Quickly the update Scott Rolen struck out to end the game and the series in Cincinnati. The giants a very. Excruciatingly. Painful loss for the reds three straight at home. Chances all over the place giants six reds for the giants. Are the first team to advance from the division series round. John Clayton where there's John do you enjoy the baseball playoffs like we do. I do but I don't -- -- much because I'm so busy with football but you have to admit that I quadruple double header here a lot of what you call -- fourteen. In back to back days is pretty good. It is about a double quadruple header notes that. -- -- with -- works. Well John nice for us this week to be hearing of about references to the 1950. New York Yankees. We're talking about bills and the build -- yards allowed. First team since that seemed to give up 550. In back to back games about this five weeks of the season were talking about what seemed like an improved. Bills defense on paper as being historically. Bad. -- -- and it's it's probably the disturbing. Nobody expected this type of -- performance coming to the -- of the defense it was going to improve. Not a defense that was going to get worse and now it historically bad and. I think we're all baffled by it but it's got to be resolved very quickly it can't be resolved against Arizona. I don't know what change is gonna happen. -- I I I don't know John I think gum. You know Arizona. Does not seem that potent offensively like if they can't get off the map here. And I would I would think just about anything would be on the table except for them. We don't have any kind of a season with a poison is in claims that they blows. I get some dignity you can't get consult everything overnight but it got to make some baby steps to make some progress because. 621. Yards and into the 300 yard effort one and run and one on the -- and it's ridiculous. I I would say John like you know watching every play as we are doing here. That this -- thing that is most surprising. And and I would wanna give once that some some rope. For this is who expected the foreign force can handle weighted handle the last two games they have been ample. And this is like the equivalent of having four aces out there on the on the defensive line and named it may may be Mark Anderson is not an -- and now he's out. But the least he was paid to be a good part in this equation in the two defensive tackles. About a little bit more puzzling that it could be offensive tackle play it more even puzzling to Mario Williams and at some -- You can take out a -- -- to them the pass rushing defense and then what does some good. Double team blocking but if that happens then it should open things up for the inside indicate to talented guys. You'll -- Williams is -- good and do it more -- target for the guy that should be dominating and right now it's just not happening. Respecting that at the same time Mario Williams has been a complete non event here through these five games it was a big deal in the spring. And really John as we've been saying. He could be any of the more than journeyman tight defense events the bills have trotted out there in recent years so. And I'm sure you recognize that also. The question and -- I don't wanna put the thing on the wrist because I think that would be too much of an excuse some of the -- was an issue it should have been brought up that should have been on the injury report net that's going to be. The reason that Mario Williams you have to -- may be one of the hundred million dollars as opposed to the other 99 million coming and it's just. To me. That was an issue that should have been brought up earlier at least warned everybody that that this was going to be a problem I don't. I don't by the wrist injury as being something that's holding things back. You know he's got to make it happen and guys go in the swamps in that that happens but the bill does all this early in -- five can -- get at least a little portion of the game that was okay. But this is not a hundred million dollar man but everybody expect that. Yeah and and to the point about you know. How are you in theory can sometimes take away that edge -- if you double team homer triple -- But the bills I think trotted that out a couple of weeks into the season. Thinking they can get away with it but fans want to and that's ultimately to film and they're DVR in -- -- -- Like he's not the double team John -- and single block that he's just kind of. But -- -- He's got to find a way to beat daddy got that out to be able to do it but he and he's sure he's got the effort to be able to do it. But he's just got a big limitless but that's -- If he can't have a -- that game against these tackle. What you're talking about two tackles on the Arizona Cardinals -- -- given up sixteen to seventeen sacks this year. I mean if you're talking about a Kevin -- -- sacked seventeen times in the last two games and the picnic at the fact this week then it not happened. One of these -- Nichols is the guy the jets caught right that the jets were so worried about what they've -- the economy and that's who's. And that'll be guided Mario Williams playing