Hi everybody I feel left out. I can't claim the Mets like I could once claimed the Mets because I am. -- happy to discuss. Bounce around with my loyalties. In in sports teams and careful not to do that about the buffalo teams that can -- that ended Dicey or could but. The -- By age twelve I mean they were just. My favorite thing in the world. Philosophy for the cubs -- five cardinals 86 the -- well 86. When in need to describe it. Lots of a mixed. A couple of great moments of course the 86 playoffs rank first. But why I don't know ten years ago I just didn't feel like I needed to be attached to them. There was and fourteen anymore and -- really get. I needed to make sense that it didn't really make sense to me that I was loyal to this one team that I never went to go see. That had no players that I liked like you just why was -- doing that while I was and I'm willing to her play the market. It wasn't. What what happened was it was and so much the it didn't turning into anywhere quest for a new favorite team -- -- you can fake it and only interest decides -- something and then you know while but I think the it's kind of backwards but I've enjoyed. Following different teams and really not having. That being beach wrote. As it were but with that I missed something last night that I otherwise would have felt if that were my team all along. It would have been more more profound and it probably wouldn't have missed the game. It's Friday night. When the sabres are off in the you know the offseason. Friday nights are usually. Not a sports night for me just. Put some music on my wife and I'll just do some work around the house or just drink some wine whatever might be her mother was over last night. And it was not this. Phone's on vibrate so I finally check -- the game is over after ten -- got a slew of messages. Missed the whole thing. Caught the press conferences they were interest thing and we can talk about that a little bit here if you want met -- -- how much you you watched. But Terry Collins was Super Tuesday after that game he was great because. The pitch count thing was was part of the building drama basically from. You know I got home about the seventh inning my girlfriend and I went out to dinner last night got home at the seventh inning. And I was watching and my phone because it you know who's paying attention to Twitter -- and everyone's saying. Scott too many pitches he's got 93 in the sixth inning too many pitches too many pitches so. Collins that it a lot of interesting comments about that -- game. Well he seemed very almost distraught. By his decision to leave -- -- -- their Collins was really emotional he often is I mean I like that about the he doesn't hide his feelings very well a few tries and he was very happy for Santana but he was also. Almost. Not embarrassed. But he was having a lot of difficulty with having left Santana and Santana. He's as good as he is he does not go deep into games. And last night if he'd given it hit up which by the way did we talk about that later be given a head up. By the sixth or seventh inning I think he's coming out they had a big lead by the seventh. And he would have he would have come out for sure. No doubt about it if there was a hit in fact. He did come out once and I think everybody thought it over Collins who outs after a walk -- he came out once right and everybody thought -- now he's going to be taken out but. He talked amount on the -- went back. I don't know I. A lot of debate on Twitter you know Twitter makes these things more fun yeah missed out on that too yeah but -- -- lot of debate on Twitter should they keep them in should they take him out if it was me. However left the -- once in a lifetime thing the way I'm taking that away. Me too I think it's even different if the Mets and had a no hitter fifteen years ago. I think that could it even a bit benefactor. Would have been in my thinking. You're Collins. -- he called the organization when he was talking about it after the game but. In this particular way organization is different than team. The team is what really the team is his. Responsibility. The organization is too but he's got to. Missive series got the team that he wants to win wet but it's also got the you know that the -- at the men who sign the paychecks in mind to do I want to subject your instinct and it's a more than he's. Basically capable of more or stream. So while I am even within that there are differing differing. Objectives I have a short clip it to them. But he was. You know a little bit. Easy going in that clip at other times. He he was not he was deadly serious. About. He'd better is going to solve this basically quote. He'd better not -- soared five days. Because then that we've got a problem but he he wasn't even his happy for Santana. As you might think he would be mean but at another point in the press coverage was choked up by how. Proud of Santana he was it was very interesting to watch that at least -- caught that. His emotions were fun to watch even during the game and even after -- finish it off. Collins just stood there and it's there he didn't he would run right out or anything else with the rest -- he just stood there with his. With a smile on his