Hey thanks for anyone mean today I am able Mike is got the day out that he will be rejoining the program tomorrow. -- hear all about his adventures. If there's really anything -- -- regarding adventures Barry please right now to welcome back to the show. From the CBC to find -- -- candidate Elliot Friedman Canada join me I know it's Chris here in buffalo are you. Not that say don't say I'm doing well I appreciate you squeeze in the Senate's -- what is the very busy time of the year for you guys in Hockey Night in Canada. Your thoughts and the playoffs so far and where where we're at right now with the Rangers knotted at two and to the coyotes have a fighting. Well you know I think that it's been. I think it's been an interesting time I mean there's there's no question about. There was a lot of supplies as early on. You know there'll -- the -- is certainly has been. A bit of an issue with all the shot blocking but you know -- it's a good question that's because you know at this point I'm when you're betting series. You don't really think about you know the big picture. And you know I'm I'm wondering about that like some of the time that happened in the playoffs. You look -- we've seen that fired their coach is that it during this season he's -- around does that mean Ortiz and try that next year. -- -- The -- in the LA games that barely made the playoffs now one way. I'm going away into the Stanley Cup final does that mean nineties aren't thinking now it. If you have if you gave -- memory you have hole. I'm field shot blocking our -- McCain the way they play because of the success the Rangers -- I think. And also include you look at all like the big spenders -- Who either didn't playoffs and got knocked out early and what that means they're gonna do this offseason I think it's. But it didn't really is -- summer. All overblown if at all is the shot blocking question only because that's what I was thinking about like how they're going and I'm glad you abuse you took it and ran -- all these different directions and I look forward to maybe talking about in depth each of them. I I think it's overblown a little bit I do I'm. You know. I think didn't wanna sit on the air couple days ago that -- of -- -- that eleven shot blocking he's here actually. Well I know Montreal for example was one of them they were great shot blocking -- and they didn't come close. You know I I do think you may see some discussion about it. Do we have the limit -- -- -- the rules should players not be allowed to leave their feet before they blocked shots probably back. But you know you look at the way the only way. They're not. They're not exactly I shot blocking these big load there and they pressure you wouldn't pressure you when you look at that doubles. They're not a huge shot blocked indeed they go out there and they've actually human factories so. I think there will be a lot of bought a boat maybe playing more like in the way those two teams played more as opposed to block shots especially if they've both made the -- To argue it Elliot Friedman from the CBC you know from Hockey Night in Canada I mobile blogging -- listening to WGR Elliott. On the the point about you get immersed in your own series in a moment may not like you know look at. How good the games are maybe with with some objectivity. I'm curious if you have a thought on just the overall this would include the shot blocking point of course. But the overall caliber of the games like I I I might be a little bitter tournament buffalo might win one round in five years but -- I feel -- the game is sliding back to before the lockout from a style standpoint what what are your thoughts on. You know it's not a citizen -- -- speakers. Birdie and one of the devils series I walked into that devils' dressing room there was a reporter there is certainly a -- -- and watch -- -- I was like really. And I think it's different because I want to buy it right well I they're usually in the -- Zamboni gates and I watched the unions and from -- to me it looks release. Yeah really competitive so I think it's certainly possible but it -- trend that thousands -- by the as well. As it does on TV I will tell you one thing I agree one they have to -- this. Okay plot goes that your own and mr. Huntsman blasted -- Player since it's so there's no light singer tries to make the players so there's no place -- and then everybody goes down the other currencies the plot. But that bus stop that. That it's happening too much and I think a lot of coaches will tell you that it is something that they have to change. But the only way to do that is if you bring back in the Red Line. And there are guys don't wanna bring it back I mean. It's it's a hard question because. -- I think the only way you're gonna see it seems is that is that there have been other crackdown I do think that's. A possibility on interference but I understand where you're coming from. I -- think dean is so fast now and so competitive but I wonder -- the biggest problem is what you see live doesn't translate as well and what you see on LO. I have no doubt about that -- outside stood down the Zamboni doors and it is you know here here at the first Niagara center is they wildly different game the most. The most boring game in the world from the 300 level or from your couch. Books super exciting crop to get there it is there's intensity there's Natalee and you see the appeal that -- you see the emotion of the players. In their faces no doubt about that. -- -- -- On the idea that. Some fans. Some media might respond to it this way