forefront of the reinvention. Of the cubs in the early 2000 is becoming an actual contender. Because for years from the freaking eighties. All the way through the ninety's they were mostly a joke. And Karen -- When he came in and struck out wanna in 98. They actually started to become a playoff contender. Year after year. A contender whether they actually made it or not and obviously they were really close to making the World Series 2003. There's Kerry Wood. Right at the forefront being if not these phase of the franchise one of the faces of the franchise. Of winning. At least thought of because of these arm injuries but if you really look at his career he's the ace of a team that. Which of the playoffs and compete for a World Series that had not competed. For years. Now if Fred Jackson -- of the playoffs and he's the face of the franchise one of the three faces we can all agree. Jackson. And Stevie Johnson on the offensive side of the ball. Look at them the same way if they reinvent this team and finally get the back to the playoffs and make contenders. So here's the question on Fred Jackson. Suppose that Fred Jackson had left. Fred Jackson. Screw this I want out I wanna be traded. You guys won't renew my contract suppose that have been the case and it got ugly. Would you have looked back at this time. One years from now the way that we do with hat -- or OJ or Briere Drury where we will look back and say. Boy. I really wish he had gone out on his own terms I really wish Fred Jackson had gone out as long terms. So I don't think that you know you can't put it there. The -- does it look you just have to be a superstar. But he's clearly it's gonna matter whether the team won and the cubs did win when Kerry Wood was their -- they did win they were good they were competitors. So he when we bring up a player -- special to a team that was you know in the Stanley Cup. Or in the Eastern Conference finals it's so much different than a player who was consistently on seven and nine teams. This is you can't help look at it that way. -- gets the clock we got to take a break and cave as a sports update a lot going on sports and I'm glad we could talk about this method collar. -- -- -- Feel free to give -- called chime in. Fred Jackson Ryan Miller these guys that you would stand up and cheer for the -- wish can leave buffalo on the right terms. The way to carry -- did yesterday let's go 8030550. Decades got the update here on WGR. Acura sports talk Saturday Matthew collar here with the new day and cave is producing also handling the sports updates so I don't have to do we're talking about the way athletes have left buffalo in. Obviously. It's a little bit. It's a little bit depressing to talk about about the -- -- so many great athletes. Have left buffalo. And here's what we've run into we've run into a snag when it comes to Fred Jackson because. A lot of people are on the side of saying look Fred Jackson is the ultimate buffalo story. He is a all pro caliber running back he is as good of a guy who's got the story as you'll ever run in two. And when he leaves here he deserves appreciation. Whether the bills. Go to the playoffs when Super Bowl or whether the bills continue to be mediocre at 6107. Night doesn't matter. That Fred Jackson deserves to leave that way I happen to see it as if it it does depend on what happens and I'll make this I'll make the difference right here because. I got a text they came in OJ didn't win. OJ was an all time player. Eight alleged 2000 yards. Icon. Talking about him as a player only that's -- we're talking about. He's one of the greatest football players to ever play. -- Of course you wish things -- better when he left of course you're gonna have a bitter taste in your mouth. Then he ended up being a San Francisco 49ers of course you. And now another text comes in that says -- how great it was Michael -- Well here's the other qualification Michael -- was part of a team that went to the Stanley Cup and he was the heart of that team. I mean obviously. You head Dominique cash -- net. And you had a lot of great defenseman unit Jason Woolley Jay McKee and Brett Warren -- don't we -- -- Sorry Michael -- Was the heart and soul of a team that went to the Stanley Cup you can see the difference. And Michael peck believes by just being traded to the islanders. That makes you mad that and that's what I mean does it. Get your emotion up. That you feel like Michael pack -- and the fans both lost out. On him not being honored the way that he should have -- when he left I feel that way I absolutely feel that way. And when it comes to Fred Jackson. Not yet that's what I wanna -- on Fred Jackson I wanna say not yet we'll get there may be. Get their only if they wind that's the way I look at it. I think that Fred deserves all the credit in the world for who he is and what his story means the buffalo. But unless the Buffalo Bills break this long streak of no playoffs and become relevant nationally and not a joke. Then no I wouldn't really clear the way the Fred Jackson left. Not trying to be mean to say that but honestly I really