face in his arms crossed kind of like hopefully this didn't ruin our whole season because it. -- came out right and they have a better record than the cardinals now sell -- The cardinals you know it's I mean they have the best batting average on base percentage slugging percentage run differential run differential. Cell. Yeah that won't last but I mean that the met part of that won't last no but yes that's right they are it's June and they are contending. It was odd the celebration was little odd it wasn't the mad sprint to the mound by everybody David Wright celebrated to himself and you know it seemed like there was a delay did you see -- of the fan run past -- the the guy in the torrents. Yes -- did it well it's New York to patched. I guess I need to expect a little you expected effort you'd expect an attempt. I guess he wanted to be like the Hank Aaron fans. Runs forever known as the guy who goes to what he's Gerry bell bottomed Jean guy he jumped right in the -- -- celebrating that. League did for a little bit down then for a little -- -- yet about a good 102 count before they tackle them. Well it was. Quite -- -- for the Mets 8020. Games they've now played in their history that's the first -- leaving only the Padres who have not thrown one. And it is for as long as I remember knowing baseball I've known that the Mets and the Padres. And expansion teams have come along and throw no hitters but it was always the Mets and the Padres my whole life it was the Mets and the Padres the two teams that had not thrown. No hitters and now it's down to the Padres the last time -- met pitcher took a no hitter even into the ninth before last that was Tom Seaver. So while and it's just such -- ironic thing that for as many great pitchers they've -- including Santana. And the ballpark they played in for most of their existence and and Citi Field even I mean very pitcher friendly the National League you know eight. Hitters is that of nine all these things they they look like they seemed that they would be a franchise that would have the most no hitters but. You can't predict baseball and all the guys who have pitch for them who went on to pitch no hitters Nolan Ryan went -- pitched seven of them. David called a perfect game even -- Thompson yep Tom Seaver even a dale normal they would. He's got a drop last about Dwight Gooden Dwight Gooden absolutely I mean it. And he was kinda washed up then -- yeah that's right. Well super cool. You'll want Santana. I checked this morning on eBay well what can I tell you about Johan Santana from collectors standpoint. And 2000 -- his rookie card year 2000 finest that card -- pretty well actually a Beckett ten graded. Saint -- rookie not signed or anything from 2000. Sold for 600 dollars recently and that's a huge price for part of that. Vintage but the back at ten to -- ten and raiding beats the PSA time. It's funny. When I first learned about upgrading. It was. It was explained to -- not to -- one person either it was seem to be like common knowledge among people who. Had their cards -- that Beckett was the talk for greater that of Beckett. Nine array any grade. -- more all ranked the same grade from PSA. And soul like my small circle of friends that were collectors. All seemed to just sort of notice and and agree on this. I I went to PSA. Two Summers ago I was in California for ten or eleven days. And on that trip I made one or two stops in -- of being too to PSA and I met with Joseph Orlando Joe's been on the show. Several times although it's been a whilst we've had admonished column. He's the president of PSA. And I didn't I didn't even just blurted operators native. You know a suggestion of that -- but I had a couple of Beckett -- cards that I thought -- cross over. And that he didn't even appreciate he bristled -- He bristled at the notion that Beckett was the talk for greater and it's it's since -- to sort of be in my thinking that every greater thinks they're the toughest. But. Maybe it's different in other circles were -- -- -- hang out it's a given it seems that back it is tougher. And you concede in the prices. A ten PSA ten is a great card. The back at -- does better. Now I always recommend Beckett for new worst off and PSA for vintage because especially in the latter case that is where the action news. You wanna get your cards graded their from the 1960s you go to PSA. SGC is another interesting option that you go to PSA that's really action news. Lot of people that are buying -- cards want them for posterity things like this set registry. It's. Simply because they're trying to buy the best possible -- -- raid there's more to it than that and PSA is that the standard. But tempered the -- off by like the idea Beckett. And if you draft cards that can get chew -- a higher grade collector or -- were so you're in the 95. And territory. The go to Beckett for that that's what I'd recommend. Yards and -- -- 2000 finest. And if you do a search and eBay search this morning on Santana you will see that tickets from last night's game have already sold. There were at least two. All unused tickets from the game that were listed by it now at. One one against this one trying to figure or take a shot and it somebody's got to