for me. Well two sacks would be more than double his season output. To date how about the bills' offense John not as big of a scandal is that as the play of the defense here. But some in the niner game pretty much everything went wrong no redeeming value of that game and all for the bills and that included Ryan Fitzpatrick who bomb. Just sometimes John doesn't look like he's got the NFL arm and that's been. Something that's come up from time to time we see the touchdown passes Fitzpatrick has a very appealing personality people wanna get behind them the stories good. But there are times even against Smith who is nine Brady. Where you he just looks frankly second rate. Didn't well on the -- Everybody knew going yeah. That he didn't have the strongest arm and at least seeing daily tailor the offense to -- his strength which should be just making decisions and that of course. We've got to make better decisions and an interception numbers are just absolutely ridiculous. But it was not as if there's. The the great fast receivers that go downfield but he could be firing the ball to all autonomy has it's an offense is really kind of constructed inside out. Where you've got. -- good solid receivers but that nothing it's going to be deputy content is good is not the at this kinda world so. Yeah I think -- -- to do -- for his potential success that he has thrown a lot of yards he has thrown a lot of touchdown passes. But you're right I mean he's never going to win the throwing derby you'd ever going to -- the podcast and kick what are. -- Gather a bit of a -- to guys like each one of these games there have been opportunities. To hit guys. Opened on the side on the New England game there was a TJ Graham opportunity that where he was 34 slides in the clear. And the ball is grossly -- zone and ends up being an interception early in that game. And last week there were opportunities like that. They're fair it's just dumb you know can he. Get hot you know like what really the story of his time here in buffalo has been -- been a lot of games that looked like the games have looked lately. And mixed in there were enough games where it was like -- well this volleys he's hot today. And I guess from relieve myself the thing is like if -- really you almost won at some point. You need to -- -- and they need -- but the concern too and I think this goes league wide and that obviously is going to affect the thinking of Ryan Fitzpatrick. This defense is indeed going to be giving up -- many yards and as many points. Then you -- quarterback like him is going to and they didn't patent it -- be the same play him in Drew Brees is the same place. And I you're forced to make more out -- try -- you more pointed out more interceptions against us that the excuse I think. For week one week to. But when you start to get displayed in the -- in any sector realizable I've got gotta get 48 points of thirty point if we're gonna have a chance. Then you can patrol board outlook is now you realize it's like I can get a touchdown. But then the military is gonna come back and get a touchdown despite the field goal then I'm down four point community is gonna get a stop. Where you John on the the importance of the quarterback position as as the sport evolves. Ever everybody's noticed how rule changes in just. Different formations. Things go further and further -- offense. Which would you know have you think probably that the quarterback is that much more important do you see it. Differently or do you see it continuing that way -- Totally continuing that way and only getting more impact I think though the latest evolution you can see is the fact that no other was becoming more predominant. And it's going to be -- what this year we have 14% of the snaps. Are no huddle compared to about 11% last year at about 8%. Back. Two years ago. And more and more electric ample use that Andrew Luck joined an auto club last week yet nine notable steps the first three games. And yet 80% of the snaps out of no huddle. And you can see the rationale behind that you have a good quarterback. And you can get teams out of there at 340% of which is thirteen of them is important NA based packet to be spread the field -- to sub packet. Now you limit there's substitution that you tire them out with no huddle and the better the quarterback the better than no huddle and that's why would -- seat. Is still the Flacco is still Flacco doing little hollow club -- he's been no huddle what is it different varieties this year with Tom Brady. He's in the no huddle but instead of running the Texas Tech offense he's running the Oregon offense. We just -- -- a little bit more running it so that's the evolution and that's why the quarterback position is so vital. Because now Billy you're going to be going into more -- read -- type football league game you gotta have that gagged either control and make a decision than one that no huddle. In five years I would predict. Its 50% no model. I mean I think that's that's the direction we're going in and that would be. You know a drastic escalation of the numbers you're presenting but more more good quarterbacks what's the