that were always tinkering with the game -- there's always a problem with the game. It. Mike and I were sitting -- saying geez I don't -- animals feel like I'm crying wolf. Because the viewership here in the states is all the playoffs have been a success. For the most part on TV here on NBC and NBC sports network. Do you think the game and is a problem. No I I I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about it the CRL. I understand there's some duels. But he seemed to quickly but. No portraits of the best way that I don't job like if you wanna post about spots -- you're so you can. You've probably talked after every show or every week that you say. All right what was -- what was and is there anything we got injured sinker and make it better I don't see anything wrong with that I think I think we all we should be looking at ourselves -- And the sport nervous wardens say. Well how do we make it better people who elect stops stops in. That's not how you move forward and if you're not thinking forward the year you're moving backwards really so. I don't see anything wrong with having discussions went into the -- and pay. You have to be willing to go out there and say what do we do that so what we try them. And I wish they used the exhibitions. Sometimes. Saw anything like that. -- maybe this is it going to be a rule in the regular season but what sort this much -- would like but art exhibition game. With no red oh it with the Red Line back here and what's what it's like I would be HL did more of that actually. Talking with Elliot Friedman from the CDC here on WGR. One other story line and then maybe we actually have some time to talk about games on the ice in the match -- here that -- left in the conference finals. We've gone from earlier in the playoffs only -- from talking about the dangerous it's in the suspensions and all that to a lot of talk lately of diving. What kind of emphasis might there be moving forward beyond these playoffs maybe the next year on modifying rules regarding that. Well you know I think that came -- the other day because Dave -- made. Made an issue out of it Messina accelerate serious. I don't know I think diving has been the issue for a long time -- There are known guys dive and there are known teams who drives and -- I think one of the issues with Dustin Brown. And ill will look back there was only one game suspension. Is that. Brown has the reputation we play in the Ontario hockey -- Imposed their players he has this nickname was hauled down well. And I think -- it's almost it's almost certain guys around. And I think ultimately you do chase or when you do it because you don't get the call in the big situations sometimes -- How I don't know I remember a few years ago there was a -- list -- people who were called for diving to put it up. I have no problem with that year and on -- let everybody know it I don't think you need to legalize that I think is let everybody know it. And then when you don't get the call -- at the big moment. Hey it's your own fault it's like the boy who cried wolf you're not reputation. It's hard to shake. All right I'm on the ice the series and we'll start out west with with what's you know what's left their 31. And you can Phoenix you'd think. Make a series this sir is it -- tomb too steep hill. I just don't see them beating the -- and Jonathan Quick 4 times -- I am I just don't see it I know that if they do it. I'll be the first one that saved forty I was wrong I didn't think this was gonna happen but I don't way to Q2 played and the way that holiest played. Chris I just don't see them beating them four times no view. All know it's hard it's hard to it's hard Z Orleans with especially in the quick. You know all a lot of goalies. You take a look at around the league we've talked about it frequently on the show. It's a big point that like makes often. About just Powell may be leveled the playing field does is it pertains to goaltending it's never been better in the league lead widely most teams have a guy that's. At least -- Quick. Is on. Moving side to side with his legs it's close it's not a lot of holes there. No there's no I mean who openness change do you guys are right when you talk about that is that first of all that you -- I was kid growing up. Somalis. It was always the goal. Like if you go play goal and the big guys there was one of the big guys skaters on how the biggest kids are becoming goals. And that's a big change equipment supplies equipment obviously. Is is a huge change to. And you know I think would you look at that also they're better skaters. So when they're bigger people and they're bigger and bigger equipment there's not a lot of -- cash -- debt. And that's why kind of wonder someday down the road. They're gonna have no choice but to make the next bigger and I know there's a lot of traditionalists and eight. I understand that. But I think the more I watch it now the more I think you've almost got to make it happen this. Or at least have a serious conversation about it. Because the -- he's too good and and also curious look at the weight goals -- score we don't see goals scored that much off the roster anymore. It's a shot that maybe get through a couple of guys sort. It's slightly below those in I mean they have to do something to bring back the element of the watched back into the game. Yeah boy I I wholly agree with that I think between that point about the nets in the sides of the goalies. And then the shot blocking conversation that we led off with. When you've got a sport where guys are shooting