unused ticket. Might have been more than one from last night's game. And they wanna sell it what do they listed that they did get their price. Ominous day he'd. 550. Two and nineteen I saw 219 and I saw a couple others that sold for 200 that may even have been Stubbs. Now I don't know the difference. I I know. The basic I hope one person went to the game one person didn't but I don't know the the physical -- tangible difference in the cards. You know would you go to most games knowledge of -- them. So does it matter if your card was your your ticket rather was standard. As a matter how did you tell how could you tell. Might be that there's more where on it but doesn't have to be. So while maybe it's just necessary that if you advertising. You know try to sell it that you say whether you're at the game or not but. I don't know like I wasn't sure that. But anyway you do see plenty ticket stubs one selling tonight many are listed by now. And to nineteen somebody put their tickets up to nineteen -- and got that number. And it has occurred to me before to collect. Tickets from no hitters I think that would be. An interesting project. I haven't got it off the ground have always got my own sets that a building in just different things that I'm that I'm you know. Dabbling in but I think it because of the collection tickets from. For no hitters are perfect games. And I -- I've talked about this fairly recently but I remember. Anywhere else say it again one. Such gain that is very very tough is Mike -- perfect game last game of the season for four the angels. In Texas. About. Thirty years ago maybe a 1982 -- three there's just nobody was there last game of the year terrible team. And Odom he threw a perfect game there's that's a tough ticket. Who knows what happened all the unused tickets and there is destroyed. His latest 1983. That would have been done now we would know better write a note note from the Rangers ticket office is destroying tickets from such a game. Knowing you know it's it's funny how much Major League baseball's change mean -- you -- a game like that you would literally see you back then I mean. A couple hundred people there now I mean unless it's somebody really bad you at least get 101000. Why is that. I think I think one reason is the ball parks are such stars. Going to a place like. I haven't banned -- the the ballpark in Arlington. Would be a big part of the draw -- that Pittsburgh is 100% well idea right right. I think the ballpark is a big a big part of it like really. -- in sports it's it's become a lot of these stadiums and in arena -- -- or so. So nice and so -- stating that they become sort of a place to be. In a way that the old stadiums weren't that that's really a apart from the the club or that or the game you know I just think that you know the popularity of every sport has gone on to I mean it's. The connectivity of at all and we we all know what's going on all the time and I think that just ramps up interest dare I say women and children prevents. That the ball parks now they went out and a major League City but that that ball parks are so nice. That wife wants to go in the kids wanna go there's there are things for them to do it's that is the food options are wage is more sophisticated. In the used to be walker Joseph -- eat at at Arlington stadium. Hot dogs and French Fries yeah probably and now. Anything you want now it's nice you know now it really is like in a nice time and you you pay for that. So what guys in that amount of time which is really that long. It's changed so much anyway I've thought about that the ticket collection haven't started that they think. Any kind of -- collection Fermi. Works if you have a blend. Of really tough items a few tough items but that a lot that aren't that tough you want to balance I think. That's that was the sum of the the theory here to -- call behind all of went into Super Bowl MVP many ailments. Mean all that specific idea reflects. This sought this mentality. Some. Guys are pretty easy summer tough you have legends of the game and not. And the mini helmets are cheaper than the full size and seemingly also more available. So well on it's the kind of collection you can add to every once in awhile the the pacing works for that. I got an email yesterday from a listener in Canada who has I've been thinking about starting a an autographed ball collection. 3030 club guys. And like to me that's a cool idea. That's just the same because you could have you'll have hall of famers there and then you'll also have. You must have a name at the tip your tongue like somebody obscure. That that went 3030 I don't know Howard Johnson. 