wouldn't. If Fred Jackson left today left in this off season I wouldn't have sat back and thought. Oh god I wish that Fred Jackson had really been honored before he left I wouldn't have thought that. I would've thought. We got somebody else. If somebody else can be a good running back now if they go to the playoffs I'm looking at that differently. And this is in a totally different viewpoint then you would look at OJ Simpson who's an all time legend who is a Buffalo Bill. Who you just. Do not do not want to think of as a Sanford -- forty niner. You wanna think of them as you have ownership over this great great player and you wish that he had gone out the right way that honored the right way. As opposed to -- he was traded for couple picks you know I guess I guess some projects I know where I stand and I understand why people stand where they stand. Because while they like Fred Jackson a lot. And I don't blame anybody like him Fred Jackson a lot. Now Ryan Miller is more interest thing because Ryan Miller is more accomplished in terms of playoffs. And is in terms of Olympics obviously and is the terms of -- the trophy and things hardware basically. He's more accomplished. Than Fred Jackson by -- a lot. He's an all star caliber goalie. Who has been a mainstay in buffalo through parts of a very good time and parts of then OK time. And I think that there's a lot of venom toward him because of his contract. That he makes too much money for goalie and all this and I wonder if he was leaving he said it was his last game ever if we would give them the treatment if we would want given the treatment that the cubs gave to Carey wore it yesterday. It's gonna -- we got met online Matt what's going on. -- guys I outburst but I think right it's Specter is overrated and overpaid -- outlook heeled I Miller the same way. Paula to see Dell Clark come merit bank -- create great at position. I've heard action adventure yarn aren't like game three. And the ultimate player what the story generator are about our act that is going to be Kurt Warner. Let her call was -- eagle street -- got it all although I blew it so much era saw he had just exploring the ramp I'll have to let. Okay. Before you had been listening before. Anyway. Tom what's going on. Like the proud of anybody mention the thing that one yet achieved that. Deserved better and didn't. But I met a -- but yeah I mean I think that more than that. -- it doesn't. Actually met begins what they've gone to war. Really scroll ball accurately and -- but he wasn't. We complement. Called I started with tell them you know here and I think for me combatant and a lot of Abu. He will become -- block it being small community you're there at the I think of that weighs heavily armed oh immediately what. He's determined there. You know independent television market their career could -- what is your excitement thank. No I I think that I I like it's. A language saying about Pat LaFontaine and I wish that Pat LaFontaine. Head just came out instead. So. -- career is over it's been great I love you buffalo. And let us. Cheer in the way that we want to cheer because I think that you're totally right I'm Pat LaFontaine not only was he. And a buffalo icons superstar. At the time I mean when I'm talking superstar I'm talking people who grow up during that time. They Wear your Jersey they talk about you they -- they love hockey because of the way you play that was Pat LaFontaine. That's what he meant. So I totally agree with that and I totally agree with him being as classy an individual. As you would ever want to represent your city and you do you want him to go out better that's what I'm looking for that's what I'm looking for because I think also. Also all. One that was the leader of good teams and I think he won the Stanley Cup obviously didn't. But he was a leader a very good teams that brought a lot of great memories to this to the city that's what I'm looking for that's what Fred Jackson -- in this argument. Is that. There is no you're the face of the franchise. Win some of the greatest moments in the franchise happen and you were an icon who represented our city the right way. If you're gonna argue against Ryan Miller. That's your argument not that he's overrated. That's a terrible argument if you say over rate. That's not the argument if you wanna make it aren't mean you could say they're Ryan Miller was not. The face of the franchise. When they accomplished. Big things Eastern Conference finals. When they gave us those great memories Ryan Miller was just. The good gold. He was not the face of the franchise that could change. Beckett certainly changed as he is still the face of the franchise though they pay Ville -- like that he is still the face of the franchise Mecca change next year but as of right now. I'm not on Miller. I'm not I'm Miller because he's because when he's been the face of the franchise is not. When the sabres accomplished big things it was when Danny Briere was and Chris Drury was. And that's. It's not a knock on Miller whether yell about his contract or anything else but rather. How we