argument against it what's the argument against -- allotments. You know being information. Being in good enough shape whatever you need to it have forced the defense in the those kind of predicament side I don't know and even know what it is. On the -- to. It would become the byproduct of what you get out of college and you know he noticed it's rare anymore that you find too many fullbacks -- in full backs have been phased out of college. So now to get a full -- after it either take some deep sense of player or some other position player and turn him into a -- back with some transition and you can see that. The other. The big receivers are now not blocking tight end they're to big receivers to go on the routes and you've got quarterback -- -- shotgun and quarterback but now. Are delaying the pistol you see all these things now starting to slowly come in the politically logical thing to do is if it's all going to be generated around the quarterback and what what he does put that. -- take it no huddle and -- I agree that a little -- they get the 50%. But I can guarantee it's gonna keep ratcheting up each year. Because it is it is a good group of young quarterbacks coming true and once they get to hang and the competence to want no huddle it's going to be that way. Especially if the offense if the idea of the spread them out I mean that started as high school offense became. Very prevalent in college and you're seeing it more and more in the pros. You've got a generation of players and there's only more coming quarterbacks and offensive tackles for what it's worth that have grown up playing in the game. At this kind of pace when Obama logo and if that's it more more teams are doing that it only makes sense that Google and -- bullet that that's your advantage now. Yeah I think when you know what I'm curious to see how this evolution in the New England going to go because they're taking the Oregon running portions of it. And really it's more the temple. Comedy to the the other getting 85 plays and some gains right now in the normal game. Just because they're running such a template -- but no huddle offense. And it you know it takes to hold the pressure of -- Tom Brady from the standpoint not standing back here consistently. It has spread that getting hit like he had and some ports in the last couple years so I mean it is. It's a great time to kind of watch this strategic parts of the game -- I'd really like defense. Yes I agree John Clayton with us -- going this weekend. Odd thing here I'm actually gonna watch a little bit of the organs -- New England offense the patriots coming to Seattle and what I think. An interesting game that the number one offense going against the number one defense. And then just seeing it. There's a way to try to slow down Tom Brady. Let's talk about the NFC west for a minute we know the niners are good the bills have. Finished with them thank goodness for their sake how how about the other three teams party rank them. All right now I don't even know Arizona as the second best record I don't think Seattle the better team. We expect to see how that love and sort out particularly to us through the injuries that happen this year running back. Arizona and also to the fact that their tackles -- terrible. -- good defense in Arizona they can keep them in games. That's true -- Orton and a very nice job that they've got great players and it but on offense and Kevin Cobb it is really more looking more like a backup to starter. They lose Brian Williams they lose Beanie Wells their vote on injured reserve list. And what we see that trend this year to -- that you cannot run the ball and it is affecting Aaron Rodgers Matthew Stafford. Drew -- to a certain this extent that he's -- -- in the -- so have been taken away debate. Plays in your yards per -- go down dramatically. All right so that they Arizona's fighting to the third best team. Seattle I believe that wanted to get a little bit more productivity out of the quarterback Russell Wilson. They got a defense despite falling amid the man to man it's good pressure -- big sacks it's big plays they've got probably the best secondary in football. If they can get and then of course Marshawn Lynch has been fantastic -- -- the second best team and then Saint Louis is the fourth that he would even though that the three and two record but there you know their. People have -- well because they've got a great quarterback in Sam Bradford they have eighty very talented. Group of young quarterbacks that are coming through and get -- fantastic. -- five games into the season is that division is it. Over now as far as thinking of them as being -- -- wound -- -- -- -- -- my schedule well went into a separate playoff tickets. We are now back and it's it's totally changed because. There's theme to this whole division it's actually different then the trends in the -- because it's all about defense. You got three top defense -- type coaches and of course you got Jim Harbaugh. That's almost a deep sense of mentality it's all power running type of football. It's always try that -- make any big game quarterback I've football maybe with