wide regularly intention and we just hope for a bounce in front in a -- To score a goal I think you you've got to vastly different sports and we grow -- is what we yeah. I agree with that in and I've always believed the deal was meant to be played off the -- that skillful players that the way that the best players score that way the most beautiful goals are scored that way. And unfortunately there just aren't enough of them anymore. In a few minutes left here with Elliot Friedman of the CBC's in a Hockey Night in Canada. Okay how about in the east here to two this is really followed form for the Rangers -- it. Win win a game lose a game losing -- they can't get a two two game lead. It this series of a political point clip from the outset and I don't think there's any reason to change. Well I've I think the Rangers and a little bit trouble because I think they're getting worn down and you know they've they've played they've put a lot of teams. And they play hard files like the in the way they play it it's not easy on your body your block these shots you're you're having contact it's very physical. It's it's -- it's it's a pop style of play. A lot of -- wit and art in audio they refuse to use the -- tired and I respect what they do expecting some of their guys are getting more now Andrea and into -- well -- -- one thing is perhaps the best player in the -- but one guy who could win the whole series by himself but not one course. But need some help and and their descent who played unbelievably well I need some help from their top six guys you know. Kreider got three goals in the series but other than that. It's -- empty netter matches like these guys and I do think Richards at times is made. Huge play I think -- -- could exclude a bit but you'll Jabber you're step on Callahan actually a goalie in the net. They really need these guys step up and make plays because I think that team is really starting to Wear down and I think you know. As war is one was serious should he win. You can win two more games by himself in this series yes but it people on the space in the kings in the -- I just don't see them and having a chance. The way they're going offensively. You know -- I think that such an excellent point about the style and their wearing down because really all year mean what what what led them to that the the place they held in the standings most of the years that. Night in night out but that's all they want games that they weren't blown anybody out they didn't have the office to do that they had to play. Everybody buy in the make -- our opponent's style and really there's a reason may be a lot of teams don't do that 82 games you know all. -- and really you really exacted -- on. Well I think I think between Stanley Cup but I really believe -- you need to have a short series some more. And you look at Boston last year they played 37 game series. But they have also I think they had a sweep in the second round. And I think that is so valuable and feel the way they -- at the rangers' go to the Stanley Cup final -- -- play at seven. A seven and maybe another one at least to six. And -- I don't bought a ticket this year with the games are so intense and the only during the regular season it happens once awhile you get your third game in four nights -- unity in the you don't get up again and in your -- your back. That happened. But that doesn't happen in the playoffs not at this point. You know when you get the Stanley Cup final you gonna play it teammates you you're the last thing between them and the car now. But imagine what that is to regulate. These freaking guys are gonna prevent us from winning the Stanley Cup you know what we're gonna play them our hardest woman to leave everything out there. And you know what that that's what they're points 200 and the -- -- going to be like that soon but. You know you look at big chains for example which means that an accused of -- -- short series and a chance of another one that finishing tonight. Even the trail -- played and in the current going to be different that they come back they're gonna have to play seven but their second round series was apply and I think -- desperately out there have and I warrior put that for the region's. -- I hate to -- -- such a negative note but I'm I'm curious what your thoughts on. What the down the road here on September 15 is looming. To what are your thoughts. Truncated albeit because we're up against the clock here on a potential work stoppage in the league. Well I'm -- -- my heart says they're gonna sources so. My brain says we're gonna have a short. I really hope there's a willingness to make a deal but I don't. -- -- I think they're. You know the fact they haven't even started talking -- There's not a great sign -- I know they wanna wait all the players are Don but I don't like it there's enough on that you get started now. And I just I think you're probably looking at. A situation where maybe your first games around if I had to get space somewhat most people say. I would not say our first game is around you -- banks yet. -- thank you so much we had high expectations at the last time -- around and you met and time and according to -- on the road. All crystal flatter me it's a low bar no I managed to fall under it every time. Thank you very much awaited parade in the CBC in Hockey -- in Canada. From the streets of Manhattan by the way. Joining us here on the program we thank him. For his time in. 11 guy who really he really knows what's what cover in the league is being in the you know Thanksgiving. America.