treat him when he goes he's been great. But he hasn't been the guy who represented. Something special for the city that's the way that's the way I'm looking at it. At the moment he did win the best not he was incredible that here and that was the year. That was the year if he was gonna do it that was the year if he had gone deeper in the playoffs at the sabres -- gone deeper I know we can't score goals. But it's just the way that you look at and hindsight if he'd gone deeper I would have been a 100% in on this. Charlie on sports Sox Saturday -- -- -- I tell -- -- -- a guy Leo I've always had a place in my heart or was -- government. Physically one of the toughest players that I -- well bill -- -- bled red white and blue up. We always overshadow everybody Leon grey Art Shell -- mark and Carl and Chris Ward call for those guys always made Pro Bowl. He never made the Pro Bowl want to in his career earnings we -- the house we moved him in the guards but. I have to say probably one the most toughest players that -- than ever played the game to pain and injury that I'll get to say about guys. Okay -- okay Charlie I I wanted to ask because I don't know this right offhand how Joseph -- left. I don't know that it was on any sort of terms that kind of we're talking about like in -- depressing terms like. Briere Drury well Fontaine hashing Cutera. It seems like I mean I'm not short. I don't know if you left on bad terms because Charlie and say that in to be honest with the I -- remember right off hand. Sports -- Saturday Matthew collar and dank cave -- along at 1 o'clock we have Joseph we Erden who is from NBC sports pro hockey talk. He is gonna help us preview and -- actually we're gonna probably talk about the very beginning of the New Jersey Devils New York Rangers. Not that old score. Right. There's no way they still let's make a bed and let's make a bet you -- nine. If in the time that Joseph is not well what's -- face off the face -- got to be like 110 -- and -- the TV excel what I was gonna say is. In the time that Joseph is on what does. What's what's the chances that a gold actually goes in and I'm thinking that's pretty low but you're right it. If it starts a little later because of the TV coverage it's not it's not fair. Now but that's too easy. Tips to somebody will score by. Will play. That's a good that's a good -- Sports -- Saturday Matthew collar dank cave got a couple of guests come up at 1 o'clock so if you wanna -- weigh in on the conversation about how buffalo athletes have laughed. And which ones deserved better here on WGR. Sports talk Saturday back hair Matthew cholera dank cave producing also providing the sports updates. And he will do so as things change this afternoon. New York Rangers facing the New Jersey Devils game three series knotted up at one apiece that's coming out soon and also we're gonna have been about ten minutes fifteen maybe. Julliard and of NBC sports stock. Pro hockey talk that is he's gonna come on and we're gonna discuss the Rangers and that the devils series as it begins so it'll be like. Live tweeting on the air. That makes sense right to checks coming -- we've been talking here to transport stocks Saturday about. Players. And the way we wish we could have sent them off buffalo players the ones that we wish we could have said Dubai in a different way. Just like Kerry -- did yesterday. Walking off basically into the sunset in. Really picturesque I couldn't have thought of a better way to walk off the -- And you know I was reminded a little bit of Ken Griffey junior who was carried off the field by his teammates to -- standing ovation. And then decided to come back the next year and fell asleep in the dugout there was that whole thing. And it got to put their bad taste in your mouth the way that he he left you know he had left in perfect terms. And then came back. In that wasn't what was supposed to happen. -- of interest and tax coming in 55550. Love to hear your thoughts on anything we're talking about here on sports on Saturday. One comes and says I base it on whether a player was drafted and grows up in the team's system then how long how good of a career. If they came early in their career to retirement I may also consider them. I think of Stu Barnes for this and I think that I wish its new Barnes had left in a different way. I know we didn't. Start here by any means in buffalo nor did he retire here but he was a part and a leader on something special. And I think that. Anytime you have those plays you can feel mourners Baltic. Toward even the ones that like Stu Barnes was by no means is superstar. You're still gonna feel a little more connection to him and feel worse the way that he left. -- -- no appreciation. For how good he was how much he meant to teams that were really great. So up like -- necessarily put it on he must start here or come here really early. Rob raise interest thing for this but we're gonna get it we're gonna call from John from Rochester John what's going on and. They met via an outside Freddy Jackson I you know you bring up a good point unless. Unless we do something