4040. I -- believe that Eric Davis go 3030 yeah yeah. Even less than good -- that but there have been lesser players I would think in Johnson to like Johnson has a big year to -- So that's to be right on mean you could get. Off names. Or. You know unknown names I've got another friend who at least in in theory like he has and actually doing this very much but. His idea was autographed baseballs rookies of the year National League rookies of the year. And you've got big names there than you've got Todd Hollandsworth you know you've got. A mixture and I think that's the most interesting kind of -- collection you could build whatever best. Suits your interest and no hitters it's the same no hitters have the two big names like Santana. An autograph -- ball sixty box. Although maybe Google yet there's so many no hitters though I mean yes you know there's there's a lot of them back at a track down all no no hitters since. -- -- Could do that or hall of famers with no hitters. Well yeah Cy Young. Up in post World War II were some notes on it like that. Yeah well I'd love to know about some collections that. Fitted into this category just futuristic ideas for collections that. Maybe you built or someone you know. Has built the phone number is 8030551. Needed eight by fifty to five it to use the toll free line those that listen on line from a far -- places. 1888550. To 550 got a couple thoughts on unseat culprits are. On how to collect them what's the best card to get whether it's a good idea. And also what is the funny ring card. Some of you know. Talk about the phony -- -- it -- me know more about it. That's coming up this is the hobby I might show on WGR. Johan Santana the first met. No hitter last night at Citi Field -- -- of buys in. Fingerprints on the on the performance Mike Baxter in left field makes a great running catch injures himself. Crashing into the wall in left field in the process -- shoulder. And left the game after that catch but a great running catch there're if you fly balls -- view that looked like. They were going to drop that. It was surprising to me watching them off the bat that they hung up long enough for the outfielders to run in in the there was one in the eighth. Or nine. I think was the advocate as the -- I think it was for call -- -- -- the ball let's -- -- -- and house and the shortstop almost like Korea continue right there was there was that one -- the there was another blew open the left field when he hit it. My immediate thought was all that's dropping and I wonder you know it was there was another part of the drama to that. It was supposed to rain. With the rain coming you wonder if maybe the humidity kind of help the ball stay up for something I mean -- was always the yeah it was windy maybe that helped a little bit but. There were two either in the seventh -- -- Like back to back batters who hit the ball where I thought all that's dropping -- it's over how about the one to end the eighth. That was little hump back liner behind the mound. Yeah and it looked like on TV the shortstop and second baseman Murphy we're gonna run each other role that it lets the other funny thing about. The Mets defense is terrible like they're as a whole like their defense that they don't have it like there are many good fielders at all and then of course. The ball that Beltran hit in the sixth that was fair it was fair I mean that chalk mark. Right it was right there close is his right there well it's. You could call it close he wanted to but. It was obvious. If that there was another -- you didn't hit it needs even super slow mode to see it I mean even in fast motion. You -- see it down the down the line angle that it hit the -- clearly all the umpire needs to do is wait another half second and down. And he sees the market it's fair and that's it that's always got -- -- order in now even well I guess at that point he can't he can't ask anybody else because you can't say. You get a double. Although they -- what's right. Where they ask everybody else don't usually think that all they're doing is saying I missed it. Support me so we -- changes like it's a mechanism for changing the I have seen him change -- yeah they change it the umpire that. Misses the call calls her body and and then it seems inevitably they flip the call I'm thinking that that's usually the umpires -- -- I got this wrong I missed that I don't know. I don't that would last night that that's stated I mean whatever. Who cares right the Mets have never had a no hitter and I love that they got one. Amid I've friends asking me if I ever thought they would get on this delicate Walter I'm thinking about whether they would ever get a no hitter it makes sense that they would have a no hitter. But time. And I'll -- it's a bad call I I don't need replay in sports I like that. Baseball doesn't have much of it I didn't like it when baseball got replay at all. It was to -- it almost the filing the sport when that happened but. This day and age I understand why it exists I understand that people like it I get the I get the point. And there was one last night where you be talking about. There was another missed call that could have eventually led to yell and being taken out because of his pitch call he hit a batter he hit chain Robinson right hand. And they said they didn't and then one pitch later two pitches later he strikes him out. Now maybe if he's on first base things are a little bit different your -- your cardinals fan do you mind being no hit does it bother you when your team it's no it. Null because you know I'd I'd like the cardinals I grew up liking the cardinals mostly because Ozzie Smith now in the late -- stuff with them acquired all that but. I'm not I'm like -- cardinals go cardinals that I would not just fall -- for the