one exception Sam Bradford don't let him do a little bit more. But it's it's you know they've they've done a good job it started to get some talent out here so it's no longer the aptly. I mean that's a record of non division game right now is coming from -- -- what I believe they're eleven and three. And they have not lost at home yet. 59 -- of -- -- first woman president. When you think about it any what for years. You would never happy about it that you need more than seventeen or eighteen witnessed the agent. Now they're already at eleventh and they're you know they're gonna pick up some more went as time goes on. Great. I'm not necessarily get I don't know but I -- I think yeah. Maybe not necessarily but it certainly is possible. All right Alex -- you wrote about him tell us what you knew him. Well obviously I'm really didn't know him personally but you know the personal part I was able to watch TV of him and you know he came of the -- That. You know football -- still in somewhat of the formidable -- still was getting its brand and I've watched him you know one does Detroit lying game to be on Thanksgiving and of course they're expecting a one Johnny Carson and laughing because he was so funny. And he would actually believe he would it could be the bill OK since or you could see quarterback and if they'd come on they have personalities into those big guys those big guys have planned a line that. Still don't seem that their helmets off on the you don't really get the personalized with them on a year and a court. You watched if you watched -- funny you look at the stories he was told what how. Happening gains and and all that was hysterical at -- about anything that he would say it was funny that a quick to carry that over the movies he's carried it over to. The network sit coms and all that and he was just a funny guy and I think that he helps sell this game I think he's not allowed. People who like myself when -- on going through high school in junior high and all that stuff. The like get up by more -- but the guy I like him a lot and he -- he was a great player. -- on the greatest teams he was a great player but the personality that he brought. Really helped the brand of football he'll help make him the only superstar -- outside of football and football it's just great to watch a flight domesticated seven except. We have you know against the if things in common your love football your movie careers. So it seems like there is a bond there. And I -- I don't know if you did the commercial -- hit but maybe he would have. And speaking of television as you also just work. Greg made a very controversial comment about a half an hour ago claiming that Mama's Family. Was the worst television show of all time. John and this day and age of reality TV and all the bad TV. Do you believe that and what is your opinion the worst TVs however. I think. He you know was -- TO -- -- the the reality show that was brutal. I'm the only thing that you slap it like it did you would become an appeal would do it -- they will actually help -- he has been an eloquent -- think there was redeeming about that. I know what was it that the Chevy Chase -- -- when he tried that was bad and then the minute the syndicate is but he's such a great guy they Ellen Magic Johnson try to stock shelves but I was just ballot. Horrible but. Really cute take a look at some of the things that are on cable right now. Not cable sports but just cable it supplement -- a lot of bad stuff for me -- like you know depending if you have a cable dealer -- -- -- satellite you go through these can't ultimate public that are the watch some of the station is -- commercials. It's almost like they -- -- you know I think trying to make it bad so people will watch the other going for the the lowest common denominator is they say he said she too I think that's pretty miserable and. Well he does it. It's funny that there are some children succeed like that. It's like ours right about that yeah. -- -- All right John nice talk when you. Thought you next week John Clayton Thursday's at five. You pick Obama's family and some. Of those shows he rattled off -- -- -- we didn't even that you had no idea. No reason at all to think we'd ask him to dumb thing. He's got a list. Shows famously bad shows the TO show he was curiously mum on him he'd know it was yours -- I think he knows I think there. I think that was almost like an insider thing he couldn't -- what he knows. About. Not lucky I was staunchly against amount of damage or -- Chrysler I don't know where they'll keep Vietnam a fairly -- ESPN is you know the mom's name behind amused at all yeah ideal model he knows too much seeking incidents that goes to church with -- -- so right now that the guys. Curiously mum and adjusting horse named someday when Obama horse curiously mum on not 45 B nine to -- to measure the let me do that. I want a horse name with a budget numbers that the announcer restive. 352678. At work that out at the -- -- Maybe in talking or so all horse Biden well it depends I'll do the slots at. -- I will Bulldog when a horse of the sled they bring it to you I don't know. Well.