in great. Like make the playoffs. He will be lost in the shuffle but I'll sign up like and Freddie yet tonight -- -- all the -- -- -- -- street and they keep sixty. I was just thinking about it -- on hole. He's I think he's like the -- Asked running back in bills history from what I see. Him do on the field now statistically. -- -- nick at a category yet but he he could be actors' careers on here but up. Each step much of -- talent in in -- al-Qaeda. EE EK contaminated game that you saw. You know the last couple years ago believable. Look at John I mean I'm not saying that he's not really good and I'm not saying that he's not a great guy and all that I just can't. I just can't say that it would really. Tug at the heart strings if Heath left. I'm not so great terms from these teams that we're just. Seven and nine I I guess I just can't get there where I can get there on a player who is just good from the 99 sabres because of how much they accomplished. Well they present and I -- I agree with the other point because of the -- you know what we just haven't had a winning team won since he's been here so you're right I think he would beef. For gotten pretty quickly. If there -- so I agree at that point but man what a talent he level -- apple looking backlash here when he was in his private life accuracy that we are together. The guy the guy was political. He was you could argue that that's really Beckett in the NFL. Yet you know what an outside if the bills kept it up and he had been healthy and that a pro bowler all that. I think my mind would be different right now. Audio the other guys the other guys that really I I I really dwell on this is Freddy's -- -- -- we could hit -- merlot. In their first super ball. All we would've won that game because. Merlot. Let's stop the run and then man at I would pick and then it still kind of ticked me off that. He left and he got a lot on his own although each bill would give them an offer he wanted to cease signed the -- Siskel. But there would have been competency if he was an effort suitable. Yeah I don't know if you know Fred's -- the other guy guy that I would look at obviously he's a big personality that I would look at say. Well I wish we sent him off right I mean I know I know you're saying about him in the first Super Bowl they really could. They really could stop their -- -- -- right about that affects the college I print out. -- I'm never prepared for that. I I think you have for awhile -- Yeah I think he's I think even drop in the -- of for awhile so a lot of I like it. A lot of interesting conversation about -- the Fred Jackson thing I think people make great arguments I'm just not there yet. So we're gonna switch gears a little bit we come back got to take a break and we will talk to julliard enough pro hockey talk he's young he's cheap. As Colin coward would say if you caught that earlier this week. Now he didn't okay well. Powered insulted the writers covering hockey said most of them are young and cheap cell making fun of OK anyway let's take a brief picture. We'll be right back led -- yard and from NBC sports. He will talk about Rangers and devils we come back here and WGR. You or -- sports -- Saturday Matthew -- all along with my producer for today. The end okay also handling the sports updates and Chiming in when he can't we can't quite a few calls on our issued today which takes. -- hands away from the microphone. Joseph yard and expected to join us in just a couple of minutes he comes from NBC sports network pro hockey talk. You if you don't follow him and read him on Twitter and York aren't what you should also on Twitter. At Matthew WG yard and of course we're gonna talk a little bit about. New York Rangers in New Jersey Devils and maybe will touch on the other series as well in the Western Conference. 30. Los Angeles Kings up on the Phoenix Coyotes. Got a lot to talk about some interest and stuff obviously Martin Brodeur is on the view Ilya Kovalchuk rise. Against. A lot of people saying certain things about certain races of players that just don't make a lot of sense musical charts performances. Have pretty much gone completely against that so we bring in Joseph right now julliard for pro hockey talk NBC sports Joseph Howard. Or greater threat and yes thanks for coming up look at Joseph we've been talking a lot today about Kerry Wood and -- a little bit of a curve ball the way he. The way he walked off yesterday was the epitome of how a player can leave. His career and it I'd say it's even better than winning the Super Bowl walking off because you're doing it in front of your own fans. In hockey right now the whole league you cover the entire NHL who is the one player that you could not stand if they didn't go out the right way. -- in a man whose bodies that it would be that the pro ball I think he would dedicate strikeout gave her right there. Okay -- That they. Well personally for me a lot of it is -- it's certainly true that would've been sort of a bad -- yeah I think so Brodeur. If -- see what -- able to go out. You know going -- the playoffs or something like