moment like that a baseball as much bigger to me than the one team that I. -- -- -- -- I like no hitters but when it's my team when I had a team prepare for -- playing around. I I hated it when Darryl Kyle. Threw his no hitter against the Mets watched that I was so mad but it just was so embarrassed for the Mets were so bad then. Just you know somebody just get a hit. Yeah I guess that the -- to it goes on your permanent record meant the that the thing that well they won the World Series last year I think -- -- right but you know well that's a thing too is that it's Johan Santana. I mean you didn't get giving a perfect game by Philip Humber. That's right I mean it's it's one of the greatest pitchers of the last twenty years I mean he's in the conversation. Operator for these -- got to do it. He was actually the recommended do it against a good rival team at home. As good occasion. Speaking of baseball how much do you know about the Seattle pilots. Reading an article today a lengthy an informative article on sports collectors digest dot com which often as. To good site for the latest news and collecting big sales. Famous collections that are going up for auction is different things sports collectors -- is one of my favorite hobby related sites. There's a long article about the Seattle pilots and memorabilia from that team that played for only one year 1969. I didn't know much about. The story of the Seattle pilots until this morning I knew that they were around for one year it became the brewers and that's it. But a couple of things about them that are adjusting -- -- share with -- first of all as far as memorabilia goes in this I think is logical to think. What their stuff sells very well. Mean teams that Tom. Common goal. Can be very popular with collectors go to the -- store sometime. And see how much Quebec and Hartford stuff they sell like those shirts in the back. Yeah they're different colors like no teams are wearing their colors but the reason that their hip is that they're gone. The -- geeks in the whalers that you see a lot of people walking around with the nordic in the whalers. That nobody was doing that when there were playing. So teams that are defunct our interest thing and hockey has a bunch of them baseball doesn't. But baseball has the Seattle pilots 1969. They were a new team and all this enthusiasm they played in six stadium as I CK a posh BS. Named for the -- years minor league team owners sic was his last name. You know -- So six stadium which according to what I'm reading on Wikipedia was a beautiful but that Jules. Of a stadium several years before the pilots came around but by 1969. It wasn't good. And the team really struggled the stadium was bad obstructed views. All kinds of problems the team was terrible as an expansion team. And ownership was leading money. I mean how about imagine today. An expansion team in any sport. What year and are gone. Then there was apparently a lot of drama no I didn't know any about editing about this wasn't alive during it. By the pilots things look bad for them and apparently. During gained one of the 19169. World Series Mets and Orioles. The orders of the pilots. Then agreed to sell the team to go to whom. Figured out. Bud Selig. Bud Selig bought the pilots. Between. Ten to thirteen. Million dollars it was the price tag. Then but it wasn't finished it wasn't finalized until the next spring. Because of all kinds of red -- Government in Washington State tried to stop the movement. In the kinds of things you might expect. So the pilots team is in spring training in march of 1970. Not knowing. Where they would play. And not until April 1 of 1970. Was it finally made official six days before the opener. But the pilots were bankrupt in would be moved and one thing -- from Wikipedia which is not always perfect but. I think is actually under rated for how accurate it is there was a study about this once the people do such a good job correcting other people Wikipedia that you can trust it. Almost always. I never knew this part either that the reason the the brewers. Had the colors that they had blue and yellow. Is because of the pilots wearing those colors and Selig wanted to change. The colors to. Navy and read. In honor of a minor league Milwaukee Brewers team but because there was no time. To do that was unable to make that change and to this day. The brewers still have a yellow they've changed the -- a few times or at least a couple times but. Their colors are what they are because of the pilots. I've seen at the -- where a store in buffalo pilots hats. Gamers come around Jersey's very rarely. According to this article sports collectors digest. A -- Warren Seattle pilots Jersey player named Dick Bates. Sold at a mile high card company auction for 8495. Dollars. The player Bates pitched in his career a total of one and two thirds innings. During which he gave up five runs. 8500 dollars for his shirt. Don't let them tell you that hobby is dying it isn't you just have to know where to look. Seattle pilots Jersey. 8500 dollars probably helps that the the guy played so rarely that he only pitched maybe that's one game. While all the pitchers numbers like that bro. If right. The team was terrible 1970. Topps baseball has Seattle pilots cards and it in as they sit here today reading about that makes me wanna build a seventy set. Because I've never really cared about thirteen before buck. You can find that's like you said knew where haven't been there in a little while but they had that had in there with that asks. And then there's a line under it just above the rim of the -- And at least have one version of -- have their of these little. They are wings I guess like a pilot -- wings. On him. That -- -- that the remote but had to kind of a cool look and all that retro and for a team that's gone away is you know where it's that in. Sports. Sports team fashion I guess I'll call it. Eagle 30550 haven't taken a call today enjoy just sort of kick him back you're met you talking about the saint and a no hitter. And then the pilots wanna mention culprit towers they said they would tonight game two with a Stanley Cup finals and I've got time for caller too as well again the number 8030550. I'm Mike show this is the hobby on WGR. Terry Collins the met manager one of the more interesting. Post game press conferences I've ever heard from a manager or coach after -- game. Just him talking about how how -- it was Santana but just how conflicted he was. And he just could not have come across I think anymore seriously. -- -- dead when talking about how difficult it was for him to leave Santana and putting the organization on the line. And all of that. I AM one thought ahead with it was I just wish that the game were on a different night Sobel blog and I could. National out just what the manager should have done there I think. If the pitcher wants to pitch. And you recognize the Mets have never had a no hitter which makes it. Makes a difference in this I think. Then he has to stay -- but Collins is responsibility is not to the legacy of the franchise. It -- the president and the future the opposite. So well on me he felt that. Andy -- I mean he talked like. If he's sore in five days to have a problem. He was just worried for that already minutes. I said why that shows the -- games showed Santana is news conference before Collins but Collins is actually came first. Collins actually went person you could hear a few times say so Santana should be up here he was potentially. By. He went right right in there and instead all that. Interesting. We had its -- right you know you got the fans and he got Santana and you got all the players on one side and then the front office had just speed. Out of their minds last night in the hospital -- and that's the thing that he did not come across from columns. It is that that he was certainly. He -- he did to be talked about it as a as a career highlight and things like that but. He did not exude this sense of feeling happy. He was just so distraught by how difficult it was I think I think. Normally wins with a pitcher like you and Santana being hole he is and how long he's pitched you would think. 130 pitches an action to when he pitches that shouldn't do anything but coming off the shoulder surgery -- is as much as it took him to get back you think. Boy you could flush all that down apologist for this. One game in the game was eight and nothing's there is no argument for leaving them in for the competitive aspect of the game has simply been no hitter Santana walked by people. The job it's super interesting stuff and very difficult to exactly characterize Collins motions there -- A good challenge for commentator Horry or writer to do that thank. OK hockey tonight game two of the Stanley Cup finals the gold score of the hero from game one. -- coal tar from Slovenia. I have have -- cope tar as a collector. Going back to when he was a rookie made a good impression on me as a player as a rookie and it was at that time. Four years ago or so that I talked in here on the show a lot about just what goes into. One day someone's cards are worth one they are it's it's not simply how good they are. And and coal -- is a good study and that. Is he is a super player he's not in the small market -- -- -- not either in a hockey hotbed. So he's kind of in between. On this. He certainly good enough to be a star among among collectors but he's really not even after. Scoring an overtime winner in game one of the finals. To give his team on nine an old record by the way on the road in the playoffs. It's one of his best cards the SP authentic. Autographed rookie cards sold for seventy dollars on -- and it's just. Not be anything shy at all hundred. It really doesn't. Make an impression so. I would say corporate tower is abide but I say that a little bit hesitant lead because in the picture. How high he goes and he does have these. The star appeal. It seems but as a player what's not to like pennies on a team that's in great shape for a Stanley Cup. So well armed. I certainly wouldn't I don't audience saying -- that I guess in saying you could buy the cards now. Doesn't seem like the best time to be buying them in the worst in the the best time to be selling them. But the price is just aren't much -- that's the only point the prices to star much for a coal -- who impresses as a player very much. Here's Joseph on a WG RI Joseph. Now I'm like it's.