that go to pretty -- the -- Most of these old guys I would I would end -- putting your putting on the yeah. The pedestal like that isn't even under it was a way for electorate yet received. If he would be edited after the season you know going to the playoffs and -- game that it that would have been. The little sad that you little equity. Exactly I think all the excitement -- with the legend dot -- you don't want him going out by going riding high -- I'm sure that every local market has their guy and we were talking about. Whether fans your buffalo feel that way about Ryan Miller is I think that some have a little bit of a bitter taste in the mouth of the last two years that he hasn't really. Performed up to snuff but. -- -- to the playoffs now let's let's talk about the playoffs here I read something interesting on pro hockey doctor wasn't written by you but the headline is. Ex referee Frazier brown hurting his reputation -- diving now correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't his reputation diving. It's one of its reputation. That the bad truly gotten to be known appropriate however that doesn't. That doesn't seem to be stopping anybody from. From operating income for playing -- like that -- the play the part of the street that. Did you know that they think but I don't believe in Beirut at all. Other than -- -- -- well in being the main that it should be concerned about it but I do with a look at -- person. He's got a goalie that that they get away with flopping around and little else you know you can't -- -- installed when you're just sitting sitting neglect their well. I thought the same exact thing win with him it seemed like look. Your players are treated just as much as the other ones and just like in the NBA it becomes a big point of contention in the MBA but it's kind of like. There's no real waited to stopping at the referee just has to use his discretion. And there's no use really complain about it. And I think it. -- it's a referee's discretion thing and it's something that only one of the crackdown and yeah at different times and over over the course of many years and they eat -- -- -- plan in place where they're gonna be able such as for the I think it actually. Little to suspend the that they get in the to a tree contact. And never come the selection that you think the guys that are. Guilty of being -- out there you think you'll need to go airport guys don't let the -- was not even. In the airport got a bad reputation for you know first job without a guy that. It's admitted this to definitely get away with -- you know their whole career without any different protection and they believed would hear about it they would do something about it you know referees got enough problems rather go without. Have to worry about -- they can -- ping timeout so what he was stratified call. I kind of feel like they have done something about it it's stopped calling penalties penalties this year power play opportunities per team. -- at their lowest since 1968. And people look at why is there more goals why is the more goals we go back to right after the lockout they're calling everything. All the little clutches and grabs trips and everything. And there was a lot more scoring won't be whole big surprise I mean I think we're seeing pretty much a perfect storm of know scoring. When it comes to actually eastern and Western Conference but especially. Rangers -- devils two teams that are superior. Defensive teams in an era in which you don't get many power plays you don't get many chances to score right. And that that the I think that it's disturbing to me because we. The -- like you -- after the lockout the big thing was was calling penalties but look at. And don't think you know in making sure that seemed that there -- -- other opportunities to score. In -- cracking down into the that the structure but that was the -- saying it. Over the years it's kind of going away illiterate. Well that's because they're -- -- getting that by eight by -- isn't culture and an expert theological work. Just because you know that they -- video that played all of the decided. He let the play that decided the game that if you just go like -- get away with regular rules and it's the league's call bigotry and yeah yeah. We've seen the -- stuff for a guy that you're gonna tell. That you're getting a truckload. -- and forward on top of a little bit longer than normal. And stuff like that -- move that's no longer willing to give I don't know everybody concerned about speeding concussion at all. Mean that you can slow -- McCain you're not watches hockey anymore as far as I'm concerned it's being part of the game. The deal would it appropriately. And in calling the -- -- -- -- I think you make a great point there you know Joseph by the way I'm impressed that you're able to come on at this time because the game is underway. I'll let you know we got a little but going my producer for today Dan cave and myself. That nobody would score by the time that we're off the phone with you. So on we'll see how that works out I'm I'm glad you could work this out how well. I got to ask you about John toward -- in the press conferences I know that you know. I saw what what you were saying on Twitter I was saying some things on Twitter -- might take on this. Is first of all the John toward relative does not care it it's all about his team no matter what he doesn't mind these -- your feelings and I guess I don't care about that. And the last thing anybody wants the year is media complaining that's another thing. And I don't mind the coach who decides to put the pressure on himself and put the criticism on himself from the media and take it off some of his players I was. Perfectly fine that in fact I was tickled by. Yeah. Let you know I look at Iraq and I think for Ralph and -- not. Always the middle -- completely out of line. A lot of -- a lot of other reporters and and folks immediately. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And that. Yeah you know I would be -- its goal it was coral press conference that -- you literally just losing your expecting them to. It to a fixed around the clock can you give you and I feel like I think the -- this plot. You're going into that first opportunity absolute wrong idea -- -- not to talk about it you know and keep all -- -- the real lucky that. And he's not gonna throw anybody under the pot. Not to criticize the players and put more heat up because he knows the that's the cause more problems. And for you don't forget that. It is you know everybody thinks he's -- -- all about him and see you this but her for the right reasons you know you get. Pretty much open access to most of the players in the rangers' locker room after the game if you wanna get that clock cycle itself Laporte well if you're trying to sell -- story around. -- relatively what you. Hey you know what it's Fatah out of that's in doing what they you know what they did -- and if you're gonna be ready to very short story is -- is -- have a report because he. Not gonna do that just about what he's going to do you might have to do. The wait until you know the immediate -- -- -- next -- a couple of cold you boot -- that he wouldn't effect is it just that. You're not going to execute its players the focus of the problem. Talking with Joseph -- pro hockey talk -- my favorite guys follow on Twitter. Remind its Joseph yeah Erden Ph.D. I got that right on -- -- -- -- -- awesome I'm -- -- The New Jersey Devils were not on anybody's radar to be here right now I mean I'm not trying to make them into some unbelievable. Underdog because they were very good all year but I don't think anybody with the power of the flyers Rangers penguins. Anybody expect them to be here right now and I think that. One guy who's really come into the limelight I think we all knew that helical -- was good and we all Marty brokers could even though he's found the fountain view its -- the war. His strategy against the flyers to me was absolutely brilliant and his. Stayed away kind of -- -- like we're not gonna get involved in that crap like the penguins did. I think that he's kind of put himself on the map has made -- one of the league's best coaches in this in this playoffs. He's done a really nice job with a double -- -- yeah it does the reason why would ever go higher it was was for -- The Panthers team he coached before you know before. Or let it in New Jersey way to get the double play with intensity in your face it played very tough defensively you know that they didn't score well. -- -- the wind blew my form but they did but. The interstate -- top of everybody that's exactly what these double and they they. For a check everybody that that there -- -- I can do it and they're you know they're very defensively response all the talk to that second score goals. David Clarkson had surgery that he adamantly probably you know you can pick all the finalists. In order to think that cold Turkey got healthy -- Jack. -- the -- -- that. And the -- found a way that -- -- in the balcony. You look at -- and from from the important you know that one of the big criticism was that. You keep the that you are -- the players. You know what you have you look at the double play that you don't -- -- -- -- -- -- effect they'll stick up for each other. -- -- And you push forward it made the right moves in here consult well yes and worse and structure that -- that there's. -- -- who -- -- -- hadn't eaten making sure that the you know the veteran there. Staying strong look and talk and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that about it. -- -- -- doubled -- -- reported accurately and I think I'll -- No they don't even play the same old trapped strategy is people always seemed to say they do either I feel like they do play more of an open an exciting game but. Unfortunately. This series so far has not been open is not that exciting I guess. One thing they -- is troubling me is I feel like whoever wins this series is the person. Who gets all weird bounce off the boards or has something just bizarre happen. Somebody's stick breaks in their own zone and it turns to -- all I feel like. These these two teams it's just gonna come down to pure luck I guess that kind of upsets me I want one team to be better than the other one and that's why they win not just well that team got lucky and that's what happened. All the same thing it'll actually if you have that sense he's lucky he went the teaching -- -- -- we. And in this there's the picture you'll put that in the series where. -- played so tight. It's just one out here that they decided. It's that was it for the Rangers and their first -- series follow it doesn't -- -- -- no one breaker and other than you know lots more -- the first trying to think what -- -- I was still just one of those things where things just Oakland and go play in in the way that they needed to go. And that's. You know that that's how the Rangers negotiated -- be -- in that way you'll that you -- elegantly they can play defensively but. It felt like it when you're neglecting your ability to put team the way by more than a goal. -- that extra money exchanges -- and that is fighting. -- to decide -- and into the -- they would much rather. In my credit score goal without a Republican pretty. It has that you know what they take their opportunity. But that they basically the shell game in the third period -- -- there is back there. -- just the don't think that'll look Simon and not really worry about pushing for that one more coal and that you know the trying to seal the game away at. At that frustrating to watch that certainly the case that and effectively rapidly and that out west so that there's at least that. We hope that the finals can be it can bring about exactly. We've just seen in the slaughterhouse -- what's. I mean you know what -- saying about the rangers' power play -- they gonna get better New Jersey had the number one penalty kill whole week -- new Jersey's. PK hasn't been. Outstanding in the playoffs but you know that they're gonna return to being who they are which is great penalty killing team what before I let you go to jail. And I really appreciate coming on that side. Just the west. It's been just the kill and it looks like the kings are gonna move on. Which one of these teams would you rather see not from like a biased standpoint I know people will attack you on Twitter as they -- About just. Which of these teams vs the kings. Is gonna be more exciting. I hate to say this because I I feel like it's the Rangers basically. Because I Hendrick Lundqvist I mean I feel like he's at this point in his career a better goalie you basically have the two best goalies going up that it. From this season if you take out like Smith from the equation. I feel like you would be more exciting to see. -- Rangers maybe that's -- -- now that East Coast biased I'm just getting there Albany's what do you think. That that you're looking more upbeat period. -- you want without Clinton I just because. Then they can then double play the game they played aggressive. Fortunate in that push the pace a little bit. We've got to go for -- you'll -- -- you -- negated vernacular. About an interest in the game. The white the first -- put the concern however. -- seeing going to make critics say it than just the acrobatic monsters and yet -- lenders and it certainly is -- quicken and Henrik Lundqvist there are. Yeah probably the two best guys in the playoffs right now. You have been -- quick quick as the I didn't stellar in the playoffs but you know he's capable of doing that we thought -- -- -- -- -- How would you -- that series so. Is it that I didn't -- -- anyways but I think if you look at the games themselves to be excited you want to double. Let's hear an appeal -- super starts playing that perhaps there in New York Rangers. You know I think either way if we can just get through these conference finals which in all honesty just not been great to watch. I think we're in for good Stanley Cup match I think which either one of these teams plays the kings as as you outlined right there you have some good matchups. When it comes the whether it's the doubles or whether it's the Rangers to take on the kings but man I gotta say. They always talk about those casual fans which I don't think even exist in hockey. And there always thought about -- what's good for the casual fan what's good for the casual fan not this. But maybe the Stanley Cup will be so anyway Joseph I really appreciate you coming on great job buddy was a great to have -- julliard and pro hockey talk NBC sports and I'll try again with the Twitter account Joseph -- in Ph.D. got it. I read it very true that is fun time thanks a lot joke. Here. Joseph -- pro hockey talk follow him on Twitter I just gave it is. He's very he's very entertaining on Twitter and does a lot of great work he is good Guyanese he's a central new Yorker. I think -- humor break on that right. He's a new Yorker by the is is not biased toward one team the other -- he made quite clear okay well. Wait for an update. Dan is gonna let us know what's going on whether we one of us won or lost the bad weather team would score. By the time Joseph got off the phone. So is gonna give up that right now sports -- Saturday at WGR.
